How many times does it take to get a coffee order correct during a Sunday brunch? Drum roll…4. I suggested this location because it is part of the well known Silver Diner chain. Scrambled eggs well done is not the same as sunny side up. When is it acceptable to get ½ of a 2 person order incorrect? Maybe I need to be happy that they got 50% correct

Pretty good diner. I am not really impressed with Silver Diner chain in the DC area, decided to give this a try. Service was great. I was greeted at door when I arrived on a Sunday morning. I like the idea of this place opening at 7am for breakfast. Most brunch spots do not open until 10am or later. I ordered the Caramel French toast option and my husband ordered Buttermilk Pancakes. Silver offers local farm raised food(not Jimmy Dean’s sausage). Thumbs up FORTHEQUALITY! Coffee was great(a little costly for $ 3 per person). I will come back next time for a milkshake or sandwich. A great addition to the downtown Bethesda area.

A welcome addition to Bethesda! Food was well prepared and delicious. Love the brussel sprouts and fish of the day, flounder. Excellent cocktails and the service is friendly, timely and knowledgeable.

You would think that a place with a sleek, Art Deco-inspired interior and a good location in Bethesda would have food that matches its fancy façade. Even with the magnificent and welcoming atmosphere, I feel like Silver falls short on a lot of things. Sure, Silver is an upscale version of the Silver Diner chain, but that doesn’t mean their food is any better. Let’s start off with the menu. There were a few items on the menu that actually sounded like things I wanted to order, while the other choices were just… eh. I have to note that they aren’t very expansive with the menu and don’t have a section for sides/à la carte items, which is a bummer. I usually order something from the«a la carte» section at places because I’m usually still hungry after a meal, lol. I ordered the crab & corn soup to start off with. I liked the flavor of this cream-based soup. The soup had a generous amount of corn kernels, but was very meager on the crab meat. It had a subtle crab flavor, with a zing that packed a little heat. For my entrée, I had the salmon & white asparagus. I feel like they tried to be fancy with this dish, but they completely missed the mark. The fish was a little TOO overdone because it was tough and very dry. The fish sat on top of a coagulated lump of cauliflower mash and little stalks of asparagus, where the green exterior was peeled off for the«white» hue. It was garnished with an unattractive, dingy-looking lemon slice. The green lemon-garlic sauce underneath everything did not do the dish any justice. It had a very slimy consistency and didn’t go well with the fish or the asparagus. This dish didn’t even come out hot, just lukewarm — which makes me feel like the food was just sitting out before it got to me. Seriously not appetizing at all. The service was pretty abysmal. At the start of everything, our server answered any questions we had about the menu with great detail. As soon as we gave him our order, that’s when service went downhill and he was nowhere to be seen. When he finally came to check up on my friend and I, we asked for a side of fries since the food I barely ate left me hungry. I was also pretty unhappy with the housemade sodas. We had the pineapple/lemongrass and the apple sodas. They had the subtle flavor of what they were, but weren’t very carbonated so it was basically weakly flavored sugar water. Definitely not worth the cost. Silver left me feeling way unimpressed. Two stars for this place: one star for the nice ambience, another star for allowing me to get a side of fries despite not having a sides/à la carte section on the menu to order from. It’s a shame because the inside is so beautiful… but looks can be deceiving, I guess.

These folks are off to a good start. The Korean-style short rib tacos were just fantastic – crunchy and meaty and just full of interesting flavors. The Brussels sprouts looked like a train-wreck on paper – cinnanon, Chipotle something-or-other, etc. – but they were great. And while there isn’t much competition, they may become the #1 craft cocktail bar in the area. One drink mixed applejack, red vermouth, and allspice dram – another trainwreck on paper that worked really beautifully. I saw at least 10 bottles of liqueurs and booze there is no economic rationale to stock – Crème De violette, Herbsaint, yellow Chartreuse, Monkey Shoulder whiskey. These folks just seem to be authentically committed to the cocktail craft. Looking forward to more eats and drinks.

This is an upscale diner that delivers – I don’t mean delivers to your home, I mean delivers on the plate. The dishes tend to be classics but with a modern twist. For example I had meatloaf, but it was bison, not beef. Very tasty and well prepared, the best thing is it tasted just like beef. Others had salmon, scallops and steak and all were pleased. The apple pie a la mode was just ordinary, and kind of messy, with pie and crust and ice cream spread all over the plate, more like a crumble than a pie. There is also a very fine bar program with hand-crafted cocktails and wines by the glass. Service was both good and bad. When guests were very late, the kind person at reception held our window booth at a busy time till everyone arrived. This was so nice! The waiter on the other hand mumbled and brought things out of order. A bus boy slipped and hit his head on the corner of our booth, the pace here is too frenzied. The waiter also overcharged me for a wine I didn’t order — I noticed this after I left. There is a customer service number on the receipt, so I will be attempting to adjust this long-distance. Stay tuned for a report.

Love! Love! Love! This is part of the same chain as Silver Diner, but this is the upscale /nicer version. They have many of the same menu items as Silver Diner, but also have some nicer stuff added to it. The food was fantastically delicious! I LOVED the cinnamon chipotle crispy brussel sprouts with pecans, apricots, and cranberries and the wild scallops with spinach, feta, cilantro, and lemon. The service was top-notch — above average in professionalism and promptness. Very well-trained and experienced staff. Prices weren’t too bad. I felt like we got what we paid for in terms of quality and quantity in both food and service. I hope they will open another Silver location in Dulles.

I really wanted to like this place. It’s one of the very few late night places in bethesda, it has nice outdoor seating, and many local organic options. The makes for something truly amazing. Hopefully they’ll step their game up and it soon will be amazing. But right now, it’s far from it. We started off ordering a few drinks. It took around 15 – 20 minutes for them to arrive at our table. I’m taking a glass of wine and an Old Fashioned — nothing intricate. It was around 10:30pm and not crowded at all, so this didn’t make much sense. My friend ordered a neat whiskey and it arrived with a huge ice cube in it. We asked the waiter to change it and we’re pretty sure that he just removed the ice cube and poured the whiskey into another glass. It was pretty watered down and much lighter(in color) than when my friend ordered it the second time around. Pretty annoying when you’re paying to have a certain type of drink experience(which is not a watered down one). We ordered food which took forever to come out and our check was done incorrectly and had to be fixed. Despite the awful service, I will say that everyone working there was extremely nice and the food was not bad. But service often makes or breaks a place.

great restaurant. If you are ever in bethesda and are in need of a meal this should be your first stop. Pros: great food, great options for any food cravings. they have a flexitarian options so you can stay on any diet or lifestyle without sacrificing flavor or taste. locally used produce and meats so always fresh. cons: can’t think of any. maybe that there is never any street parking in front of the restaurant because everyone is always there. also if you have been to the silver diner it is not the same but I still love both places.

Respectable for an «upscale» Silver Diner. The milkshake stole the show. I had the Heath shake and it tasted like a Heath bar! I also had the crazy mac and cheese with the egg on top. The portion was small but delicious!

On my first visit to Silver, we were cheerfully greeted right at the door and seated immediately. Initially, they seated us at a two-top pretty close to a large corner table(I have worked in restaurants, I would have sat us at the two-top as well, so this didn’t even phase me) but they actually came back and offered us the table to the right so there’d be a bit more room when the food came. I thought that was very thoughtful considering we hadn’t even noticed, and I appreciated it. For drinks(special occasion = lunch drinks) we each got a mimosa. My mom picked the grapefruit mimosa and I chose pineapple. Let’s just say I think I’m only ever making mimosas with pineapple juice from now on :). It was a good size drink, and really well balanced. Props to the bartender! Often when I’ve ordered mimosas out, the bubbly is… not so bubbly. In this case it seemed to have come straight out of a freshly opened bottle. Delish. This makes me want to try the other cocktails. For food, I ordered the chicken club(you had me at avocado) and my mom got the chicken pot pie. Because she loves me, she let me try a bite and oh man, it was really good. Comforting, filling, delicious. My chicken sandwich was pretty good, taller than it is wide so difficult to eat… but a yummy mess nonetheless. My only drawback on the sandwich was the chicken was a little on the dry side. However, the flavors were great. My fries were cut and fried well, and I really enjoyed my meal! The service started out really strong, but we got forgotten about after our meal came. I’m sure everyone’s still learning and working on their routines, so hopefully this is working it’s way in a positive direction. I’ll for sure still be back, can’t wait to try more bites and cocktails from the menu!

A friend and I were really craving some diner food, but something a bit more fancy. Silver is basically a «fancier» version of The Silver Diner. This restaurant does have a free parking garage located right across the street. The outdoor seating area is very welcoming, for the cold weather each table has a few heat lamps to keep you warm. The interior of the restaurant was not bad, I may have just had higher expectations for this restaurant. As my friend and I entered, we were awkwardly greeted(kinda) by the host. She gave us a funny look and handed the menus to the other host. Who just kinda started walking without saying anything to us. We arrived at our booth and she kinda just stood there for a few seconds without saying anything. Then proceeded to tell us «enjoy your meal.» A bit strange. The menus are on a quite large piece of paper. So of course I’m expecting a good amount of options to be present on the menu. I’m not sure if it was because it was dinner time(we arrived around 8:00pm) but there was not a lot to choose from. We were then greeted by our waiter, Evan. He was a very friendly waiter, except I was a bit overwhelmed and uninterested when he decided to give us a tutorial on the menu. His lecture lasted about 4 minutes and proceeded to try to convince us to order food he really liked. I understood he is most likely forced to do that, but toning it down would help. For an appetizer, I ordered the edamame-white bean hummus. I have to say I was IMPRESSED. I was nervous because of the edamame but it turned out being absolutely delicious. Served with 3 pieces of pita bread, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Amazing. For my entrée, I ordered the Artichoke Caesar Salad. I didn’t expect anything to fancy, but it was actually a lot better than most places. I can’t quite explain why it was this good, but it was. Despite the awkward staff. The food here is quite desirable.

Went there for a work lunch. Wasn’t sure what to expect as the«upscale» version of Silver Diner, but was pleasantly surprised with the vibe, service, and food. I would recommend the Chicken Pot Pie, as long as you’re okay with it being deconstructed. I normally prefer having an actual pie to dig into for those crispy edges, but two pastries were a nice alternative to the soggy bottom of normal pot pies. Also, if you’re anti-mushroom like me you can exclude them(another plus of the deconstructed version). I also got a taste of the Short Rib Ragu with Pappardelle Noodles, super tasty and savory. Even my co-worker who never finishes her meal left her plate spotless. Good to know this is here, will likely return because it’s so close to work.

So impressed. Order the chicken pot pie! So flavorful. Great interpretation on a classic. Also, get the brussels sprouts! Love the apricots in it. The bruschetta is amazing. They give you so much goat cheese and the tomatoes with pesto/balsamic is to die for. Also love the décor and service. Will definitely become a regular here.

When Silver opened, they invited Honest Tea to join them for breakfast to try what they have to offer. Since I didn’t pay for my meal, I can’t speak to the price, but the actual food was good. They had a wide range to choose from and I finally settled on the Caramel French Toast. It was great tasting French Toast and more than enough for one person(They give you six slices of French Toast!). One thing to note is that the caramel part of it is in the syrup and not on top of the French Toast. Another plus is they try to source all local food. Their coffee is from DC’s very own coffee shop, Compass Coffee, and it’s very good!

Granted, I’ve only stopped here for breakfast, but after reading some of the negative reviews, I was floored. Whatever issues this place had when it first opened definitely seemed to have been worked out. The service was attentive, and although we had a large party, everyone was well taken care of. My meal was incredible as well — Roasted Veggie huevos rancheros. It had great flavor and really blended the traditional huevos rancheros with roasted fall vegetables without one aspect of the dish being lost in the other. Everything seemed reasonably priced as well. I wouldn’t say eat here for breakfast every day, but it’s definitely a great spot for a casual brunch or breakfast meeting in Bethesda.

What in the world… I feel like I just wasted my whole night and I’m still hungry :(. Went here for a special event geared towards introducing people to the new late night spot in downtown Bethesda and left feeling like I need to keep looking. First sign of trouble was walking up to the place and asking some exiting diners how was the food. They responded«meh, it was okay». That should have bee a red flag. Second sign of trouble was after the host seated us in a booth and we waited and waited and waited for someone to at least give us waters. Plenty of waiters and staff walked by but no one cared to notice or greet us. We even stopped two people to ask if they knew who are server was and they never came back. After becoming beyond frustrated, my friend walked up to the hostess station to notify them. One of the managers came and assigned us to Jenny. She is the ONLY reason for one star. Jenny was awesome and recommended a few things to my indecisive behind but the food just fell flat. The crispy brussels sprouts lacked the crisp and were overshadowed by the apricots and cranberries and the ranch sauce confused everything. My friend had the chimichurri chicken wings and they were interesting but nothing life changing. For entrees my friend had the philly steak skillet and I had the caramel French toast. My friend didn’t seem to care much for his skillet but aye it out of starvation. My french toast was overwhelmingly dry bread that possibly was too thick or not truly soaked in the egg and now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t think there was any caramel on the plate. I had half a slice and was over it. We talked to Jenny about the brussels sprouts and she encouraged us to try something different. I decided to go for the angus sliders. I guess the cooks wanted me to try different temps on the sliders because one was medium and the other was well done. I was beyond over at this point and just wanted this food nightmare to be over. Silver has been open about a month and I understand it takes time to get things right(customer service and food taste, quality and consistency) but this was just ridiculous. It’s like they don’t have a clue… except Jenny who really, really tried. Update: My friend complained of an upset stomach on the drive back and just texted saying his meal decided to exit where it entered :(

The big brother of the Silver Diner empire, Silver, offers a new take on some classic diner fare. The restaurant’s décor is art deco, very reminiscent of Ted’s Bulletin in style. Counter seatng is limited(two sets of six), with most of the seating being booths and small tables, as well as a fairly large outdoor seating area along Woodmont. The staff here is much friendlier and attentive than at the Silver Diner locations, as well it should be, given the restaurant’s price point. I had the Southwest Chicken sandwich, which was a chicken breast on a ciabatta roll that didn’t seem particularly fresh, garnished with pepper jack cheese, avocado, and some ‘rocket greens’(what the Brits call arugula), along with a small side of thin-cut fries(warm, not hot). The sandwich and a club soda came to a few pennies shy of $ 15, making for a fairly expensive lunch once the tip’s added in and considering both the size of the serving and that the sandwich itself wasn’t particularly remarkable. I’m glad I tried Silver out, but given the quality of the food and the price point, I think this restaurant falls into that category where, if a friend says, «How about Silver?», you’d go, but it wouldn’t necessarily come to mind if you were choosing a place yourself.

Went to check out the newest addition to downtown Bethesda for brunch. Overall, i was very impressed. Service was great, food was great, and the menu is reasonably priced. I had a breakfast omlett with panchetta and peppers, and my friend had a bowl of the crab soup. Perfect for a cold rainy day. My only slight criticism is that i found it odd that only certain menu items had calorie counts and nutrition info. I would rather have everything have that information, or nothing… Will definitely be back — to try the regular lunch and dinner menu!
