Toccoa Riverside Restaurant

We had such a beautiful view for dinner here! We sat on the porch that looked over the river. The lighting was nice — a very great ambiance.
It was a Thursday night at 6:30 and there was no wait time — to be seated at least. The real wait occurred while waiting for our food. After an hour and 10 minutes, we FINALLY received our shrimp, steak and 2 dinner salads.
After such a wait I had expected the food to be amazing, but it was very mediocre. This is a place where you go for the atmosphere.

Our party of six arrived on a rainy Saturday before 6 pm for dinner. It did not take long for us to be escorted to our riverside table on the porch. The beautiful ambience was met with a server who was very cordial and effective. The menu was sufficient with traditional favorites like the fresh trout and other seafood choices including shrimp, catfish, and salmon. Additionally the menu included chicken and chops, but missing was the extensive salad bar that this restaurant offered before the fire several years ago. Three of us ordered the shrimp and grits, and three of us ordered the horseradish crusted salmon. The descriptions of these items sounded delicious; however, the execution was less than our expectation. The shrimp and grits was very spicy, while the salmon was not spicy at all. In fact, the crusting on the salmon lacked any distinctive flavor. The salmon portion might have been satisfactory if the sides had been a sufficient portion. I had a side Caesar salad and the turnips with roots. The portion of turnips was small and might have been filling had the pot licker been less or if it had come with a piece of cornbread to add to the greens/​pot licker.
The presentation on the plate was disappointing too. The large, white, square plate dwarfed the portion of salmon and the small square dish of turnips. Add a piece of garnish, a lettuce leaf with a small side of tartar or horseradish sauce on it would not only add a welcome condiment to the flavorless salmon but also it could add color and fill the void in the blank space of the plate.
All in all the company, the ambience, the service was good; the food was far less than expected and not the value for the drive.
