A great library for a great community! I LOVE the Blaine Library. Want a quiet corner for a chat with a friend? It’s there for you. Plus — a large bank of free public-usage computers with generous time allotments; an area with very comfy chairs for browsing periodicals; a separate room with children’s books and activities; a special area for teens; a rack of free-exchange magazines; a well-organized book sale run by the Friends of the Library where you can find inexpensive, lightly used books to buy; and bonus: pleasant and helpful librarians. In addition, the Blaine Library has a free public-meeting room available; presents many programs on a range of topics; offers job counseling and after-school homework help. What’s not to like? Because the Blaine Library is used by so many patrons in the community, and guests from other areas including Canada, they certainly could use a larger building; but for the time being, the library as it stands is a valuable and valued part of this community.

This place is more of a community center than a library. Don’t come here for browsing books, reading, etc. Bring your crying baby or out-of-control kid, and you will fit right in. When did Whatcom Co stop using the word«shhh»?
