Woman’s Boutique Consignments

Whenever I’m in downtown Bethesda, I love to stop by Women’s Boutique Consignments and browse. The owner, Jennifer, is very friendly and helpful. I’ve found a couple of cute shirts here and even a gorgeous tapestry purse/​briefcase, which was on sale!

DO NOT CONSIGN YOUR CLOTHES WITH WOMAN’S BOUTIQUE CONSIGNMENTS!!! I decided to consign several articles of my designer clothing through Woman’s Boutique Consignments last year. Jenifer Nguyen, the store owner, and I agreed on a sales price per article of clothing, which was written into a contract. Jenifer also repeatedly reassured me that she would never unilaterally lower the price of my clothing, unless I gave her permission to do so. Every 3 – 4 weeks, my mother or I would call Jenifer to check on the status of our clothing. During each of these calls, Jenifer requested to lower the price of my clothing as most of them had remained unsold. I told her not to lower the price, so Jenifer asked for more time to see if they would sell, which I accepted. Finally, nearly 5 months later, I decided to end our contract and pick up my clothing. I talked to Jenifer and told her to simply hold on to my clothing until I could arrange a pick up day/​time, which she said was fine. When I showed up a few weeks later to pick up my clothing, Jenifer only returned two items, stating that she managed to sell three items since our last conversation. This clearly sounded a bit suspicious and I was very shocked as I had requested that she not sell anything. What was even more shocking and upsetting was that she had sold my clothing at only a quarter of our originally agreed upon price!!! When I followed up with her to get an explanation, she became extremely defensive and hostile and refused to show me any proof of sale. In the end, she refused to give me the difference in sales price per our original agreement. Her only response was that according to our contract any clothing that remains unsold automatically becomes her property after 90 days. In other words, if she can’t manage to sell your clothing within 90 days, she will assume ownership– this is clearly ludicrous and utterly wrong!!! There are plenty of reputable consignment stores within Bethesda that will treat you and your property with respect and handle the sales process in a transparent and honest manner. Save yourself the trouble and do NOT make the same mistake I did — stay away from Jenifer and her «consignment store» UNLESS YOU WANT TO THROW AWAY YOUR MONEY!!!

I came here looking for something for my friend. It’s her birthday and I wanted to get her something nice. I know shes very into designer items and I couldn’t afford to pay retail. I didn’t know what to get her, and the owner herself helped me pick out a purse. My friend ended up loving the purse even though it was lightly used!
I would definitely recommend all the ladies who have high end designer items they aren’t using/​wearing to consign here!
