Average Asian food 101. It gets tricky when you’re debating between Ruby Thai Kitchen, Panda Express and Sarku Japan in Montgomery Mall. They all pretty much offer very average food but if you’re craving for any sort of Asian, you’re left with little choices. Btw, Shanghai Bao and the new Korean BBQ place around the corner of the food court offer a different Asian variety. Ruby Thai over-fry and over-grease a lot of their menu items. It’s a good thing if you’re craving good hearty Asian food. For instance their noodles are comparable to Panda Express, their grilled chicken has a little bit more fat, and their salt & pepper fish were highly salted. Talk about hearty! So if you’re looking for a hearty(and filling) Asian-ish meal, Thai kitchen definitely beats Panda Express and not-real-stir-fry Sarku Japan. Otherwise Panda Express does a better job of hiding the grease, while Sarku Japan cook everything in watery oil, so it gives you the illusion it’s healthier. Average Asian food 101 commences.

The food is okay. I tried to substitute lo mein noodles for fried rice and wasn’t able to get that accomplished. Kind of disappointed, because the noodles looked really good!

After getting food samples at Montgomery Mall, I decided to get Ruby Thai Kitchen for lunch. I got Barbecue Chicken with lo mein and steamed vegetables. The chicken was sweet, tasty, and tender. There was too much lo mein in the to-go box. The lo mein was a bit on the oily side. I loved the variety of vegetables. The vegetables could have been steamed a little bit longer. After paying, you get a loyalty punch card!
