University Laundromat

5 stars! I had gotten so behind on my family’s laundry. It was time for the nuclear option– either give away all worldly possessions or find a decent laundromat to wash everything at once. In the battle of David v Goliath of laundry I chose smartly. This place was awesome! I pulled up in my soccer mom SUV with the trunk and back row inhabited with enough baseball pants, blankets, and kid clothes to accommodate my kids little league baseball team for a week. Meagan graciously offered to help me get everything unloaded, and pointed me to the jumbo washing machines which can hold about 7 loads at a time! I was in business, and my other concerns were proven to be unwarranted. The high speed free wifi, and vending machine delighted my 3 and 7 year old, and when they began to become antsy Megan drew pictures for them on the big dry erase board. (This girl seriously deserves a raise.) Needless to say, if I ever need to play catch up with laundry again– this place will be my go-​too!

This place is awesome! I live on campus at UAB but the washing machines in my dorm are too small to wash my comforter and sheets. This place offers plenty of washing machines that will easily fit my comforter! The large machines (which will fit 4 loads) are $ 5.50 per cycle, and the small/​medium machines (2 – 3 loads) are $ 3.25. The dryers are $ 1.25. They have free wifi and offer other services such as dry cleaning. Great place and friendly staff!

I use this place primarily for dry cleaning. They are prompt and professional. Once, my suit was not ready for me when I came after two days because some items had been left where the washing was done. The attendant called the place until he got a hold of them and ensured my suit was delivered before I needed to leave town for an interview.
Great experience, I highly recommend.

I would not recommend for dry cleaning due to the high prices. Other than that great customer service, right next to campus/​hospitals, and overall a decent and clean place.

Very helpful! I had been to one earlier today and was turned away for what I wanted to wash (just a dog bed, not gross just needed to be washed). The people here helped me pick the right size washer. So nice! Great experience!

Lies. Signs and ads say open until 10 pm but they turned me away at 8:50pm even thought I only had a few items to wash. They were polite but that is false advertising.
Anyway I’ll only come here in the future if it is an emergency

Great place to do laundry. I haven’t been to a laundromat in years but what more could you ask for. Wi-​fi, electric, places to hang out. Friendly and helpful owners. Plenty of really nice machines.

I’m not usually so inspired by a laundromat experience that I feel compelled to write a review, but this place is special. The first thing I noticed was the cleanliness of the place; you can tell when a business is well run and cared for. The choice of machines also impressed me… there are the usual double load front loaders here, but also triple and quad load machines, with an impressive wall of dryers along the back wall. I like that the dryers have a two minute cool down at the end of the cycle, so your clothes don’t come out feeling as if they’ll burst into flames at any moment. You can also add time in 5 minute increments to the dryers once you’ve started the half hour cycle, so you get the exact amount of drying time you need for your load. And, last but not least, there’s the friendliness and helpfulness of the owner and staff here. When’s the last time you had a laundromat owner assist you to your vehicle with your clean clothes? That was my experience today. A good location near campus rounds out the list of positives for this place. Well done!

This place is very clean. The staff is helpful and the machines are reliable. Plus it’s right by my apartment. Very convenient!

I am really impressed with this laundromat/​dry cleaners. Dan, the owner, came out to my car to help me unload my laundry. Since this was my first time here, Dan kindly gave me a brief orientation on the use of the machines and to the establishment. They offer wash and fold service, free wifi and they accept credit cards. The establishment is clean and spacious. The customer service is exemplary. Dan knows his regulars by name and goes out of his way to help his customers and to make them feel welcome. I would highly recommend this place for all of your laundry needs.

i don’t like to wash my clothes at a laundromat, they are hot and take forever haha… so because of this laziness within, they have an awesome drop of service. It’s like a $ 1.00 to $ 1.50 per pound. So I typically bring in a bag (minus underwear and bras because man… that’s just too weird someone touching my underroos) of clothes (sometimes really late in the day because I am a procrastinator…) they always take them, wash and text me when it’s done. AWESOMENESS.
the only bad thing is, they fold a heck of lot better than i do, so when i take my clothes home, i feel like i failed the other clothes in my closet. I wish they could come to my house and for that, I hate them ;-)

University Laundromat is the best and so is Dan! He’s the owner and has the best customer service. It’s the nicest laundromat I’ve been to, really clean and great washers and dryers. They do wash and fold too for $ 1 per lb plus some ppl tip cuz of how great they are. Awesome place, come see for yourself. They have wifi, snacks, drinks, clean bathrooms.

This is a great place. We recently moved to Birmingham and have been searching for a good laundromat. This place is meticulously looked after, very safe and the attendant/​owner was very helpful and polite. After some negative experiences elsewhere in town, this University laundromat was head and shoulders above anything else we’ve seen. Will be going there regularly.

This is by far the best laundromat in Birmingham. It is sparkling clean with all brand new, efficient washing machines and dryers of varying sizes. The owner is one of the kindest and most helpful men I’ve ever met, and he’s been there every time I’ve gone, ready and waiting to assist. He opened the door for me, offered to help me carry my laundry baskets out of my car, and gave me a cute (and very useful) little zip-​up coin pouch for free.
The dryers dry your clothes in half the time other laundromats’ dryers do (not sure how, magic, maybe?). Because I was running late one day from coming back home after putting my clothes in the washer, the owner went ahead and started my clothes in the dryer for me with his own money (!) (knowing beforehand that they were all dryer friendly, of course) and was very casual about me paying him back the $ 4.25 it cost to dry SEVEN giant loads. Meaning, tis cheap to dry one’s clothes there!
The owner will offer to help you fold your clothes, which is extremely nice, especially when your significant other won’t (or is incapable of) doing the same. The owner also offers dollar coins to keep your pockets less full of quarters. Also, it’s not steaming hot in there, which is the case with many other laundromats around B-​ham. And there’s a TV! AND free wireless internet. Y’all, this place rules.
If that’s all not enough to sell you on the place, he will take your dry-​cleaning, have it cleaned for you, and have it back at the laundromat within an extremely reasonable amount of time (round about 3 days? but most recently I got 2 dresses back the day after I gave them to him!). And the dry-​cleaning isn’t expensive AT ALL, compared to what I’m used to, at least.
If you live in the Glenn Iris area, it would be insane to go to any other laundromat. And if you live anywhere else in Southside, or anywhere in Birmingham, really, you should absolutely check this place out. You will never want to go to another laundromat again. Ever.
CHECK IT OUT Y’ALL, FOR REAL. Sorry this is a long review, but I just think this place is the best, especially after experiencing other laundromats!
