Department of Motor Vehicles

Only two things could have resulted in a better experience:
— free refreshments
— More intuitive website with «records» to ensure all my forms are electronically completed and available for printing at the DMV office.
Having an appointment got me in and out within an hour:
— New driver’s license (moved-​in from out-​of-​state)
— Vehicle registration w/​plates
Take the time to prepare before you get there and you’ll be rewarded with the gift of time in return!

The mere mention of this place makes people cringe in the most disapproving, deplorable way. Off the top of my head I can think of three things that are more fun than the department of motor vehicles: Ingrown toenails, boiling water and watching paint dry on a humid day. Yeah, really.
My license is expiring… soon. Normally, I’d just pay the man and renew it online. BUT WAIT— I need an eye exam? What? Their suggestions are to go to either to your normal eye doctor and have them fill out your form OR take a stroll to the gov’ts own little version of purgatory. I don’t have an eye doctor, ophthalmologist, optician or and don’t really wear glasses (technically), so I chose the DMV route.
I’ve heard things about the Bethpage DMV, as if it were some sort of coveted secret. At first I was disappointed, as it was pretty crowded and took well over a half hour to get called up. However, I was ecstatic that A) I didn’t have to smell someones BO the entire time B) The place was rather clean and C) The girl who took care of me was phenomenal.
I thought the DMV sucks the life out of you. Every experience I’ve had with this organization’s employees has been somewhere on the spectrum between indifferent and soul-​crushing. To my surprise the girl that was assisting me had the best demeanor. She was sweet, she smiled and she didn’t yell «NEXXT» with a sigh and the voice of someone who’s been smoking Marlboro reds for the past 20 years. Best part was, it took about 10 mins to process the paperwork and take the easiest eye exam ever. I wanted to high five her, she made my day better!
The operating hours stink, but overall this DMV isn’t too painful.

Absolute chaos.
Pepole are given a ticket when they walk in with a letter and number. They selection of the tickets seems to be completely random. No one can explain the order in which they are called. I waited an hour before the first letter in my category was called. Meanwhile dozens of people who walked in after me get the service they need and leave.
If you need to register a car plan to be there for several hours

Every time I come here I have to wait atleast an hour, for anything, even as small as waiting for a receipt for plates I had returned. Half of the staff is rude, while the other half is sitting around doing nothing at their desks. Go to massapequa DMV and save your time!

Haven’t been to the DMV in ages, since almost everything can be done on-​line these days. I had just «bought out» my lease on my car and had to start the process of changing the title over to my name. It can be done via mail, but I thought going in person would give me assurance that the paperwork was received. I checked on-​line and saw they had an on-​line reservation system. I chose a date and time and printed out my reservation (can also be done on a smart phone). I went to the DMV at the appointed time, checked in by scanning my reservation barcode, and was assigned a number. Within 30 seconds my number was called. I had checked online to see what forms I needed and had them filled out and at the ready. I also made sure all the items I needed to complete my transaction were with me, and I had the check I needed filled out and ready. Clerk was nice, gave me copies of my papers «just in case», processed my application, and I was out on the street within ten minutes. WTG DMV of Bethpage!

Extremely nasty staff and managers. Nobody knows anything. 3 times to the dmv to register a boat and nobody knows how to do it. Sad

Today we made a family trip to this DMV so that my daughter could get her permit and i have to say that they are pretty organized even though the place was packed. They get Kudos for customer service and the place was kept pretty clean even though they were super busy. yes my princess did great passed with flying colors! The whole process did not take more that 2 hours that was awesome.

The most pleasant dmv in the area. They try hard to work with whatever issue you have in a timely manner. Compared to Whitestone and Garden City, the queue moves faster. It is a state department though so invariably there will be some kind of wait especially if you arrive around lunch time and after.

I wish I could leave less than one star this has to be the worst dmv on longisland the wait is horrible and the people behind the counters are about as pleasurable as a shark attack stay away go anywhere else and I write this as I’m trying to get my boat registered

Very very friendly staff. It might take a bit to wait in the line after you take your number but the staff come across as genuinely concerned about your issue and do their best to accommodate your needs.

I wouldn’t usually give a second thought to rating a DMV. The experience is normally just a tad more pleasant than a root canal. But this location surprised me. Friendly and efficient staff (believe it or not). Maybe is was because I went on St. Patricks Day… but whatever the reason, it was a pretty good visit.

Easy as Apple Pie.
I needed to get my learner’s permit so that I could learn how to drive. So I came in with my dad and my brother who was also getting his permit. We went to the desk nearest to the door where there was no line and was told to wait to be called up after we handed her our application and proof of identity.
We waited about a minute, maybe less, and were called up to the other side of the room to take the test. Taking the test took no more than a few minutes, though one question was confusing: «You are allowed to pass a car on the right if it is…» They said they couldn’t tell if «on the right» was referring to myself passing the car by being on the right to the car I’m passing or if the car I’m passing was to the right of myself. So, that pretty much made the question a 50% chance of being correct once your narrow it down to the two answer choices.
The wait afterwards took a bit longer, but we got our (temporary) driver’s permit with no problem. I should be getting my actual permit in two weeks though.

Why does s trip to the DMV always have to be so painful? I must look like the dog who is forced to go into the car and they know they’ll wind up at the vet. We encountered something new today, the Garden City and Bethpage DMV had conflicting notes as to a titled vehicle ownership. It’s being researched now and I will be sure to keep posting the updates to this review.
Oh yea, the folks behind the counter were extremely pleasant and understanding to the dilemma, unfortunately there was nothing they could do at the time.

This was the least painful experience I’ve had at the DMV.
I was able to renew my drivers license in less then 15 mins.
In less time that it took my lunch to be ready, my dl was renewed.
That’s so awesome
