I have always held Sushi Joy as my favorite Sushi restaurant in Boise, but I just order Chinese delivery and couldn’t believe how good it was! The portions were generous and the food was hot! I ordered general’s chicken and my wife ordered broccoli beef. The tempura was still crunchy on my chicken, something I never expect for delivery. It was a perfect mixture of spicy and sweet! The vegetables in my wife’s broccoli beef we’re very fresh and had a wonderful crunch to them! The beef and sauce were perfect. We will never order Chinese food from anyone else again!

We’ve been coming here for about two years, perhaps a dozen visits in all. Tonight there was a small problem. It didn’t bother me or ruin my meal but it might have for some customers. After the meal I pointed it out to the sweet waitress and said, «I just wanted you guys to know.» She thanked me and left the table. When she returned a few moments later, she said, «Thank you for showing us,» and brought a beautiful Japanese ice cream treat dessert for us. I felt completely satisfied, appreciated that they’d listened to me, and had not added unnecessary energies to the interaction. I bumped the tip up to 20% as a way of showing(rather than simply saying) that things were good between us. However, en route to the door, the owner stopped me, saying quietly, «There was a problem?» with a question in her voice. I explained what had occurred and she showed immediate regret. I said, «Truly, not a problem.» She said, «Next time you come in, I’ll fix you something special.» My dinner guest said, «You already gave us ice cream.» The owner shook her head with an almost imperceptible finality, and said simply, «Not enough.» She touched my arm while adding, «Thank you,» with a heartfelt smile. The highest level of customer satisfaction is not attainable without encountering a problem and seeing what happens next. If you go anywhere long enough, something unfortunate will come up. I liked Sushi Joy very well before tonight. I like them even better now, thanks to how they handled a surprise. I almost mentioned that I was in the restaurant business for 27 years, but saved it for another time. I am greatly appreciative of how Sushi Joy ‘erased the memory’ of the initial bump, replacing it with something of lasting value.

I really like Sushi Joy’s lunch offerings. The bento boxes are outstanding. I especially like the tonkatsu(breaded pork) and shrimp versions. They come with soup, rice, vegetable tempura and shu mai and gyoza dim sum, along with three pieces of California roll sushi. The hot and sour soup is very good. One of the best I’ve had. The dinner Mongolian beef was ok, but it was unusually sweet and not very spicy. The pork friend rice is good. Service is friendly. On the most recent night I was there, there were two large groups of at least 10 people each. The rest of the restaurant was also busy. But service was still quick and the staff is always friendly. The one downside, I think, is the menu is too large. It could take a week to read the entire menu. That’s intimidating for people.

I have been going to sushi Joy now for over 4 years! The service is absolutely impeccable and the food is amazing! I’ve been to several sushi places in Boise and this by far is my favorite! Anyone who is looking for great sushi needs to go to sushi joy!

Best sushi in town, plus Chinese food for the non-raw-fish folk in your party, and the sweetest staff around. We go as often as we can!

Came here a couple months ago and it was the most pitiful excuse for sushi I’ve ever had the displeasure of eating! I would much rather pick up sushi at Albertsons, at least it would taste fresh. The food came quick but the rolls were old, the rice was dry and the seaweed inside was too chewy to eat. When we got fresh ones they just fall apart and still tasted awful. I am never going back! The service was mediocre too. Steer clear.

Well I was hopefully after reading the mixed reviews but it was bad food. The service was great, prompt, and friendly. However the sushi was horrible. My boyfriend and I couldn’t even finish our rolls. They smelled bad they tasted horrible. The experience was not whatever hoped for on our anniversary. My boyfriend says«this places needs to go away». He was sick from the 5 pieces he ate. Simply if the sushi makes you sick don’t give good reviews and don’t go back EVER!

Wow. The staff is amazingly friendly and always remembers me and my family when we come in. The food is great! The Chinese menu all tastes so fresh and you know it’s prepared by hand for each order. The sushi is good, too, but I can’t get away from the General Tso’s Chicken. Seriously. It’s the best I’ve had, and I order it wherever I go so I’ve had a lot. There is never a wait and you can order online for takeout and delivery(although I always eat in because I love the waitresses so much – one in particular, whose name I forget). Try it out! You are unlikely to regret it.

Great friendly service ALWAYS, and great food. We love the general chicken and the Christmas roll. We also love that they deliver to our neighborhood!

We’ve been here twice now and it has just been wonderful. The portions are massive though so plan on sharing if you’re ordering off the entrée list. By far the best Generals Chicken I’ve had in Boise. I have not had sushi here yet. Soon though.

Ok got to admit that we were a little scared to get sushi in Boise. However… got to hand it to them they did a great job. We started with pot stickers and crab rangoons… but got into the sushi soon after. Tried several different rolls and we’re very pleased. The Ninja Sandwich is so damn awesome. Looks like a sandwich on white bread… but…it’s not :-) If your in Boise give this place a shot. Has Chinese and Japanese dishes. Something for everyone. Service was friendly and attentive.

This is the best sushi in Boise, hands down. I am from Portland, where there is plenty of good sushi, and we searched high and low for anything that was good in Boise, and this was the best. The fish is fresh, the rolls are delicious, and the flavors are really good. We have also tried their chinese food, and it is also very delicious. Everything tastes fresh and cooked to order. This place is family owned, and it shows. They greet you by name, if you have been in before, and the waitstaff is very nice and attentive. I have never had a bad experience with any waitstaff. I would reccomend Sushi Joy to anyone wanting great sushi or chinese, and they deliver!

uuhm — can u say bland? Take out was a struggle on the telephone. Only to find a credit card could only be used in person, so the youngsters we sent had to foot the bill. Ordered six dishes and they all tasted the same. How does that happen?

My wife and I have been trying to find just a «good» Chinese food place for many years after being spoiled in Twin Falls years ago at George K’s(visions of his delicious Cantonese Chicken dancing in my head). Anyhow the place looks just like what you’d think an old Denny’s would look like converted to a Chinese/Sushi palace. That building has GOT to have a complex after all the years after Denny’s gave up on the location. Place was even a «CAVE» at one point dinosaurs included. Wonder how many different cafes/restaurants have tried and failed there over the years. Jinxed? One thing they don’t hold back on is selection. Must be well over a hundred items, soup to nuts. I ordered the Mu Goo Guy Pan my wife the Mandarin Chicken. Pretty safe bet, aye? Well, it was safe, VERY safe. Think I came up with a phrase that nails it and that is: Chinese/Japanese«HOSPITALFOOD». Both dishes were SO bland and lack of flavor I thought maybe we had arrived hours too early way before the stuff was done being cooked! My MooBoo tasted like it was just flour, water and a bit of salt with veggies, some chicken that was prepared in a seperate pot so as to not invade the flavor of the water and flour. My wife’s Mandarin had no orange zip and maybe two chunks of pineapple to try to make it somewhat«Mandarinnee» and about the same recipe for the sauce. Tried the house Soy sauce and must guess that it is 99.9999999999 percent salt with a little room left for some water. No brewed soy sauce flavor at all. Sigh… After just a few bites we ended up asking for«doggies bag» so as to take them home in the hopes we could either«Doctor» them up or give them to yes… the doggies(sorry guys). I’m honest about what I receive and let the purveyors know about it which embarrasses my wife no end but when you lay down good bucks for what amounts to about ¼ of a normal weeks grocery bill I want/demand my monies worth and I let the manager know about it. We received many promises from her on how it would be much better at our«next» visit. Oh yah. we can hardly wait… NOT I hate writing these negative reviews but as I have said in the past… We only expect at LEAST as good as what we can make at home and we are definitely NOT Wolfgang’s or anything close.

Super disappointed with this place time and time again. Honestly I’m not sure where they get their fish but every single time I come here the fish tastes like I just opened a can of sardines and munched down. A couple of my friends stand by this place but it’s just so unimpressive in every way from décor, service and quality of fish. I would recommend if you want good fish try Superb, Fujiyama or even Happy Fish.

Wow, you guys all leaving good reviews clearly do not travel or understand what sushi is. This was one of the WORST places I have EVER eaten sushi at in my life! The restaurant was disgusting, the farmed mystery fish was warm and chewy, and the service was straight rude. Two different servers tried to pressure me into ordering more food. A vendor came in and sat at the bar 2 seats down and was trying to pressure the cook into ordering x amount of cases of chicken and beef«under cost» loudly. Take it from someone who has eaten sushi all over the world and prides himself on being an expert on fish — this place is a total disaster. Bad quality, high prices, filthy atmosphere, rude servers and the place reeked like trash as well. Avoid this place, and the people who left 4 – 5 star reviews are crazy! This place needs to be demolished.

Usually when a restaurant serves both Chinese & Japanese food neither are good. Sushi Joy is the rare exception. The rolls are delicious, fresh, creative and reasonable priced. The family style Chinese dishes are bright and flavorful with generous portions. Not the over fried greasy mess that some local Chinese restaurants serve. The staff is super friendly.

I LOVE Sushi, I mean LOVE it, and I am a snob when it comes to good sushi. I loved this place! The food was fresh, healthy, delicious and awesomely priced. Did I mention the Deliver? Best part of my night knowing I didn’t have to leave to go pick it up. About the food specifically — the chef keeps the rice and sauce to a minimum, just delicious clean sushi. Prices are very fair and portions are wonderful. I was told about this place but skeptical at first. That was a huge mistake, Def worth checking out!
