I’ve grown up eating at Mr. p’s both sandwiches in house and steaks for the grill at home. Brought my boyfriend here today and unfortunately had a little hiccup. We got there in the middle of the lunch rush, ordered two Awesome Austen’s, got our chips and drink and sat down. As soon as we sat down the place was hit by a huge wave of people ordering. We waited and waited for our sandwiches and with each passing order hoped it was ours. Finally, after about 25 minutes we asked one of the workers if he knew about our order and it turns out they somehow forgot it even though we had placed it and had a table number :(! He quickly made it and brought it out and briefly apologized. We didn’t get a ticket like usual so not sure if he was trying to comp it or not. Either way, we enjoyed our sandwiches, paid our ticket and were on our way. I haven’t ever had a problem here before so still think it deserves 4 stars as the sandwiches and meat are very delicious!

My husband started the paleo diet, so we were on the hunt for some good protein options. After having one too many horrible steaks from grocery stores, we decided to try out Mr. P’s. We are so glad we did! We bought one of the meal deals to take home which included filet mignon. That steak was so tender I could literally cut it with my fork! The service was wonderful and it was clear they value our business. We won’t be buying meat anywhere else for the foreseeable future.

This place is great! I highly suggest the brisket sandwich. And the barbecue sauce is out of this world. The wait was not bad, service is very much«southern hospitality». If you are in this neck of the woods and it’s lunch time, you can’t go wrong with this place. That is, unless you are a vegetarian, seek food elsewhere. Plus, they have voodoo chips, these are the devil if you are on a diet, they’re great.

Well worth the quick 5 minute detour off the highway. The food was delicious and the staff was over the top friendly and welcoming. My husband wanted to buy everything in the store as well, great unique sauces and beers!

Mr. P’s is a landmark! Have been there a few times and has never been disappointing. I got the big Italian sand which today. The meat and bread was warmed perfectly with cheese oozing off the sides. I got the mallet«big Italian» but it was perfect size for a quick lunch. The staff is always friendly, and the butchers are on point! I have bought ribeyes there and their seasoning was outstanding. Great balance and a very casual. I bought the Original rub on the way out too! Boom

Great sandwiches. Perfect lunch spot. Line can be long. Not good if you have a short time for lunch. The view is also nice from this area.

first thing is first, Heathers Hoagie… AMAZING!!! something about the honey wheat bread fresh and soft and then add a TON of meat… then slather it down with their honey mustard… perfect choice and very tasty… Have been here a few times, Mr. P’s never disappoints… always spot on, fresh and always on point. great deli and market… Also one of the places you can find the Voodoo chips. worth a try for sure. If you have time and are looking for a great sandwich to fill you up, This IS the place. great little gem for sure.

Great deli. The sandwiches are great! Lots of choices and they pack on the meat. The rolls are fresh. This place is busy so get there early for lunch. Not a lot of seating. This is also a great place to get your meat as it is also a butcher shop. There are some grocery items and ready made meals to take home for dinner. Can’t wait to go back. So many things I would like to try!

I’ve been coming to Mr. P’s for several years now, ever since I found out about it while in college at UAB. At first glance, you might miss it. It’s a hole in the wall place, but it is a great place to eat. I have tried a good portion of their menu, but my favorites are the Tiger(cajun turkey & bacon), the Italian Sausage, and the Ribeye Steak. The staff is always friendly, and the sandwiches are tasty. The only issues you might run across is tracking down a bottle of BBQ sauce or finding a seat, as most days it is packed. If you want to grab some of the meats to take home, the butcher shop has a great selection with good prices as well.

Ever since I moved to Birmingham/met BF, he’s been raving about this sandwich place that I(nor anyone else) knew of, besides my fellow Bham Unilocalers. But because we work on opposite ends of Birmingham, and since they’re closed in the evening, AND we both have full weekend travel/social schedules, it has taken us a while to find the time to visit. But we finally did this weekend. We arrived around 12:30 on a Saturday. The parking lot was fairly full, but we were able to find a space. I was guided towards the back of the shop where a large menu was displayed with the sandwich descriptions. Several people had raved about the ribeye sandwich, but seeing the tide(roast beef and cheddar), I quickly changed my mind. We ordered at the counter, grabbed our bags of chips and filled our cup with drinks and found a booth to settle in at. Fairly quickly our sandwiches were brought to our table, along with our check(you pay at the front as you’re leaving). Sandwiches were much bigger than I expected, my only disappointment was no pickle spear(ask BF, I get extra pickles on everything). I tried the Mr. P’s sauce at the beginning, and halfway through my sandwich decided that I would go all in and put on the remainder of my sandwich. As we got ready to leave, I noticed that all tables and booths were occupied, and there was a line to order. Guess we came at the right time! We wandered through the store a bit, and looked at all the fresh and frozen meats that were available to purchase. I agree with my fellow Unilocalers: Probably one of the best sandwich spots in Bham, and I’m sure I’ll be back.

Passing though from California we Unilocaled and Mr P’a came up for lunch. Great recommendation for sandwiches and baked beans. Very nice staff, friendly and outgoing. When we return for more golf at Ross Bridge we’ll be at Mr. P’s.

I order the Mr. P’s favorite combo every time I go here. It never disappoints. It’s a small family-run business, and when I eat there I always feel like part of it.

No frills sandwich shop with high quality meats. You can’t go wrong. If i could give a half star, Mr. P’s definitely ranks 4.5. Grab a sandwich for lunch and then take home some homemade italian sausage and steaks for the week. Fast, friendly service — the fellows will patty up some burgers by order. Make sure to ask for Mr. P’s seasoning — gives it a little flavor that sets their meats apart.

I have lived in NY where some of the worlds best deli’s reside and my opinion is; this place is overrated… If you wanna call having a Ribeye Steak sandwich(that’s actually roast beef) with provolone and a cold cup of Au Jus sauce«outstanding», I would encourage you to reserve judgment. Not only that, but I paid $ 18.26 for a whole sub(ribeye DBA roast beef), chips and fountain soda. I felt like I was back in NY. They got me once, but they won’t get me again. This place was a huge disappointment, considering all of the positive reviews.

When I first moved to Birmingham, I heard about this local staple. For years I visited the deli and have enjoyed a plethora of their wide variety of sandwiches. Anything with the cajun roast beef is a personal favorite. I haven’t come close to trying even half of the menu, so I won’t throw out specific recommendations. But I will say I have never had a bad sandwich. It took me a few years to start exploring the butcher part of Mr. P’s. I do love a great cut of meat. But because of the typically higher prices of independent butcher shops, I only go on occasion. Mr. P’s butcher shop falls right in the middle of that. They do have great cuts of meat and will cut anything for you on the spot to meet your size needs. The prices are not quite as cheap as a grocery store and won’t have discounts. But in the grand scheme of independent butcher shops, their prices are pretty good. And for the quality you are getting, it is WELL worth the trip. Overall, deli or butcher, Mr. P’s is a must.

My review is for the deli only, but I can attest to the fact that the meat selection looks quite impressive as well. These are some really tasty sandwiches at very reasonable prices with(a completely foreign concept in Miami) very friendly service. I had their ½ lb ribeye sandwich which is basically their version of a French dip with a crazy good dipping sauce. Not sure exactly what it was, but I would describe it as something similar to au jus meets A1. Also had a few bites of the NY Yankee which is chicken, bacon, and cheese with a delicious white sauce. Both sandwiches I tried were the kinds of things I will find myself craving randomly months from now. That is one of my measures for how good a place is, and this place has big time craveabilty factor. Would love to come back next time I’m in town.

P for Pilleteri! Why have I not been here before now? This is a weird convenient store, meets butcher shop, meets sandwich shop with a handsome selection of craft brews! Sounds awesome already right? I know! Came here for lunch on a Saturday not long ago and was greatly pleased. I ordered the lunch speacial #4 «Free Bird» — ¼ lb Chicken, Swiss Cheese and Pilleteri’s Honey Mustard on a Honey Wheat Bun. It was sooo great! All ingredients comprised on this sandwich were so fresh. Super soft(and good) bread. Reminds me of a sweet Hawaiian roll with the flavor. If you dine in, each table has a variety of seasonings/sauces. I was lucky enough to be at a table that had some authentic Pilleteri’s BBQ sauce. This is real and authentic BBQ sauce too! Vinegar based, so it’s more runny vs THICK like some store bought Kraft or something and the flavor is ALLTHERE! This only elevated an already great sandwich! With the combo, got a fountain drink and some chips as well. Sometimes less is more and this place executes well on this concept. No frill no fancy, just good eatin’! I shall be returning here in the near future. Mr. P, you have a new fan in me!

This is a sweet spot in Birmingham! Finally a spot in town that seems to be a little known secret(for non-locals), yet so many folks love it. The deli is amazing! Kinda confusing because you order at the counter. .grab whatever drinks & chips you want… don’t expect to pay until after you devour your meal. Once your sandwich arrives the server will tally your meal & provide the ticket. The booths are old school with tons character. This has clearly been a staple to the bluff park/shades mountain community and for good reason! I ordered the delicious d-law sandwich(cajun chicken & cajun white turkey w/melted cheese & pickle) add water & voodoo heat zapps chips. Husband had freebird sandwich(deli sliced chicken) honey mustard kettle cooked chips. Total $ 20 Delicious eats=HAPPY Saturdays

I went to Mr. P’s for lunch yesterday with my husband. Small, quaint little shop with a deli in the back. First of all, before we even set foot inside the shop we were greeted by Mr. P outside whom I believe is quite possibly one of the nicest guys I’ve met. He wished us a good lunch and assured us we would be satisfied. I totally forgot the name of the sandwich I had, but it had 1⁄3 chicken, 1⁄3 white turkey(I switched to smoked turkey), 2 slices of bacon, mozzarella, and Mr. P’s honey mustard on a honey wheat hoagie. Mmmmm, mmmm, mmmm! Yummy! My husband had. something that looked delicious but honestly I was so focused on my sandwich I didn’t even ask to taste his. Oh, and for those wondering. the sandwiches are served hot. There’s a gazillion sandwich options, chips, evidently really good pickles(per my husband, I’m not a pickle eater), and these really yummy cookies. I had key lime white chocolate cookies. That’s right. KEYLIMEWHITECHOCOLATE. Who does that?! Anyhoot, Mr. P checked us out afterwards and extended his graciousness as I was a first time visitor. Superb service, homey atmosphere, and great food? One of my rare five stars… Well done Mr. P… WELLDONEINDEED.
