Love this place! Each time I come to Bluffton I stop by. The tenderloin is fantastic, but if you’ve overdone it on pork for the week, they also have great salads. Today I got the California salad and it was excellent. The soups are good, with the best being the broccoli cheddar soup. Owners are really sweet and are constantly concerned with the diners and their experience.

This little place is just great. Best salads in town. Great owners. Great chefs. Just everything you could want in a small town restaurant. I eat here 3 – 4 times a week. If you ever have any problems, Sue will get everything straightened out. They also have a Thanksgiving buffet and that’s fantastic, too. 5 stars, easily. Plus, the prices are fair.

I have been to Bluffton for family events many times over the past thirty years, and I have become inured to disappointment when eating outside the home. Imagine my surprise when, having gathered with the family to celebrate my father-in-law’s life, I had a fine meal at Sassafras a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant is usually closed on Sundays, but it opened specially for our family’s post-funeral dinner. The dining area is a large room with a lovely tin ceiling, reminding my of my beloved DiRobertis in New York(but in much better condition). The meal began with a salad of greens with wedges of mandarin orange; the main attraction was a pork tenderloin that had been roasted with a maple-bourbon glaze over a bed of vegetables; the tenderloin was sliced and served over a bed of the roasted vegetables. We also had whipped potatoes — not my favorite way to eat potatoes, I confess, but this was very well done for what it is. Service was pleasant — attentive but not cloying. It will be interesting to find out, on a future visit to Bluffton, how this restaurant is on one of its normal opening days.

Sassafras on Main is a fantastic restaurant and Susan and Chuck were VERY gracious hosts and cooks for our family’s special occasion. The glazed pork was amazing as were the garlic mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon, salad and homemade bread. We could not have asked for better service and attention. Thank-you SO much for everything!

My wife and I have been to Sassafras about once a week for the last month. The stately house it’s located in has class and lends the restaurant a unique atmosphere. I’ve tried one of their specials, beef brisket. Cooked in a rich brown sauce possibly with wine in it, besides being a great dish, the serving was ample and the garlic smashed potatoes a great side. I like that the prices are fair. The last time I went I got a hamburger that the waitress suggested and not ‘officially’ on the menu. It had pepper jack cheese and onion straws on a pretzel bun, homemade BBQ sauce on the side and jerk fries. The fries had a sweet, spicy seasoning that I really liked. I asked for the burger medium and it tasted great. Awesome combo. We’ve also had the banana cream pie(yum!) and bread pudding(yum too!). Wait staff is attentive and friendly, offers helpful dinner advice. Why there aren’t more people eating here is baffling. To me Sassafras easily bests the other sit-down restaurants in town. Try it and see for yourself!

I hate to rag on one-off restsurants, but every restaurant has the responsibility to serve good to excellent food. Sassafras falls woefully short of even decent food. Well, for their Sunday buffet anyways. Got here early, because I have come later in another visit, and all the food had been picked over, so no excuses this time. Meat was dry. Uneatable really. How can pork tenderloin be turned into shoe leather? Ask their cook. Beef, same way, while swimming in aujus. All the rest of the food was poorly cooked, and not very good. I wish I could write a good review. Wanted to. Nice people here. At least if you try this place out, the cost is acceptable.

Not impressed. Ordered salad and a fish sandwich. When the salad was delivered, the lettuce was so brown, I immediately asked for it to be taken away. Frustrating that the server would deliver a salad that looked like that. After that, the rest of the lunch was questionable. On the bright side, the owner was very pleasant and attempted to correct the salad/experience.

Very good food at a fair price with generous portions. Smokehouse chicken is awesome. If you can get past the antique styling of this historic building I’m sure you will come back

One of the best Italian roast beef panini sandwiches I’ve had. It was a special offered for lunch and they had a banquet room full, but the service was still good. Can’t wait to get something else off the menu when I’m in the area.
