Swan Song

a very nice antique shop in a great neighborhood, great merchanidise at excellent prices. wanda, the owner is not only knowledgeable but very personable and makes the whole process a delight. if you are looking for something unusual, either an antique or a collectible then this is the place for you, great selection of antique and estate jewelry as well.

I went into «Swan Song» yesterday (5÷22÷2014). It is a store specializing in jewelry and antiques. I brought in a piece of jewelry that was a family heirloom that needed repair and also some pendants in need of necklaces. This is not a jewelry repair place, but I thought I might get information. I had a delightful conversation with Wanda, the owner. She gave me tons of great advice about repairing my old jewelry piece and even photographed it, offering to ask her gemologist friends if they had a stone in the color needed to repair it. She had great ideas about an interesting way to display the piece and also about attractive but inexpensive ways to hang my pendants. Her enthusiasm for gems and jewelry was totally contagious. She apparently has had a long career as a professor of gemology and just opened this store very recently. She will be having an opening event for her store on Sunday, June 1^st, 12 — 8 pm, with refreshments, etc. There is a great selection of jewelry and a Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts jacket in the window. A local business worth supporting!

I just stumbled across this new purveyor of estate jewelry and objects d’art after eating at Kirin on Solano in Berkeley. The mix of paintings old and new, one of a kind jewelry, and some amazing glass pieces was exhilarating and actually forced me to part with my clenched dollars that seldom feel the itch to flee my hands. I scored a mercury glass falcon, but what I really wanted was the china plate in the window that featured the Golden Gate before the bridge! What an amazing piece. The owner has a curatorial bent all her own that I find quite appealing. Check it out.
