Best Breakfast place in Birmingham! Delicious food and great service. Plus super clean and modern. Awesome place to eat!

Please let me just get this out there – Oatmeal pancakes are THEBEST! The selection of breakfast meats is VG. Other than breakfast menu also VG. Complimentary coffee with the fixins while you wait is a nice touch. The wait is at times insurmountable — but if you can get in between crowds or during an ebb — you are always a winner in the dining category. Sometimes service is a bit overextended, but overall one of our favorite«go to» breakfast spots!

First time here. Hubby had steak and eggs with grits. I had the trio pancake sampler that came with French toast, one oatmeal pancake, and one buttermilk pancake, eggs, and meat. Hubby’s steak was overlooked, but grits were really good. My French toast was awful, and my eggs were over cooked. Good took forever to get to table. We won’t be back.

Over Rated is more like it. I had high expectations for this place, now I’m scratching my head trying to figure out why its so damn busy? I’ll be brief, I had eggs over easy(undercooked), sausage(pitifully small, overcooked, with zero hints you are eating sausage), wheat toast from a homemade loaf(quite good) and«cheese» grits. OK, about these grits. What in thee bloody hell are you people thinking??? I noticed on the menu after ordering these were special blue grits, they looked like liver mush and had about the same consistency as Gerber strained peas. And a few sprinkles of shredded cheese on top does not make for cheese grits in the South damnit! Look at this picture… how pitiful is that? Unpardonable. Aside from giving me a mug with two chipped spots on the rim, my waiter at the counter had responsibility for about ½ the restaurant. That extra star up there is for him because he did a magnificent job, however chaotic it appeared. And I don’t like chaos, not when I’m trying to eat. So many better places in town for breakfast, avoid this yuppie paradise like the plague.

Do not… I repeat. Do not come here unless you have 4 hours of free time to spend on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The wait to eat here is unbelievable. I don’t think I have ever eaten here and I haven’t had to wait 3.5 weeks to get seated. Which, that says something about their food: It’s damn good. Set-up: Too small. Dining area reminds me of what an upscale diner would have looked like in the cartoon, «The Jetsons.» Really hipster, funky, rad layout. Food: I love the food here. I haven’t had one thing on the menu that isn’t good. I love breakfast. And, to me, those hashbaskets that they serve, are unbelievable. Hashbrowns topped with eggs, ham cheese, and your choice of meet… damn good. Service: Very average. Not enough servers. Every time I have been here it looks like the servers are overwhelmed. I have a weird thought that maybe this correlates to the long wait times… WOULD I BRINGMYMOTHERHERE? Yes, yes I would. Overall: The prices are a little high, the service is average and the wait is quite long. it’s a good thing this place has killer food or else it would just be a very sub par breakfast spot.

Really glad I stopped by today. The wait around 1PM was not bad at all. Complementary coffee while you wait is a plus plus. Our waitress was busy but incredibly attentive. I ordered the hash baskets and was so happy with my order. They are hash brown baskets with sausage(veggie sausage is awesome) and 2 over easy eggs on top and cheese. I got the got cheese and covered my eggs with hot sauce. The biscuit was too buttery for my taste, but most likely okay for most southerners. Very pleasantly surprised by this place. I wish it was larger with some outside seating. Will totally be back. Everything on the menu looks scrumptious. Much better than Another Broken Egg.

Stopped here for breakfast while in Birmingham(having overslept and missed the hotel breakfast). Decent blueberry pancakes(a little too sweet for my tastes), tasty hashbrowns, and turkey sausage was alright. I wasn’t overwhelmed, but I didn’t walk away disappointed, either. The wait for food felt a little heavy considering the time of day and customer volume, but it was a solid experience. I had hoped to buy a coffee mug to commemorate the visit, but they do not sell them(the hostess, however, did offer me a used one with a shred of lettuce stuck to it).

I could not believe how much food is is sitting on the ready shelf and has been there for over 5 minutes waiting for someone to take it to a table. I know they were short handed on servers but anyone can deliver food and it is tiring to watch 3 waitresses go to waiting food, look at the ticket then walk away, presumably it was another servers order. Do what you have to do so the customers can get their food, if that means a manger, hostess, or the wrong person delivers the food so be it.

Three stars because the food was amazing! The only problem was the service, the hostess was very nice but our server was very dismissive. He only came up and checked on us when we waived him down so he technically did not check on us at all. Our food took so incredibly long and he was very attentive to adult customers but I’m 19 so I guess since I’m younger it means I don’t deserve attentive service. He never filled our drinks and didn’t bring us anything we asked for. I’ve worked in a restaurant before and this was just unacceptable. I will go back for the food but I’ll have to clear three hours out of my schedule to do so.

Went here for breakfast. Cool vibe inside and good busy atmosphere. The service was very good and timely. Great local coffee and a killer orange juice. My eggs Benedict was pretty terrible though. It was mushy and the sauce was nasty and greasy As hell. The hash browns weren’t so bad but were lukewarm at best and that didn’t help.

Tried this place 2 yrs ago… can’t remember why but my husband never wanted to go back. Then this week we tried the new on on Acton Road. 4 days after it opened. 3 people in my group. 1 had perfect food. Pancakes, eggs, bacon. One had pancakes burned on bottom. left black crumbles and powder in plate when cut like burnt toast does. 2 had bacon too hard to eat… like the consistency of bacon bits. Literally could not eat it. Even asked for softer bacon when ordering. Two girls asked if they had pulp-free OJ… then ordered it after they said yes. Definitely not pulp-free. About $ 13/head. Not great.

It’s been a while since I have been here. Mainly because usually the wait is too long on the weekends to bare. Food has always been pretty decent. I have almost always gotten the Italian eggs benedict and found it very tasty. Today, from service to food, it was just not good. Breakfast is not that hard to mess up, so it comes down to quick efficient service and good execution for me, and both were sorely missing here. I will say our server tried, but probably due to ineptitude in the kitchen, it wasn’t to be. Once we ordered, not only did it take about 25 minutes to get our meals(which consisted on 2 egg dishes, scrambled eggs and yes the Italian eggs benedict), but two other tables received their meals before us, and both sat down after us, one of which probably sat down at least 10 minutes after us. Once the food arrived, it was either not as requested and barely edible. Wife ordered extra crisp bacon, which it was not, ordered hash browns and got grits, and I ordered a side of berries fruit(was told I could have all berries or mixed fruit and i choose the berries) and I got the mixed fruit. Most importantly, my Italian eggs benedict was barely edible. The poached eggs were fine, although a little too well done, but the«polenta cakes» they were on were complete mush, the«crispy pancetta» was some tough barely cooked ham, and the pesto gave the entire dish a very sour taste. The waiter noticed I barely ate my food and asked if I wanted something else, which was nice, but I was done. Sorry Over Easy, but I won’t be back. The concept is good, execution falls completely flat.

Over Easy is a perfect brunch location with an aesthetically pleasing modern interior: black, white, and yellow. Upon walking in we were told that there would be a 15 minute wait when half the tables were empty, so I assume they were short on wait staff, but we were promptly seated within 10 minutes. I got a variety of items as my entrée: oatmeal pancake, buttermilk pancake, French toast, sausage patties, and hashbrowns all for ~$ 10. My boyfriend got the Arriba omelette which was totally up his alley: chorizo, peppers, cheese, and he really loved it. I wish the wait staff would’ve been a little more attentive. It took a long time to place our orders after sitting down, and it took a long time to get checked on. Good food, though.

Okay. First, let me say the food was fairly good. I had a breakfast croissant. My husband had a plate including the gouda grits(which were purple for some reason). It’s just that the sandwich was nothing to write home about and I couldn’t even taste the cheese(just a sprinkle of shredded). I’m gonna keep it short and sweet with this one… the fact is we waited an hour on a Sunday brunch time(not surprising for that day/time, I know) from the time we got there to when the food was in front of us. I know the wait time for a table makes sense, but it was still a while once we ordered – isn’t breakfast food usually quicker to cook? The food was good, but just not worth an hour. We sat on 2 very short barstools because that was first available, the service was alright, but all in all I’m giving this one 3 stars because of «pretty good» food and«not so good» wait, service, and prices. I’d try it again on a slow night, perhaps, but truthfully Cracker Barrel is yummy, faster, and cheaper, just not as stylish or trendy. A plus is they have unlimited coffee for guests who are waiting!

I have attempted to go here on a few separate occasions and the wait has always been astronomical and have been forced to move on. But alas, the day finally came that we were told 20 minutes. Turned into 25−30… but complimentary coffee at the front made up for it three fold. There were numerous things that sounded great to me. And in typical fashion, I had 3 choices and made a last minute call when the waiter arrived. I ended up with the Philly Omelet. And wouldn’t you know it, I saw the hash baskets RIGHTAFTER I ordered and immediately wish I had gotten that. But you must live with the choices you make. And although regret was in my heart, the decision was not regretted. It had all of the makings of a philly cheesesteak, but in fluffy egg form. The hash browns were good and the biscuit was soft enough to sleep on. Pair that with a coffee cup that didn’t go empty and you have a great experience. Having to wait out in the bright heat of the sun was the only downfall. There is barely any waiting space inside. So weather and waiting would be the only reason I would decide not to go on a particular day. But if you get through the doors, you won’t regret it.

Brought my brother and sister here for breakfast. It looked so promising! Atmosphere: 5⁄5 Service: 5⁄5 Food: 3⁄5 First off, service was awesome… from the front to the back. But, it took a while for the food to come out. Not sure if it’s because it was busier than usual??? The presentation of the food was fabulous; however, we found it to be a underseasoned. It looked super flavorful though! There’s definitely room for improvement. I will be back to try more on the menu!

This place is very gluten friendly. Quaint but stylish, the atmosphere was very inviting. I sat down at the bar, and was greeted by a gentleman who had extensive knowledge of the menu. I went with the Italian eggs Benedict. Don’t let the purple shade of the polenta throw you off. The food tasted wonderful. The eggs were cooked just right, with the prosciutto giving just enough salt so you don’t need to season. I ate till I thought I was going to pop. Definitely my new favorite brunch spot.

Hate to give such a low rating but I have to… when there are roaches crawling on the wall next to your table and on the floor between the wall and a booth, a low rating is necessary. Upon seeing the first roach, I alerted the host as he was prepping the booth next to my table. Which by the way was located underneath the flat screen adjacent to the restroom area. At any rate, both the host and I looked down and saw other roaches. It was a pretty disgusting experience to say the least. After several minutes I noticed the host alerted another guy but neither made an effort to do anything about the roach den that was so evident. Makes me wonder if they were aware of it already. The whole experience was uncomfortable and embarrassing as I was there with my niece who had never eaten there before. Hopefully they will clean up the place and be more responsive when something as disgusting as this is brought to their attention. I won’t be returning anytime soon!

Stopped in Birmingham for a night during a recent road trip across the country from Charlotte, NC. A friend in BHam recommended Over Easy as the must-visit breakfast place during the week. We popped in at something like 8am on a Thursday morning for breakfast. I have to say, I was beyond pleasantly surprised! The breakfast menu was varied, interesting, and affordable. Service was quick and extremely friendly — our waiter recommended his favorites, and checked in with us frequently enough to be helpful, and not so frequently as to be a bother. Food was delicious and filling! We had the waffle with eggs and huevos rancheros. It was so great! If I lived in Birmingham, I’d be there all the time. The ambience is post-modern-hipster chic. The aesthetic is extremely well thought out, minimal, and delightfully bauhaus-y. Definitely worth appreciating if you’ve got design in your blood ;)

My sister brought me here for brunch when i was visiting, as it’s her favorite. Even though it was busy, the tables turn over pretty fast and we were seated soon after arriving. The food looked delicious but I was slightly underwhelmed by my breakfast sandwich. The flavor was pretty bland and it was more warm than hot. Maybe it was what I ordered because the dishes around me all looked great.
