Spats seems like a nice local bar, with tasty looking food. I came by on a Sunday weekend today to watch the game, and noticed at the last minute they charge an automatic $ 10 minimum if you pay by card. This would have been great if I wanted more beer, yet I did not.

Fine bar, standard in every way. What knocks this bar down a notch is the manager – he’s a really unpleasant guy. Even asking him a question can cause him to snap at you. It’s a shame because this neighborhood could really use a friendly bar.

The food is delicious and amazing… however… They only have a «late night menu» after 10pm, which omits anything worth eating from the menu. Nobody tells you this until you approach the bar to order, so now you’ve gotta go back to your table and decide. On another trip here, we waited at the«please wait to be seated» sign for 20 minutes while staring at open tables and employees wandering around. The food is brilliant. A damn shame the service is abysmal.

We visited Spats when we were visiting a friend in California. We had a group of 6 and found places to sit immediately(success!). Shortly after being seated, we were greeted by our waitress who took our drink orders and was very pleasant! The only minor complaint was that our drinks were weak, but it may have been an off night for the bartender. Overall, everything else was really good! TIP — If this is your first time checking in here, you will receive a coupon for free tots! Which, might I add, are divine.

Got in and had 40 minutes before we had to leave, so we figured it was fine and we would get easy food to make and roll out quickly. We sit down, ask for a menu. 10 minutes later we get a menu. 15 minutes later we put in our order. 15 minutes later we get our beers. 15 minutes after that, the server tells us the chef is «really backed up.» We ask again a few times to see how long it will be and if we should cancel our order. No response. 30 minutes later our food shows up. It was a bowl of chili(not like that comes made to order) and eggs and bacon. An infuriating experience, all in all. The two stars is just because spats can be really great. Their wings are delicious and their beers are only $ 1 overpriced. But get some damn chefs and servers.

The mac n cheese with pulled pork is amazing. The staff was so much fun. We tripped into this place and I’m loving it!!!

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Spats, but never had a chance to go to the original one. I was excited to hear that they opened it back again. My first impression when I first walked in is I like the décor. I came here on a Wednesday night and it was pretty crowded. Overall, I think this spot has a lot of potential for future hang out sessions with friends. The reason why it was crowded on a Wednesday is because of Wing Wednesday. Wings for 25 cents each! We tried a few of each type of flavor they offer. I think my favorite was the buffalo wings. I’m not saying they’re the best wings ever, but for the price they’re great. We also got an order of Deez Nuts because we love memes. The nuts were pretty tasty and nice and warm. The combination of cheap wings and nuts made for some tasty drinking snacks! As for the drinks, I wasn’t too impressed with what we ordered. We got a pitcher of the beergarita. It was ok. I think next time I will try a cocktail or just a beer. I will definitely be back here, though! I really want to come on a Tuesday to try out their $ 1 tacos and the margaritas deal. Remy’s has always been my go-to for Taco Tuesday in Berkeley, so we’ll see if they can personally beat them for me.

This has become one of my favorite spots downtown. I’ve been here a few times now, and each time I’m impressed. The first time I came here was to watch a Warriors game. I was surprised that the place wasn’t packed, but maybe that’s because it was an earlier(5:30pm) game. I asked the bartender if she could change the channel to the game, and she asked around until she got it. Since that was my first time being there, I also had no idea what to get. I told her I was feeling a fruity drink, and she recommended the Chi Chi Punch. Exactly what I was looking for! When the rest of my group got there, we ordered the Totchos and the Chicken Wings. Totchos were interestingly delicious. Wings were classically delicious! Great evening with great food and drinks. Another time I came here was for Taco Tuesday — $ 1 tacos and two-for-one margaritas. I actually ordered a double margarita(rough day), one chicken taco, and one beef taco. My friend ordered the free tots with Unilocal check-in. Service is always great. They give good recommendations to newcomers and are super friendly. I can’t wait to come back here for Wing Wednesday!

This place has 25 cent wings on Wednesdays with an order of at least 2 drinks per table. I’m a fan of their sauces but wish they’d give more stalks of celery with each wing order. The wings are actually delicious and come in 4 flavors — Thai, BBQ, buffalo, and spirit style. The spirit style sauce is made from ghost peppers, and I don’t recommend ordering them unless you’re playing a prank on someone or want to leave your burning mouth under running water for 10 minutes. The service could honestly be a bit better, but overall, Spats is a great place to hang out with some buddies on hump day.

Came here for wing wednesday with a group of friends at 6. Best decision ever! We obviously came to chill and eat wings. With their Wing Wednesday deal(remember you are required to purchase drinks to get it), we got $ 0.25 wings. They were DELICIOUS! I liked the BBQ the best even though I am a fan of lemon pepper(thai). We were expecting some semi half-assed wings but they were much better. They were large for the wings you find around here. The place itself had a good amount of tables. At 6 it was not very crowded, but closer to 7 it got crowded. The waitresses and staff are super nice. Props to them. Not sure what more I could say, but i liked Spats and will definitely come back again!

I’m a fan. Ok they don’t have a happy hour but what the do have makes up for it. Random antique couches, NES(super mario world), enough TVs, TATERTOTS, waitresses are really nice, PITCHERS of cocktails(southern bell for the whiskey drinkers) maybe I’m a little different but I like to add a shot to the pitcher. It’s also really large so good for groups and the bathrooms are clean(an obvious plus for any bar). They also have a wheel that you pay to spin: I have won 2 shots of Jameson and a friend won a bottle of champagne.

Maybe it was a bad idea to come here for Valentine’s brunch. Very long wait for the food, although they did a good job filling us up on bottomless mimosas. Got the groupon which gave us any entrée, bottomless mimosas, and a free shot for $ 15(worth it!). The famous totchoes are definitely very filling and should be shared. It’s smothered in guac, sour cream, cheese, chili, pico de gallo and is not meant for the faint of the heart. I ordered a burger and it was decent, although I wish it was bigger. I love that your side orders can come with either fries or tater tots(of course. tots!). My friend ordered the eggs benedict, although the egg was overcooked. Probably won’t be my first choice of brunch places to go to.

Some of the drinks are a bit on the pricy side, but I’ve won two bottles of champagne(i’m 2⁄2) spinning the wheel so I feel pretty good about it. This is a really solid college bar which has the most space next to Pappy’s, but the food is better. I really hope spats makes it, I’ve been a few times in the last month and Berkeley needs it. The tots and wings are particularly good.

It’s a girls night out and me, sis and my cuz just gone done with sort of dinner in downtown Oakland, and we were gonna hit a couple of other places, but we wanted to get out of Oakland, so we ended up here. This was my Cuz’s suggestion as she heard Spats was reopened. Her BF remembers when it was open a long time ago when he was way younger at Berkeley here. It was the days of «couch bars» and«fern bars». Hey, that’s what was trendy back then I guess. But now, it looks like pretty much a standard bar with a college crowd… yeah, not really a suit and stock broker place. There is still one couch I think, just to remember the old days. We got a seat at a regular table. The place was sort of half full, being this was mid week I guess. I see there’s food served here now, almost a regular full menu. Salads, burgers and sandwiches all served with fries… yeah bar food. We already ate so just drinks for us. But sis, wanted something since she just had a bowl of soup for dinner, so we got a side of fries for $ 6.00 … and I guess we ought to soak up the alcohol with something. Cosmos all around. The drinks arrived in a normal amount of time and were made properly. I think they were about $ 10 bucks each. The crowd seemed a mix of regulars and couples. Pretty chill place, no issues of weirdos trying to make stupid convo of any awk situations. I’d come back. We stayed for just the one round and decide to head over to Rolling Rock. I miss the couches and ferns … before my time, but I think that’d bee cool in a retro way.

Great place to hang out. They’ve got a nice lounge area with couches and a few tables for people to sit at. If you’re looking for a spot to sit and eat they have a dining area but if you’re just there for the brews, there’s also a bar. The whole vibe to this place is vintage. I can dig that… they’ve got this big ass spinning wheel in the bar to help you choose what you’re looking for(pretty neat). But their tots were pretty good(check in for free tots).

TATERTOTSFORDAYS. Spats is a great place for groups enjoying a birthday party or watching a sports game. Very chill atmosphere. The waiters are nice, and ours kept trying to join in on our fun, which was hilarious! The majority of people at our table ordered tater tots, including those that checked-in on Unilocal for a free set of them. I ordered the Spats Burger, which was alright. Nothing special for a burger. My favorite part was the tater tots. Their beer selection seemed decent, though I always opt for an IPA anyways, so I don’t really pay attention to the numerous other ones they have on tap. The birthday boy in our party got to spin the wheel they have at the bar for a drink, and he also tried their Cement Mixer drink, which was apparently interesting. Overall this feels like your average American sports bar, relatively close to the BART station and the UC Berkeley campus. I would come here again to hang out with friends and enjoy a nice beer or two… with tater tots, of course.

College bar!: I’m not in college: If this place was smaller, it’d be your typical homey, yet trendy dive bar(it’s a thing). However, it’s actually quite large making it a perfect place for the following: groups, events — I imagine a perfect venue for a birthday party, and game day pre-gaming festivities. All three factors were part of my visit to Spat’s. I mostly stayed in the lounge area. I loved the vintagey vibe it’s got going on(think a ton of old wood tables and chairs, antiquey couch) yet you can still catch your sporting games and they even have an old school Nintendo system for some Super Mario 3 action. The middle section is more for dining(and more tv’s), and then there’s the bar for straight up dranking! Drinks are not college prices, no doubt about that. You’re looking at $ 10 for a cocktail, but they are large, they are strong and tasty, and yes, it’s Berkeley. Still, tho. Food: They offer up a wide array of bar food: think burgers, sandwiches, tacos, fries, salads. I ordered up the vegan dip(yay for vegans) and the chicken sandwich topped with cheese, bacon, L, T and avo(yay for bacon)! All was better than anticipated. The chicken sandwich was super tasty and quite large for the price and came with those beloved tots. A menu highlight that I spied, but didn’t taste: totcho’s! YEP! Question: Would I go out of my way to eat here? Not quite. But again, if you happen to be here, you can definitely eat and be totally happy and satisfied with your purchasing decision. Or just drinks and tots all day, everyday. A ton of seating, a nice long bar and the employee’s are all so nice. Smiles all around and a lot of good will. Not to mention, the music was on point!

Pre-gaming before Unilocal’s Game Day + Swag + Drinks + Tots = TOUCHDOWN!!! Love the ambiance of this place, and it’s kid-friendly. Ample seating for groups and families to watch the games without having to be at the bar with rowdy peeps. I like how they separate the two. Real cozy lounge area and clean restrooms. Our waitress ITAK(unique name) was friendly and despite the madness Saturday evening, she managed to advise when our drinks and food were coming. She didn’t abandon us, as she was juggling the entire dining area almost by herself. The tater tots were hot and scrumptious. The drinks were strong. I will definitely come back when in the area, it’s Berzerkeley! Cheers =)

I rolled to Spats the other day. To Pick Up my Unilocal Game Day tickets. Spats looked like an interesting place. So I decided to stay and have a drink or 2 . I grabbed a table and took a load off. Spats has a cool Unilocal Check in Offer. An Order of Free Tater Tots with a drink order . Since it was a Cal Bears Home Game, Spats was extremely busy and they appeared a little understaffed. So it took a while for a Server to appear . Once a Server came by, She was nice and took my Drink Order and Marked my Check In Offer as used . 20 minutes later I had my Mint Julep the Official Drink of Unilocal Elites and a nice order of Tater Tots. The Mint Julep was delish and served in a Pint Glass. The Tater Tots were nice and Crispy like I like them . I liked the Mint Julep so much I ordered a second one. Very refreshing . I liked Spats it had a nice Festive atmosphere . It was almost game time and my Ankle Bracelet alerted so I rolled out lol.

Love this place! Came here for the cal game for the Unilocal event and they play reggae music! Huge plus and they have free tots upon a check in as long as you order a drink! Great atmosphere and customer service :) The bar tender was super friendly and helped recommend drinks to me. I ended up choosing the chi chi punch which tasted amazing :) Come and enjoy!
