After hearing so much good about Urbann Turbann, I walked in expecting a delicious and fresh Indian-style Chipotle. I was pretty disappointed with it. I had the kabob naan wrap. The meat itself was decent. Just the rest of the toppings really lacked salt and had no flavor whatsoever. My friends also had wraps with tandoori and butter chicken. Both were disappointed as well.

Butter chicken and Pork vindaloo plate to-go. I basically got almost all the sauces. I enjoyed the sauce you pay for because it makes the flavors of the other sauces more mild since this is the only one that’s creamy. Like other reviewers have said, it’s all laid out in front of you, you just basically point at what you want. When I got home, the flavors all mixed in together, which I regret. It was difficult to figure out what I was eating. The pork was stronger in flavor than the chicken, but both meats were extremely flavorful. The chicken was a bit on the drier side, but since it was cut in small pieces, it wasn’t a big deal. Overall, the food was not too bad and even better because the portion is big — I had some leftovers for a second meal!

If Chipotle had an Indian baby, Urbann Turbann would be it! It has almost the same layout when ordering food, with naan instead of tortillas, butter chicken instead of carne asada, chutney instead of salsa… you get the drill. They have a great selection of fresh vegetables too, with mixed greens, romaine lettuce, cilantro, onions, cucumbers, etc. It adds a freshness that Indian food sometimes needs, since the meat and potatoes can be really hearty. I got a naan wrap with masala potatoes and butter chicken, and added romaine lettuce, cucumbers, and cilantro. I didn’t want to add any chutney because I’m not too bold with trying new foods, but the guy convinced me to try one, so I got the hot mint and cilantro one. It tasted great with the butter chicken, and cut through the mild flavor. The service was awesome, and the guy helping me out was super nice :) I’ll definitely be back to try more of their menu!

I’m usually pretty skeptical of Indian fusion food so I was hesitant to try this place. But I was pleasantly surprised by how well this concept worked out! My favorite order would have to be a paneer naan wrap — super generous portions and an all around satisfying lunch(+leftovers for dinner). If you want to splurge a bit try their mango lassi! A bit on the sweet side, but good nonetheless. Also don’t be intimidated by a long line during typical lunch hour — it moves quickly.

I was extremely obsessed with chipotle at one point but now I have found my new addiction, Urbann Turbann! I’ve never had indian food before but my boyfriend wanted me to try this place out and so I did. FOOD: If you decide to save your bowl for later I would recommend you have them put foil over your bowl so the bowl doesn’t get all soggy and deformed. The butter chicken is so so good. Just like chipotle you can ask for half half meat but I always get the butter chicken. They give you a ton of food, two scoops of chicken every time that I’ve been. If you’re debating whether to get the coconut. GETIT. It goes so well with the chicken. The portions are HUGE! Whenever I get the bowl, I can make 3 meals out of it. Everything tastes fresh at this location, and during lunch time it does tend to get packed with college students. However, don’t get discouraged because the line moves quick! SERVICE: Of all the times that I’ve been to Urbann Turbann, the service were all wonderful. Shout out to the guy with the gauges, he’s always there greeting customers with a smile and has a friendly vibe! Even thought it gets busy at times, they never try to rush your order unlike chipotle. PARKING: Meter parking in front however you can find 1 hour, 2 hour free parking around the corner of the restaurant. I’ve never had trouble looking for parking before!

Kind of like Chipotle, but with Indian food. So whether or not you like this place to some degree depends on how well you put your meal together. You have a choice of either a wrap or a bowl. I chose the bowl with Butter Chicken($ 7.36). It was decent and quite filling, but I would be hard pressed to consider it anything beyond 3 stars. I’m guessing that all 5 stars here are from stressed-out and sleep-deprived students who are happy just to have warm food in their stomach. The naan was pretty good though.

I think I’ve found my new favorite quick stop in Berkeley! Urbann Turbann blends two of my loves: the wonderful rich flavors of Indian food with the hearty, quick, economical meal that is Chipotle. And seriously, how can you NOT like a giant piece of naan stuffed to bursting with amazing food? I got half butter chicken and have tandoori chicken in a naan wrap and it was amazing. Definitely get the raita; it’s worth it for 50 cents extra. If you are sensitive to spicy food you may want to steer clear of some of the sauces since some are pretty spicy. You will definitely be satisfied; I was surprised at how heavy my wrap was and it lasted me about 1.5 meals(one full meal and a heavy snack). Can’t wait to come back!

The food here tastes GREAT. I got the vegan chickpea naan wrap, and it was perfectly spicy and savory. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was due to the awkward service from one of the employees here. He must be a new hire, but I had to tell him what I ordered about three times before he could ring me up. Extremely slow to give me change at the register.

Indian food meets Chipotle and my god, it’s good! This place took everything I love about Indian food and made it in convenient burrito format to keep hands clean and smell free(you know exactly what I’m talking about). You have your choice of naan, roti, rice, etc. and there are options for your protein from meat to vegetarian. There is a host of veggies you can add to your concoction as well. The sauces are all great including the hot tomato one and everything tastes super fresh. Service is friendly but there is limited seating in the actual establishment. One thing I’d have to say is that it tastes much better hot, so if you are thinking I’ll grab it and take it home, its not the same as eating right then and there.

It’s close to campus, the food’s highly portable and the prep time is pretty quick-ish, depending. Also, the servings are pretty sizable. Things to consider: 1) the last time went, the guy at the front of the production line couldn’t distinguish tandoori from butter chicken, even I repeated it to him while he was scooping the butter chicken onto my alleged tandoori wrap. His response to my cries and pleas? «Yes, tandoori.» 2) It’s pricey. Yes, the serving sizes are larger than next door at Dyar, but you pay for it. 3) It’s kinda corporate. Sure one of the guy’s has plugs of wood in his earlobes(a sure sign of orthodox free-thought if there ever was one), but still there’s a Stepford Wive’s vibe about the place. Addendum: I got a note over the weekend from the owner who states that that they are not a corporation. In fact they are«pretty much the antithesis of a corporate restaurant.» He even apologized for the confusion during my visit. I stand corrected. ha-update ha-gadol: So, this place has really grown on me. It’s a part of my regular rotation. It turns out that the«stepford wives» thing I mentioned above is just them being friendly. Weird for Berkeley, right? It just takes a little getting used to. I’m so used to enlightened, highly educated freedom fighters for truth and fill-in-the-blank justice treating me like shit and/or a security risk that it’s unnerving and totally suspect when people say something suspicious like«Hi» or «Please.» The verdict: a really high four stars. The prices, alas, have gone up recently, and my inner miser says a five star establishment would have better prices.

Not a big fan. I might have made a horrible combination or ordered the wrong thing but the food was subpar. I feel like the Kahari paneer although spicy was bland and didn’t have much sauce or flavor. Also they should really change the prices on the menu. On the menu it says $ 6 for the paneer but my bill came out to $ 8 I’m pretty sure that even with taxes it should have been less than $ 8 but who knows? If I ever go there again I should try chicken which everyone else seems to enjoy Update: the owner informed me that bill came out to $ 8 apparently the sauce I ordered was an extra $ 0.50 but the worker never informed me nor did I know since it was my first time eating there

Just like how everyone says, Urban Turbann is an Indian Chipotle. First you have an option of having it in a wrap or rice bowl. There are options of white basmati or brown rice. I like the white basmati because there are peas in it as well. Second you decide if you want potatoes and choose your protein, which includes chicken, pork, lamb, vegetarian options. Third, choose veggies. Fourth, choose sauces such as coconut, cilantro mint, tamarind. I’ve gotten the white basmati rice bowl with butter chicken, potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, coconut, and tamarind sauce. You can also ask for naan on the side but that costs $ 0.92. I’ve also gotten it in a wrap with pork vindaloo. Both meats are great! The butter chicken is tender, creamy, and flavorful. The pork vindaloo is reminiscent of carnitas but with Indian spices and flavors. However, I would suggest getting the pork in a bowl because it’s super juicy and the sauce drips, getting the wrap a little soggy. The portions are huge and I didn’t know you could do ½ of meat options so you can try more than one kind! Also, they’re closed on Sunday as many Northside restaurants tend to be. Definitely a great stop by for a delicious, filling meal!

I love this place! I can’t get enough of it. It’s a quick and easy restaurant, just like Chipotle, only Indian style. I love ordering their Butter Chicken Bowl and I love how they serve plentiful portions of vegetables and greens. They also put potatoes in your bowl, which I’m very happy about. The portions are pretty big. I can never finish one bowl in one sitting, so I always have some leftovers. I would love to come here all the time but I spend most of my time on the South Side of campus so it’s a little disappointing this place of goodness is all the way on the North Side. Lucky North Side residents!

Obviously this place isn’t «real» Indian food but it’s a great modern twist on traditional Indian cuisine. How it works: 1) Choose either naan, rice bowl, or bowl + naan 2) Decide if you want potatoes 3) Choose your protein: butter chicken, lamb, or tandoori chicken(you may ask for half and half) 4) Select your veggies! 5) Pick a sauce: Tamarind, cilantro, raita(Ask for extra tamarind!) Enjoy~! Urbann Turbann is simple yet delicious. For about $ 8-$ 9, you get a huge Indian wrap or rice bowl. Pro-Tip: If you get the wrap, don’t forget to grab a bunch of napkins and a fork. The wrap can get pretty messy to eat.

I’ve never really been a big fan of Indian food, but WOW!!! This place is amazing! If it was closer to me, I would probably be a regular there. There isn’t a sign in front of the store like the other places next to it so look at the windows for the name. I got a bowl with rice, potatoes, ½ tandoori chicken, ½ butter chicken, cucumbers, tomatoes, jalapenos, extra cilantro, and red and white sauces. The combination of flavors was SO good and even tasted good as leftovers. My friends got a burrito with the naan wrap and it was also delicious. While the bowl is delicious because of the different flavors in each bite, the burrito offers an amazing blend of all of the ingredients wrapped in chewy naan. SOMETIPS: The jalapenos are VERYVERYHOT. They give A LOT of meat. SOMUCHPROTEIN! Cardboard box for bowls is VERY flimsy and fragile. Because it is made from paper, it soaks up the juices from the tomatoes and sauces and leaks through the container. When I lifted the container, it started to RIP and fall apart. Stronger bowls would be nice! EDIT: If you’re taking your bowl to go, you can let them know and they will line your bowl with foil!

I really love Urbann Turbann! There are absolutely huge portions, and it’s definitely enough for two meals. The food is fairly authentic, and it definitely lives up to its reputation as an Indian Chipotle. There are a great number of vegetarian options, and the naan is absolutely wonderful. My non-vegetarian friend and I both enjoyed our experience. The chole was mild and yet extremely flavorful, while the overall flavor profile of the different chutneys definitely heightened the overall wrap. I was pleasantly surprised by the kale addition to the chole and I’ll definitely be returning.

Urbann turbann is everything that I want chipotle to be. The portion sizes are HUGE, you get what you pay for, and the ingredients are delicious! This is the place to go if you want an extra meal for the next day. Trust me when I say urbannn turbann is a gem. Eat well and propser

Chipotle meets Indian food; what could be better? Get a naan wrap(seriously why didn’t think exist before this place), my favorite filling is the butter chicken with organic mixed greens, and all the veggie fixings, with minty hot chutney on the inside. By the time they’re rolling these things, you start wondering if the wrap will fit in the foil, and by the time you unwrap the foil, you start wondering if the wrap will fit in your stomach. A valiant challenge, and absolutely delicious at that, especially if you like spicy, tasty, Indian food.

Probably four stars in reality, but I’m giving this five stars for the sake of my college student self. For the college kids, Urbann Turbann is a fantastic campus staple located on Euclid, next to the Engineering buildings. Here are all the reasons I think this place is awesome: 1) It’s the Chipotle of Indian food, done right. In other words: super customizable, not quite authentic Indian food in a variety of tasty and fast options. The naan wraps or bowls are both good(I usually decide based on how messy I’d like my meal to be at the moment). Plus, they let you pick«half and half» when it comes to protein choices(Chipotle doesn’t even let you do that!). They also let you trade the potatoes for other vegetables, which I always go for, since the potatoes are a bit heavy. The chutneys are tasty, and when I feel like treating myself, I’ll get raita(yogurt) for an extra 50 cents. The result: so many flavors, it’s amazing. 2) The prices are very reasonable, especially for a *lot* of food. 3) The line moves fast and staff is friendly and fun. Oh, but note that the place is tiny and there’s very little seating so be prepared to grab and go. 4) They do catering! If your student group needs catering for an event and pizza isn’t going to cut it, this place is a really good option: large plates of food at reasonable prices per person. Now that I’ve left Berkeley, I actually kind of miss this place. I really wish they would open a San Francisco shop and give Tava some competition.

Indian food, chipotle style. You can’t go wrong. However, the environment isn’t exactly like Chipotle. It’s a hole-in-the-wall sort of restaurant — where everything sort of looks out of place but magically fits together. I ordered the butter chicken rice bowl(they have a brown rice option for health nuts), put everything on it, and most of the sauces. I didn’t know what most of the sauces were so I just pointed and took my chances. The sauces were so delicious! So flavorful, you definitely have to get your order with the different sauces. My order was scrumptious. I was really hungry and finished the whole thing but normally, this can probably be two meals. Plus, it was $ 8.
