This is a great place for cheap eats. I had the cheesesteak with cheese sauce(not wiz) and a little marinara. It was different but good. I would definitely come back.

I decided to try someplace need for lunch, had an old menu in the office, thought, let’s go. I got there. The place was empty. Placed my order, was told that«that size isn’t available». I ordered from the hanging digital sign. It’s right there, she came around and looked, that’s wrong. Made the sandwich anyway. What i got was mediocre, and for what it cost, a rip off. Then he manager came along and repeated, the sign is wrong. How is this my problem??? Must be a reason they are empty, it showed. Avoid it. Yuk.

Okay cheese steak. Very little cheese and super salty. Their default is sauce, pickles and onions… I ordered no sauce or pickles. Pickles on a cheese steak seems weird to me…

I grew up in the 80s. That said, is steaks & subs were posted all over the valley. This location is the last that I know of and I’m pretty sure they are on their way out soon. For starters I wanna state my 1 star is not bc of the food rather bc of the staff and conditions in this restaurant. I walked in and placed an order and waited. While I observed some high school girl put gloves on and begin making my cold sub, someone else came in and placed an order that she took. Well after touching the pen, cash register and money(with the gloves on) she began touching the sandwich for my order. Obviously I objected and said I am not taking that sandwich after you just touched money. So she rolled her eyes gave me a dirty look and threw the roll away. So she changed her gloves began making a new sandwich and while making the sandwich wipes her face again with her hands. At this point I’m irate and the older manager lady came over. So I explain what had just occurred and can you guess what she said? «Oh she’s a new employee» seems to me that food handlers SHOULDBETAUGHTPROPERFOODHANDLINGDAYONEOFWORK. I guess what bothers me most is the manager didn’t seem to think it was a big deal this girl touched filthy money, a pen and a cash register and then touched food that was for my family. It’s any wonder disease is so widespread. I can only imagine what Gos on in kitchens that aren’t open to the public. Btw in addition to this issue apparently the bathroom is used as additional storage for the soda they sell. The men’s room is housing soda racks. Like I said its a shame they have filthy scoundrels running this place bc the food used to be great.

Ahhh love me some J’s! I loved J’s when they were a franchise in the ’70’s and they are still making them great(just a little skimpier on the meat) but oh how tasty! If you are looking for a «Philly cheesesteak» go somewhere else… that is not what J’s is about. Chipped steak sautéed with finely diced onions with luscious cheese and steak sauce(tomato) with pickle slices on a fresh roll is what J’s can make for anytime minus the onions. Their subs are great too!

Quick review! If you want to revisit you high school cafeteria come here! They charged me 70 cents to put cheese on my sandwich. Some of the tables are lopsided. The light in the women’s bathroom is EXTREMELYDIM! I needed a flashlight just to find the tissue!

Good God, apparently I must have stolen the DeLorean from Doc and Marty. That was my initial feeling walking into J’s after I saw the décor and realized that I was in 1982 some how. Depressing, dingy, and dated. But here’s the funny thing… the food is actually respectable. The cheesesteak and perogies were done nicely and they actually tasted like they should. Also since J’s coupons are in every weekly/monthly/quarterly Clipper Magazine its very easy to save a few dollars. If your not scared off by the looks of the place, J’s is still a decent under the radar place in the LV to get a cheesesteak.

Not the best, but still pretty good. Pros: decent, but not awesome steak sandwiches. Good fries. Decent prices. Cons: Not that great in any particular area. Given the Lehigh Valley is so close to the Philadelphia area, it comes as no surprise that cheesesteak places tend to pervade the region. There are good ones and there are some mediocre ones. IMO, J’s Steaks is a middle-of-the-road steak place. The steak on their cheesesteaks is certainly steak, but it’s chopped up into oblivion. Same goes for the fried onions they put onto the steak. Nothing about it screams anything better than average. Ditto for their fries, which come in decent portions and in a classic cup. The décor and everything, outside of the prices, screams 80’s more than anything. The wood paneling, the seating arrangement, the counter and menu fixtures, the video game arcade in the back, even the french fries cup with the image of french fries on the outside — it’s like the restaurant’s been stuck in a time warp. But I’m totally okay with it, since I was born in the 80’s and love that era. And I haven’t seen those cups since I was 7 years old, so I love taking a nostalgia trip back.

Stopped by for lunch when I couldn’t find another place to go… Ordered a cheesesteak. Was very disappointed when the steak showed up with a red sauce. I’m sorry, but cheesesteaks should not have sauce on them. The steak tasted alright, but I’m definitely not coming back. Fries weren’t very good either.

Come on this place is great. One of the better places to get cheesesteaks around here. I’m not particuarly fond of the area anymore, but sandwiches are sooo good and reasonably priced… Forget about Subway I’m going to J’s.
