My grandmother was a tailor for the Generals in the military so I am familiar that Helen of Knitting House is a master craftsman! Her range of expertise is diverse from custom creations that are high fashion to casual wears! Her repair work is true artistry! As a professional she has a depth of sweetness that is real and candid that is rare and genuine which made my experience that much more interesting! KIm K.

I will never give money or recommend anyone to give their business to an owner who is hostile & negative. I felt instantly judged by her and unwelcome — all the reviews referring to her as a «nice» lady shock me. She was incredibly rude to me. I don’t know if she was just having a bad day or what, but there’s no excuse to be that hostile to ANYONE, especially me — I am super sweet and loving to everyone I meet. There’s many knitting places in LA, and I’d rather give my money to someplace that understands the concept of respect.

Helen is so kind! It is my first time learning how to knit and she got me started, helped me pick needles and cast-on with yarn that is on sale. Their holiday sale is between 15−30%off! She is located on the 2nd floor(so you may drive in circles like I did) — but she told me that they have 2 hrs free parking downstairs along with classes on Saturdays starting at 2pm. Knitting, here I come. :)

i’m not sure i understand the positive reviews of this place. the«store»(really a weird upstairs room in an office building) is really small, with a pretty paltry selection. more importantly, the owner seems unfriendly and completely clueless. i was looking for yarn to go with a pattern i’d already selected, and asked her if the yarns were sorted by weight. she gave me a weird look and said, «weight? no, we sell by length. how many yards?» i tried to explain i meant the weight of the yarn – worsted, bulky, dk, etc. – but she continued to look puzzled. finally she asked me slowly, «have you EVERKNITBEFORE?» clearly she thought i was some kind of moron, but these are pretty basic questions. i made up an excuse and left.

This is not exactly a store as you’d think. It’s on the second floor of an office building. Very odd. You have to ring a doorbell to enter. The woman that answered the door didn’t bother to greet my son and me. She just opened the door and walked back to the table to sit. The«store» was a small room that had bookshelves along the wall with yarn. I was in need of a new set of circular knitting needles for a project. The selection of needles consisted of Clover brand(not my fave) — that’s it. So, in short, I will not be going back.

Helen is the nicest lady in the WORLD! She closed at 5:30PM on December 23rd and I called her at 5:45PM to see if she was still open. When she heard i was to be a new customer, she quickly said she would stay open until i got there! Upon arrival, i noticed her yarn selection was much fancier than the typical craft store and her beautiful creations were all over the space. She gave me a book to help me with my patterns, and showed me a few things before i left. What a GEM! The service and selection is DEFINITELY worth the higher price for yarn. P. S. She is now located on the second floor of the building, in case you have trouble finding her.

Great selection of yarn! Helen — the owner — is a very, very nice lady! She is very helpful and she is great at teaching! I have now made few projects with her help! I like the place so much, that in my free time I go there and hang out with her and the other women that come there. She also gave a class to my 11-year old son. He loved it as well, but as it turns out is too cool for knitting…
