I’m not sure what is going on with Bernards Café, but quality has slipped some recently. The kids meals are a crap shoot. Their Mac and cheese used to be homemade — tonight it was Kraft. The chicken finger meal had two of the smallest chicken fingers, and would leave any kid older than 3 starving. Hamburgers are still safe, and their regular sandwiches are good. They do tend to forget things or just get things messed up when you do take out, so check your bags carefully. It’s priced fairly, provided you get a couple of additional nuggets and homemade mac and cheese. Three stars because of past good experience, but if things don’t get better if will drop to 2.

Very puny sandwich for 8.83. Come hungry, leave hungry. I feel violated and will go elsewhere as you should too

I love that they deliver! I have had multiple items from their large(almost stressful) menu, and I have yet to be disappointed! Reasonable prices for the amount of food you’re getting. The hashbrowns are awesome and so are the fries! The chicken cesar wrap is great too! The delivery is always in a reasonable amount of time. I have dined in and out, and will continue to do so! I love Bernards Café!

big menu. big portions. not-so-big prices. sounds good right? bernards café has been a staple lunch option for many folks working in the area. there aren’t too many decently-priced options in the area with menus large enough to appease a variety of palates. from huge sloppy-joe deli sandwiches, to large loaded salads, a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, soups, sides… it’s hard not to default to bernards café. even though the quality of the ingredients is definitely lacking. make sure to have them read back your order if placing it over the phone– they tend to forget requests like«and a side of bbq sauce» or «with onions» or «extra dressing» or «no cheese». if you’re picking up– check your bag before you leave to make sure everything’s set. they often fail to provide napkins, utensils, etc. too. order pick-up for lunch is okay– service is typically rushed, no frills. parking can be difficult in the area, so be prepared. delivery was never much of a problem until the last time my coworkers and i placed an order. i spoke to a very nice gentleman over the phone, placed our order, got the total– wonderful. as my company’s complex is HUGE, i gave my cell number so that the driver could call when they were close — this way i could start walking down to our visitor center/front desk to meet them and save them some time. however, this didn’t happen– no call from the driver. i received the call from the security desk once the delivery driver arrived and left my desk no more than a minute later to walk down. upon handing over the money, the delivery-woman snapped at me, saying«i was about to leave, i have other things to do, you know?!» and stormed away. she’s lucky this took place in the lobby of a corporate office building, and also after she already had our money(including a large, undeserved tip) in hand. …in case you’re interested, that order was missing a requested side of bbq sauce, a side of chips that was supposed to come with a sandwich, and napkins and utensils. i’m sure you can guess why bernards café loses a star in my book, as well as loses my business.

We picked up an order and oh boy was their antipasto delicious. I don’t usually order salads but I had already eaten a small snack so I figured I’d give it a try. The presentation was beautiful, everything tasted very fresh, and they really packed it in there to get your money’s worth. Although as usually happens with takeout salads, there was not enough dressing for even half of this salad, and I forgot to order extra. Luckily Italian dressing is easy to come by so I’ll enjoy the rest of my salad tomorrow! Their menu looked so great and unique I certainly would like to try this place again. I’m eyeing their panini menu next. My boyfriend frequently gets the ahi tuna and he loves it.

Huge menu. I live in town and have yet to have a bad meal at this spot. I have some favorites but that doesn’t stop be from from trying something new when I go. If you’ve never been here it is very much like a diner, but with more style and cleanliness.

Place is fairly decent. Nice alternative to a diner. What bothers me though is that if you order deliver they hit you with a ton of surcharges. I had a delivery charge, packaging charge, and an online order charge. It totaled an additional $ 5-$ 7. Then I had to tip the kid. I would go there for eating in, but the delivery costs are inconsistent with standard delivery practices and completely arbitrary.

We are passing through for a family wedding and we had a chance to grab breakfast at the Bernard’s Café. My kids love café breakfast places and this is one that stacks up well to many we have visited. The service is quick, coffee is good and the menu includes our favorites like pancakes, eggs Benedict and eggs and bacon. We recommend this place, it was very good

Came here for a late lunch last week around 3pm with my dad, he got some sort of French dip type sandwich and I got a turkey wrap. The price for the food is pretty good, and the food was good as well. The only that that bothered me was that I have a milk allergy which I informed to my waitress and she said that they would accomidate me but I ended up having an allergic reaction anyways. Also the menu is immense, big menus tend to mean that a lot of their food is premade/frozen.

Never let down whenever I come here. Almost come here everyday for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Have tried just about everything on the menu, and everything is great! Today I came for breakfast and I ordered an omelette that consisted of alvacado, asparagus, and broccoli with cheese. Freshly made meals all the time and is the hidden gem in the Bernardsville area.

Heard about this place from my husbands boss so we took a ride out today. It was pretty busy even though it was later in the afternoon. We were seated quickly & our waitress was friendly and sweet. I had French onion soup(my fave!) and my husband had lobster bisque. It was loaded with chunks of lobster, he really enjoyed it. Next I had the southwest steak salad. It was a huge serving & had to bring it home. The steak was really tender & had great flavor. Husband had a Cuban sandwich which he said was very tasty and despite being tempted by dessert, finished the sandwich instead. Perhaps dessert next time!

Stay away. The quality has gone downhill. Check out my photos of mud in the lettuce on my sandwich and the rotten avocado on my spouse’s avocado BLT.

The food and service here is amazing. It’s a pretty small place so they’re also very quick with the food prep so you’re in and out quickly.

This place was really busy. The food that was near the cook all looked amazing. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak wrap and it left alot to desire. It was not good at all. I think i would only come back here because the staff were all nice and moving as fast as they could for people.

We ate lunch here on our drive home. We all enjoyed our meals, and I’d recommend the California BLT(yum avocado!). We had to park down the street and walk up to the restaurant but it was worth it. Looks like a popular place for sandwich take out, If I lived closer I’d go back again.

The menu here is EXTENSIVE(we’re talking like… multiple pages of food). With so many menu options, it’s hard to believe that they can produce quality food, but they do! I’ve had everything from Burgers to omelette’s to wraps and sandwiches and everything is a consistently high quality. I recommend the California BLT– typical BLT but with thick pieces of bacon on deliciously toasted bread– sliced avocado make it ‘Californian’. Yum yum yum. Definitely a great place to stop in for lunch.

This upscale diner offers an enormous selection and serves enormous portions. The menu just goes on for pages and pages, it’s overwhelming and includes about every variation of sandwich I’ve ever seen: burgers, veggie burgers, subs, panini, sloppy joe, Italian etc. Only thing missing is a torta :) Also many salads and pasta options. We tried several daily specials, all were better than the average diner but none were especially gourmet. A spinach salad with grilled salmon was excellent, very fresh greens plus grilled pineapple, fresh cut apple and nuts. The beef sandwich was two large pieces of Italian bread heaped with meat, plus a large side of fries, a pickle and a bowl of au jus. Chicken pot pie came with a salad that was a meal in itself, and the pot pie was generous. Wraps were a bit charred on the outside and thickly stuffed with chicken and other goodies. When we visited the Bernards Café’s for lunch we unfortunately had too little time that day, but our waitress happily expedited our order. And the staff cheerfully wrapped up our bountiful leftovers. The service is definitely solid here. Prices ranged from about $ 8 for a standard sammich to $ 13 for the daily sandwich special, like roast beast. That is a bit on the high side, but that seems to be the same price all day and they’re clearly delivering value by giving lots of food. I have to say that it was way too much food at midday. But there is a lunch menu(served until 4pm) that we were too much in a rush to notice: the«lite lunch choice» at $ 8.95 gets you half a sandwich and a bowl of soup, or half a salad and a half a sandwich, etc. That’s the best option if you can’t take a nap immediately after leaving here LOL!
