LOCAL – It’s All About Alabama

This is the second time that we have been to Local, and have enjoyed it both times! We enjoy hearing the live bands while browsing the 30+ vendors that are on hand. I do wish that there were a few more vendors on hand, more like Pepper Place would offer. We got into the VIP tent this year, and I really enjoyed it. They had some great shrimp pilaf, Greek salad, and fresh bread. You could also have a selection wines of Good People beers as well! If you drink a lot of beer, and like seafood, then it would have been a fairly good deal. However, my partner doesn’t eat seafood, and they did not say beforehand what was going to be on the menu. I do feel as if they should put a chicken or other meat option out there as well. Overall, a really good time!

This is a great event… It reminds me of pepper place but with alcohol and night time. The VIP is cool but i feel they need to show a menu. For example, this year they had shrimp pilaf and all the beer and wine you wanted. I unfortunatley, can not have any of that… so for me… it is not worth it. However, great entertainment from local bands and great vendors.

What a cool event. Overall the concept is cool. And when you pair that with great execution, a successful event is going to happen. This was my first year attending, but it certainly won’t be my last.
For everything being temporary structures, it looked very well put together. The stage and lights were impressive. And with the threat of rain, they were prepared to protect all of that. But since it only lightly sprinkled, the result was about as perfect of weather as you can ask for in an Alabama June. The food trucks provided a nice selection of food. And the vendors varied in every category from macaroons, to produce, to art. A nice blend to keep things interesting.
The performers were all incredible. There were some that still have my heart fluttering. The push for LOCAL was apparent in everything going on. Even the original songs written had a touch of Alabama to them. I hope this event continues to grow every year. Because what they are doing at the Alys Stephens Center is perfect for something like this. Oh yeah and its FREE! No-​brainer. Put it on your calendar for next year.

This was my second year attending the LOCAL event. The only thing that made this year better was that the weather was well below 100 degrees… Which is what it felt like last year.
Local businesses selling everything from crafts to food to dog treats. There’s a vendor row with 30+ local vendors. A couple dispensing stations for free water as well as local brew + mixed drinks. There were several food trucks out as well. Plenty of seating with tables and chairs along with some greenspace for lawn chairs, blankets etc.
Live music competition was great for the most part. Lots of talented artists who really love their home state of Alabama! A lot of people came out and enjoyed the atmosphere for free. It really reminded me of the Saturday market at Pepper Place, just a somewhat different vibe. Anyway… Yet another reason people can’t say there’s nothing to do around the city!
