Marika’s food is fabulous!!! Everything is made to order and the service is wonderful! It truly doesn’t get any better than this! Our picky family of 6 completely cleaned our plates and that never happens. Highly recommended, our new favorite restaurant! Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a terrific meal.

The rule for having a really good Marika’s experience is don’t go during a busy time. Pretty simple rule. You will be tempted to break this rule but don’t. We go during the week when we happen to have a day off. We always get stellar service and our food is done right. That being said, Marika is the epitome of the stereotypical(archetypal?) German grandma. That is to say, don’t expect special treatment, you might be the customer, but clearly, you are not always right. Do not ask for substitutions or extra plates for splitting your meal. Read the damn menu and comprehend it. It is what it is, no exceptions. Leave your special snowflake status at the door. If you cop an attitude, you will get it back. You want to split your meal? Get it to go. Realize that if you break the rule for a good Marika’s experience that you will experience long waits, 45 min to an hour is not unheard of, longer on holiday weekends. Also be aware that the quarters are tight, they have seating for 36, but holy crisco, it’s jammed packed. If you don’t like crowds, eat outside or get the food to go. When following the only rule, the food is good and service is good. The hash is really good and made in house with real corned beef, and you can tell. They make it fresh everyday. The coffee is dark roast and strong. It tastes as though she keeps those press pots sparkling clean. Though the place looks a little weathered it was very clean. The prices are high but not out of this world, and not much higher than anywhere else in Beverly.

Our family and friends have been going there for almost 5 years The food is great the service very friendly. Mushka Marika and the staff go out of their way to treat our grand daughters like family. In addition to the friendly outgoing family environment, There are many books and stuffed animals for the children to play with. Nice place to visit and great food. I love the hash and eggs, it is always cooked to perfection. Service is first rate. We love the German style cooking and the European atmosphere. If you have not been, try breakfast or lunch, I guarentee you will go back.

I have finally given up on this place. Grumpy stern owner, waitress is always flustered and nuts even if there are only a few tables going. The eggs are good, food is good, but the service is so weird. I called ahead today for a couple breakfast sammies and they hadnt started making them till i was there. They have been really unfriendly to my small kids in the past, and i witnessed one of them being so rude to a 10 top that didnt re-confirm their reservation. The waitress was exasperated with them, being sarcastic and chastising them because they would be taking up tables. The place had 4 parties at that point. Crazy. So i am done. I just had to run to a nearby atm in the pelting rain because they are cash only. Never again.

My favorite place in all of New England, if not just in general. When I go back home to Detroit, I tell stories about this place and the people who work here. I’ve never been to a place where I love seeing the same people, hearing about their lives, and enjoy the food all at the same time, usually every other place is 2 of those 3… I’ve explored the menu a bit, tried a couple of the specials, and not ONCE — EVER have I been disappointed or have left less than full and satisfied. I started taking my boyfriend w me who began to love it as much as I do, and now reminds me if we haven’t been there in a while. While it is cash only, the prices are more than fair. Marika loves to tell you about the ingredients(usually fresh &/or organic) in her specials as well as your order, and the family does a great job running the place. I definitely have went way out of my way to get breakfast here more than a few times. Worth every single penny.

Excellent food! Feels like you’re eating in your own livingroom! Friendly, warm staff who treat you like family. Prices are right, and they usually have a traditional German dish of the day which is always delicious! Top notch overall! A comfortable, low-key way to spend a lazy weekend morning!

Just ok food. Been wanting to try this place for awhile. The owner is so sweet and friends they have a solid follow of regulars. I had 2 eggs scrambled, the eggs were done some unique way. They didn’t look scrambled. The husband had western omelette. He thought they were mean on the ham. The portions weren’t huge which is nice and the home fries are good but you don’t get enough in my opinion. I don’t think we will be back soon. Cash only!

Great food! We have only had breakfast there but it was delicious — hard to choose from the tasty options. The service is pretty good — they are a bit strict /intense — but attentive. The wait for food can also be awhile but I assume that’s just because they are making your food from scratch, which is worth it.

It was so-so. Went with friends and they still talk about our scary(seemed on drugs) waitress. Small portions for a high price but perfectly filling. The home fries were not very greasy, which I LOVED! When I went, there was no wait. But if there was a wait, it’s not worth it

Being a vegetarian, I was excited to try the vegetarian breakfast sausage. Honestly, it was SOOOOO good that I had to double-check to see if it was actually vegetarian. I’d go just for that! But the omelettes are also something special. I’ve never had to wait, and never had bad service! I’m actually going there Saturday… can’t wait for that sausage!

We stopped by on a Sunday morning. Our food(egg sandwich & French toast) was good– your basic breakfast place fare. Prices were decent. Service was ok, but for some reason everything seemed to take a really long time. I wasn’t blown away, but it was a nice Sunday morning breakfast stop.

My roommate and I have been weekday morning regulars here for almost a year. In addition to weekly breakfasts, we stop in for lunches when we have days off and have been in on the weekend with other friends(and our parents). Pros: — The food is wonderful. I’ve had pancakes, eggs, toast, sandwiches both breakfast and lunch, crabmeat quiche, home fries, pie, french toast, and macaroni and cheese — and every single thing was delicious. I mean it. Not just diner-delicious, but home-cooked Mama-made-it marvels of German and American food. So good. — The staff is awesome. They’re sweet, funny, and sassy — it’s more like eating with your family than anything else. — Everything is cheap. Being a regular there has been completely affordable. — The family that owns it is German, so they serve German home-cooked specials that are to die for on Thursdays. They are proud of their German food and rightly so. — I’m terribly picky with chais, but Marika’s makes the best chai lattes I’ve ever had. In the summer, they’ll serve you an iced one mixed with ice cream if you ask. Do it. Ask for one. You will not regret it. — Somehow they manage to get the portions perfect. There’s always just enough to be full and never too much to eat in one sitting. Cons: — Wait can be long. Don’t go if you’re in a hurry. — Don’t expect to be coddled. The staff is personable and gracious, but pulls no punches. They cook for themselves, their regulars, and anyone who is nice to them. If you’re mean or impolite, they won’t tolerate it. — Cash-only and not open on Tuesdays, which just means you have to plan ahead. I’m glad they give themselves a break once a week though, because they work hard. Marika’s might be my favorite restaurant on the North Shore because it’s affordable, homey, and delicious. My loyalty to the place is absolute, both because of the food and because of the people. If you tend to be hyper-critical when you’re being served, save everyone a trip and don’t go. if you want to fall in love with a family and their homestyle food, go, say hi, and order anything you want — it’s all good!

We moved to Beverly about a month ago and found this place right away. Marika’s is a low key breakfast joint with great food and friendly service.

Crisp Saturday morning and we stopped in to Marika’s for breakfast. Carrot pancakes? Portabello omelet? AMAZING! Even the two eggs over easy with delicious home-fries was savory good. I felt like I was eating brunch in a posh hotel in New York. the food was really, really good. We overheard the table next to us oohing and ahhh over the french toast, so got an order for«dessert»(yeah its possible at breakfast) and we were yumming our way to happiness. Most of the breakfast came home because we were so stuffed. Mushka the owner was a delight, telling us about her german specials on Thursday nights. We were loving this place, a hidden gem on Cabot street in downtown Beverly. Saturday morning is looking good from now on.

I feel bad writing this because Marika’s mom was the nicest woman in the world, and was genuinely concerned that we enjoyed our food. However, if I could give this place zero stars, I would. I waited ANHOURANDTWENTYMINUTES for an omelette. a freakin western omelette. It was ok. Nothing special. ANHOURANDTWENTYMINUTES If i hadn’t invested so much time there, i would have left at the hour mark. I will not be going back.
