Typical music chain store. Large selection, typically overpriced. Lots of cds, dvds, accessories, and an ok selection of new records. I’d prefer to support one of the locally owned stores personally, suchas UHF or Streetcorner in the area.

This place has a wide selection of new and used DVDs, blu-rays, CDs and vinyl — all reasonably priced. They also carry an extensive variety of audio accessories, t-shirts, keychains, toys… all sorts of odd & interesting stuff. The last time I was in, I purchased a piggy bank of Cesar Romero as The Joker. Who expects to walk into an entertainment store and find that? Also, it took every bit of will power I have to NOT buy at least half of the shirts they had for sale. It’s just a cool place to peruse and the staff are always helpful and friendly.

Its just okay. 1st the Praise! The gal that was working on Monday −2−23−15, was Super Outgoing, Kind & Helpful. The store I thought was very old & tired. Plus it was pricey, not many deals to be had. I had a $ 15 gift card, that I found at home, that was issued years ago. And they honored it, but I had a hard time finding anything that I truly wanted-desired.

For a corporate chain store, this place is okay. I like going here when I need an immediate music fix and don’t want to wait 3 – 10 days for things to show up from online shopping. Prices here are average to a little high, and compared to most stores these days, the selection of new CDs is quite good, particularly in the pop/rock, rap, and r&b. You won’t find anything super-unique here, but if you’re looking for perennial favorites, mainstream-ish new releases, and popular back –catalog releases, this place has you covered. On the used CD front, it’s more of mixed bag. I usually will dig through the used bin when they are having one of their sales and try to find 4 – 5 discs I want. Since all their used CDs are shrinkwrapped, I always insist on checking the discs before I buy them, to the annoyance of certain employees here. Some of the discs, especially the ones that are shipped in from«corporate», inevitably end up being trashed, so I don’t buy them. The vinyl section is a bit of mess honestly. I don’t know why stores continue to take LPs that are roughed up but I guess it has to do with increased demand from the hipster vinyl trend. When I looked through the used records, there were about a half dozen LPs I would’ve gladly bought had they been clean. Instead, all the records I looked at were littered with scratches or had gouges in them. Not good. There are new LPs here, but the prices are on the high side of average. $ 24.99 or $ 34.99 for an LP that I can have shipped to my door for $ 20 or less is not competitive pricing. Again, if you need your fix now and can’t wait, and you’re willing to pay a premium, then knock yourself out. I will say that the store took back a defective, warped LP I bought new there with very little hassle, which is unlikely to happen at most indie record stores these days.

This is my newest discovery for music and movies and it’s easy to love this place. I’ve been to Flipside and I wasn’t blown away since it’s so cramped and a little disheveled but FYE is pretty spacious and easy to navigate. I was actually in search of Blue Crush for a birthday gift(I know, it’s easily the most cinematic movie ever made ;) and I was turning up nada everywhere locally. Of course Amazon and eBay had it but I needed it quickly. Meijer, Target(s), even Best Buy didn’t stock it so on a whim and a stab in the dark I came to FYE. I was totally blown away that they not only had it but they also had a used copy for a fraction of the cost. Other cool things that vibed at this place: playing in the background was Daft Punk’s new album, they had some great rock n’ roll calendars and they have a ton of movies new and used for über cheap. It’s definitely worth a looksee if you’re in the market for a hard copy of anything FYE.

Am a big fan of this place. They still stock a reasonable selection of cd’s and movies, even some records, at reasonable enough prices. The staff is super helpful, and can lead you to whatever they don’t stock, even if it is an import. I know that I can find this stuff on amazon, but usually, when it comes to music, I am a creature of instant gratification. So glad that I am close enough to enjoy a great store like this on a regular basis.

this place stole my heart with $ 4 tshirts. i nearly bought out the whole place, but i haven’t seen a sale like that since. anyways, i like this place a lot. the guy that always helps me(it’s always the same guy. eric?) is extremely helpful and nice. the cds there are VERY reasonably priced. rarely do i see a CD there that’s marked up more than i expected. in fact, i’m shocked to see how cheap some of these things are. just last week i got 6 CDs for under $ 30 including tax. the people that work there are pretty awesome. one time i got an empty case and they exchanged it for me, no problem. they also signed me up for a preorder i’d been wanting and made sure to call me about it when it came in. i’ve been using the discount card RELIGIOUSLY.

This FYE location was the last Harmony House left in Michigan. You music lovers in Michigan know what a big part of your music life. Harmony House was one of the last independent record chains around and this last location was ultimately sold off and became FYE. That being said, this is probably the best FYE I’ve been to. Still a fairly large selection of music(largest near me, by far). Unfortunately record stores seem to be a dying breed and I hope this can hang around a while. I give it 3 instead of 4 as the prices of new cds are on the high side, but every now and again they sell all single discs for $ 9.99, so keep an eye out for that!

When I was just a young fella, B.A.(before Amazon), there was this thing called a record store. The record store was a happening place full of first LPs and singles then CDs of various kinds of music. A good one would have abundant jazz, rock, R&B, classical and more. I had thought that the record store as I knew it had been rendered extinct — until tonight, when I walked into FYE. It was full of CD and, yes, vinyl jams from Perry Como to Eminem and everything in between. There were also DVDs of all kinds. FYE sells both new and used items. The staff seemed friendly and knowledgeable. As a musician, I actually prefer CDs and vinyl to MP3 downloads because most all MP3s are lossy(missing information). As a customer, the throwback stroll through the aisles that FYE is retro cool.

FYE on Woodward, otherwise known as the old Harmony House. The guys that owned the Harmony House in this location held on as long as they could and fought-off the corporate machine that rules our economy, but alas they could not hold on anymore and became an FYE. With that said, this is probably the best FYE around. They guys from the Harmony House are still here and still providing the same service as they did before the takeover. FYE has been hurt by the MP3 revolution and has adjusted their business accordingly; all single-disc CDs are $ 9.99. This is probably the only place that I go to buy a new CD these days. Their rock, rap, r&b, metal and soundtrack selections are quite good. Their jazz and classical selections though are lacking, and knowing what this store once was and what they use to carry, this is kind of sad. As far as vinyl goes, they completely stopped carrying vinyl at one point but have recently begun to carry a small selection of it again. I’m hoping that this selection will grow in the coming years and this store will once again return to the status it once had in the community. When this store was Harmony House, I would have had no qualms about giving it a five-star rating because of the amazing selections and customer service, as an FYE though, the most I can muster is a three-star rating.
