Rather than write something new, I’ll copy here the letter that I just wrote to the studio. Put simply, this was the WORST yoga class I’ve ever taken. Given the option, I“d give this ZERO stars. I’ve just returned to my mother’s house after leaving one of your yoga classes early and I felt compelled to write to offer some feedback. Though I had planned to leave the class a bit early(it was the 9:30am to 11:15am class on 8⁄18), I left a full 40 minutes earlier than I had to. The reason for my departure is that I felt the style in which the class was taught bordered on dangerous. In all my years doing yoga at studios all around the country, I have only once before encountered a teacher who not only did not ask before doing a hands-on adjustment, but who also forced the students into positions –whether or not it was appropriate to do so. Ironically the only other time I had this type of unprofessional experience was in this very studio but under its previous owners. Though a first-time visitor to the class, I was used for one of the demonstrations and in spite of my being very clear that I had a physical limitation, the teacher pushed my body into a pose, and I can tell you that even though I’ve only been home 40 minutes, I can already feel that damage was done. The good news is that I’m not a litigious sort. The bad news is that I am one who definitely speaks out when I have a bad experience. I would encourage your instructors to be more mindful of student communications and be more respectful of people’s personal space. I shall not be returning to your studio and will certainly advise anyone I know in the area to do the same. Regards, Cathy I’m amending this review as of June 2008 because I just realized that I never updated after getting a totally unacceptable response from this horrid yoga studio. Not only did they not take any accountability for the lousy experience I had, they claimed it was my fault and that perhaps I should rethink yoga. Nice. I hope their karmic experience is a good one from that.
