Sheri Tharp Woodcarving

She is really experienced and helpful. Also, she only charges for the times you can make it which makes it really convenient, at least for me, and you can go at the pace that you want.

While I am still a fairly new student, I already know that I love this place AND our mentor and instructor, Sheri Tharp!
The atmosphere here is casual, friendly and accepting… no pressure, but lots of guidance, help and inspiration from Sheri!
It’s amazing to me how quickly time passes and how totally absorbed I get with the work.
This place is cool!!!

I started taking the introductory class a few weeks ago at Sheri’s woodcarving studio, and I couldn’t be happier. Sheri has created an enchanting space to learn about woodcarving and to feel part of a mini community. The drop-​in structure of the courses is fantastic. The times I have been there, there have been about 3 – 5 other students of all ages and abilities working on their various projects. Sheri is great about walking around to provide individualized instruction and guidance, and it is also so fun to see what everyone else is working on.
The shop is very well organized. Each student gets assigned a work area and a bag with their own set of high-​quality tools to use in the shop. I am really enjoying working on the introductory project because you get to practice all sorts of techniques. I will definitely be continuing after I finish the first course!

Sheri Tharp is a master teacher. Her instruction and guidance have allowed me to carve and construct some wonderful pieces. The congenial atmosphere of the large woodcarving studio and garden annex inspires learning and creativity – both beginning and long time students (some have been with her for almost 30 years) work side by side. I am continually amazed at how Sheri keeps an eye on everyone and gives individual instruction to each student – showing, teaching, and encouraging us to carve-​into-​being objects that were previously figments of our imaginations.
