I’m a 43 year old independent business man/daily commuter and I usually walk right by the African man handing out The Express newspaper at the Ballston metro. Although it was MLK Jr. day — my office does not abide to federal holiday policy — so I took the paper that day. I was surprised to see a headline«New bagel joint in Arlington, VA opening!» Frequently, I travel to my New York(NY) office so I have a particular taste for bagels. Not that I’m a snob, but i know an Einstein bagel from an Upper East Side delicacy. I was riding down Glebe(I bike to the metro) and saw«Booeymonger»(which appeared to be an upscale laundry mat) until I realized wait that is the same bagel joint I read in the Express days prior! Unlike most establishments in Arlington there was no bike rack to be found so unfortunately I had to chain my 21-gear to the handicap parking sign for one of the only TWO small parking spots in front of Booeymonger. I found the interior yellow theme irritable which I understood from my undergrad classes in psych(Rutgers U 2009 — Go Scarlet Knights!(Masters at Marymount, which is nearby FYI)) One, the menu was enormous but the writing was so tiny I felt as a decipherer must have during hieroglyphic translations. Amongst the confusion caused by the small writing I went back to my roots — my mother put BECs on toasted warm bagels(ie; bacon egg and cheese) so I thought to go with my heart, if you will. Soon, I was ready, only to find that both of the oversized cash registers were unmanned. How can you make any money without people on the registers? After hollering for help a boy who looked no older than 13 scurried over to the register from behind, and apologized in broken English that he had been filleting raw chicken thighs and had his headphones in. Okay just a bit about me, I’m not the most hygienic guy in the world or even in DC, but the child didn’t even wash his hands and there was no Purcell in site, whatever I was starting to run late and needed to get my food pronto. I ordered a BEC on sesame(meaning sesame bagel) and a small coffee. Uh oh, two things problems here. The young register attendant said they only had plain and everything. Weird right? Sesame is on an everything bagel yet they don’t have that? They could have a poppy bagel too! Or garlic even. Problem 2: the boy said there isn’t a bacon egg and cheese on the menu — which caused me to begin flailing and tossing about my bike helmet. The boy calmed me down with a water cup and said, that there was plenty of sesame on the everything bagel and the BEC was called the«Chicken Little» where did this name come from? Sure not the ingredients(well okay the egg, but still bacon is not chickennn!!) So I paid with a discover card, which, oddly is the only major credit card they accept there –something with their system. The boy gestured to the coffee station where I poured my own coffee(okay should I clock in as well? Lol) and informed me my food was to be picked up on the opposite side of the restaurant — inconvenient — in 3 minutes. There were 5 potential coffee pots to fill from, one was booey cinnamon which I’m allergic to, two were empty and one was dented so I guess it’s Decaf! «Ahhhh! I exclaimed» The coffee squirted out and scalded my wrist. In defense of the coffee pot I was being aggressive due to experience this far. 3 minutes was up, still no bagel. I started looking around frantically only to see the 4 chefs out front smoking cigs and playing a sidewalk game which looked to be jacks or marbles. With no gloves on! Also, weird I didn’t notice them as they were playing right beside my bike. I bring this to the boys attention and at first he shrugs me off but i gave him a look… let’s say he understood that time and he sprinted outside and started shouting at the eldest chef. The visibly disgruntled chef threw his cig at my Schwinn and meandered by me and into the kitchen saying something in Mexican«Cinqo Minutos or something» As I’m waiting I sip from the mediocre coffee — aside from the yellow cup’s awful design that burned my tongue on several times(but I guess you could chalk that up to user error). I was running late at this point so I yanked the food out of the elderly chefs UNGLOVEDHAND. He left his hand out for a tip but I exclaimed No pesos senior. I refused to stay in this restaurant, good thing I’m quite the cyclist(trying to compete 3 triathlons this year) so I decided to eat on the go. On my way to my bike I had to shoo the group of chefs away to which they started to hiss at me. I removed the packaging only to find a sausage egg and cheese. To which I threw the sandwich at traffic in disgust. To top off this morning, there was a freaking cop behind me that tried to write a ticket for littering. After explaining my story he figured the punishment had already fit the crime. time served. Long story short, there’s a Bob Evans adjacent to this place where you should go instead.

Amazing fast and good customer service. Best breakfast for a good price in Bethesda. I suggest the boeys platter. Lunch is a bit over priced but very good.

Let me preface this review with the fact that I LOVE Booeymonger. I have been to several locations in the District since high school(nearly ten years ago). However, this particular location in Bethesda is horrible. Not only is the food subpar but the customer service is atrocious. I’ve actually never had a manger yell in my face before today. I work in the area so I visit this location almost every weekday. My usual order is toast and one boiled egg. However, I started requested my toast«well done» because they would toast it very lightly. Well, today I got burnt toast. When I pointed this out to a manager(Alicia or Felicia, I believe) she told me this was the«well done» option. I also realized my boiled eggs were served cold, nearly frozen. When I tried to voice my complaints, the manager told me I was a «problem customer» and that I had problems with my food nearly everyday.(This isn’t true. I only pointed out my concern over my toast once before, and I continued visiting every day afterwards) She became vocal with me, in front of customers(which was humiliating for me) and told me that she’s glad I won’t be back because I’m so «problematic». She also indicated that the cashier(Maria) tells her that I’m never satisfied, which basically makes me feel like they just gossip about customers as a whole. I’ve never had such a poor experience over toast and one boiled egg. Who serves cold eggs?! I specifically asked them to be heated too, since it’s happened before. Over all, I had to call ANOTHER manager to log my complaint. I won’t ever return to this location and after sharing my experience with coworkers, they’ve decided not to do the same. Piss poor customer service, terrible attention to detail. This is one Booeymonger I won’t ever step food in again.

I;d give this no stars if I could. I ordered the hummus sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes, and whatever. I even asked if I could have an extra dab of hummus. The sandwich had so little hummus on it that it wasn’t worth the money. It was basically a tomato/lettuce sandwich — very disappointing.

I eat lunch here probably 4 days a week. The food is consistently decent and priced well. The staff is friendly. A good informal neighborhood restaurant. I usually order the chicken salad or tuna on rye, both of which are good.

Loving the shrimp salad sandwich, potato wedges, and gyro. I like how they are also open for dinner even though they’re more of a lunch place as I work close by and sometimes need to grab a snack!

There are certain things that Booeymonger does really well and others that I am not a fan of. One thing that this sandwich shop does well is the tuna melt. It’s not on the menu, but if you ask for a tuna melt on french bread roll you get a very good tuna sandwich. All the sandwiches can be customized. Miami Burger is very good. It’s a bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, tomatoes and lettuce. The chili is also pretty good. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu. My favorites are those three. I don’t order anything else. I like the location(close to the vamoose bus and just down the street from the tripper.) This place is great if you need something to go very quickly that you can just grab and take with you on the bus to New York. Overall this is an ok place.

This is my go-to place for breakfast in downtown Bethesda. Yes, they serve the food on foam plates. Yes, the décor is nothing to write home about. However, the staff is extremely friendly, accommodating, and competent. The restaurant is very clean. The food is always solidly good, and the price is right. What’s not to like?

This joint has got the area locked down on egg salad sandwiches. When I first moved to the area this place was one of the first places I visited, on the recommendation of a few friends. Nice service, fast, clean, tasty food. Not sure what else one could be looking for in a sub shop.

I’ve used them twice for catering and have eaten at the Bethesda location once. I’ve had nothing but great experiences with Booeymongers. The food is yummy and has always been fresh and on time. They have always followed-up with me after catering to make sure everything is acceptable.

About 8 years ago I went on my first ever date here. Romantic right!!! #highschool… But anyways it actually was pretty successful venue considering I still think back fondly to my sandwich– The Georgetowner. Perfect sandwich on a big French baguette with turkey and avocado and alfalfa sprouts. And a whoooole lot of mayo. Mayo-haters: stay away! Mayo-lovers like myself: this is a dream come true!!!

Average deli with a selection of breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Tried the Fifth Avenue sandwich with pastrami and mushrooms and the chicken cheese steak. Both sandwiches were fresh and tasted ok but something that I wouldn’t come back for again. Location is great and they also serve alchohol but other than that, I’d say it’s just ok.

Fresh, ok. Tasty? Ummm, it’s ok. Choices for vegetarians? Ummm… Low variety, standard fare, but not vegan friendly. Plus, if you forget part of my order, I can’t give a good review. Avocados seem to be the to to veg item here for anything of substance aside from bread products. Still, even with those and maybe hummus for the ho-hum palate, there is little of nutritional delight and value here. The tossed salad is the only pure veg option, as all else is with dairy or meat. I would suggest a further stroll down the street into downtown for a real meal with real health benefits. If low flavor and nutrition are your goal, this place is fine.

Booeymonger Restaurant is in a great location, especially if you want to grab food right before you hop on the Vamoose bus. For breakfast, I ordered the Chicken Little on a toasted and buttered everything bagel for $ 4.75. I’ll probably hold off on the butter next time. They were rather generous with the butter. The Chicken Little was pretty much your basic breakfast bagel sandwich with egg, bacon, and cheese. I know chickens lay eggs, but it would have been nice if this sandwich came with a piece of chicken instead of the egg and bacon. Nonetheless I still enjoyed my breakfast sandwich while on the bus. Service was friendly and my sandwich, which was made to order, came out rather quickly.

The food is ok; I usually used to go for the breakfast, which is their best. The coffee is great when it’s hot. They don’t know the difference between toast and warm bread. Oatmeal toppings are lame, only sugar and raisins. Other than that, the breakfast sandwiches are tasty and big and at a decent price. Lots of options, although I have only had breakfast. Service is disappointing. Employees are impatient and not happy to be there. Won’t be going back after the lady snapped at me for asking for hot coffee because the coffee in the self-serve thermos was NOT hot.

Had not been to booey in maybe 10 years. Used to come often when I worked in area. Wish they had one closer to where I live.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaan… I have a love hate relationship with booey and it started off with hate. It wasn’t until I got their salads did I start falling for them. Booey is like a lover that doesn’t want to be tied down. You are attracted to it, for whatever reason. For me, it was because it is very close to my job. Then finally you approach and experience them and they do something you REALLY didn’t like… like putting SPICYMUSTARD on a damn burger. Soooooooooo gross. Not to mention I was very upset because of a burger craving left unsatisfied. But then the next time you encounter them– because as a sensible human, you often give things second chances– they WOW you! Soooooooooo much chicken in that chicken Caesar salad! And then they wow you again. That Booey wrap is amazing! And their potato wedges? Swoon! And then you are impressed! And then, lo and behold, they do something tragic that turns you off for a week or two. You swear them off, but you find yourself lured to them somehow again. That is my relationship with Booey. Right now, we are on pretty good terms. =)

I came here with a friend to grab dinner before class. My friend got the 5th avenue(hot pastrami, grilled mushrooms, melted muenster cheese with mustard on a French baguette) while I got the Californian(homemade breast of chicken salad, fresh avocado and alfalfa sprouts on 7 grain), since I’m a sucker for all things with avocado and California in the name. The portions were pretty generous so we split halves and I got to try each. The chicken salad in the Californian was too heavy on the mayo and also not well seasoned, and the richness was too much for me when combined with all that avocado. The 5th avenue was greasy, heavy, and a tad too salty. Service was quick. We got our food within 5 minutes of ordering, which is good because we were in a hurry. But the sandwiches overall were mediocre.
