The host here seems to think he is protecting the ambiance of one of the great restaurants of Paris. He is hostile and unsmiling. Twice, on a weekday after 9 a.m. when the restaurant was half-empty, I’ve gone with a friend and been treated like a suspect. The first time, we were told we’d have to wait a half hour to get a table. No explanation about how half the restaurant must have been reserved by a giant party that hadn’t yet arrived. Just gave me the dead eye. «Take it or leave it, we don’t care, we’ve got plenty to replace you,» was the clear message. Today, again after 9 a.m. on a weekday, he told us we could sit at the counter or the communal table, even though there were other empty tables. No doubt there was an explanation for this as well, but again — it’s the attitude. When my friend walked slightly ahead of this clown while he was showing us in, he gave me the side eye and drawled«OOOOO-KAY.» Snide. Two stars to say that the food was good and the waitressing attentive and kind. I will not be returning.

A friend and I visited the Bay area over MLK weekend. Rick & Ann’s was recommended for breakfast so we arrived at 9:25 am on Sunday January 17th, 2016. Parking was problematic because the little street also has Peet’s and a bakery there, so many people were trying to find parking. We lucked out and found a place quickly. Inside the restaurant, we were seated almost immediately at a 2-person table. However, it was sometime before anyone came to say hello or ask if we would like coffee. A waitress with a burgundy top, hair in a messy bun and huge hoop earrings finally arrived. However, there was no greeting or smile. We asked for coffee then she said«do you know what you want?» so we ordered. More time goes by and we finally get coffee, yet the cups are filled about 5⁄8 full — i guess she assumed we both want a LOT of cream in our coffee(NOT the case). Never did she come by and ask if we wanted a top off or refill. When the food came, my «Lemon Ricotta pancakes with mixed berries» as it was advertised turned out to actually be «Lemon and Mixed Berry and ricotta pancakes»: the berries were inside, not on top. The pancake on the bottom was mushy and nov completely cooked. My friend’s red flannel hash was cold, so she sent it back. It was about 8 – 10 minutes and when it came back, the new freshly cooked ‘over medium’ eggs were over hard so she sent it back again! Meanwhile, I had to flag down a waitress and ask for water and more coffee, and she smiled when she brought it. Once we finished, we had to wait for sometime for the check. Finally we asked the waitress and she brought it. I tipped her less than 10%, which was more than she deserved. The restaurant was full, but there was never a line to get in. Our waitress didn’t look very happy to be working at this place. I would never go back here. The food wasn’t very good and the service was awful.

Had the chicken pot pie. not a traditional pot pie, dough was raw. in the center of the biscuit. The chicken cream base was soso… plenty of peas and white meat… nothing to write home about. ill give ita 2.5 out of 5.

Terrible service and prices. Great food. Ordered a potato cheese pancake to go. Went to pick up the order and was told that the order was not entered into the computer. Waited for a while and got the order again. When I came home and opened the box, I found a normal pancake. I wasted 2 hours and drove ask the way just for a simple pancake! I’ve had the potato cheese pancake earlier. It is divine.

When I go to a restaurant, I have my favorite items that I always get there. My human says«snuffles, get out of your comfort zone!» But comfort zones are always comfortable, warm and fuzzy, just like me. When I come here, I always get the French toast which is in my opinion — some of the best French toast in the Bay Area. It’s quite filling though, so be sure to have another hungry bear there to help you eat it! Also have tried their crab scramble, which I picked off a human friend’s plate and is also beary good. A little pricey though and a bit small.

This is my favorite place to get breakfast in Berkeley by far. The food is incredible, the staff are all kind and friendly, and the view of the Claremont is breathtaking. Delicious, homestyle cooking with a twist. My mouth is still doing a happy dance after enjoying my crab frittata with lemon, chive cream cheese.

Great food. Fresh, well prepared, nice portions. Parking is a challenge with meters, but it is worth it. Place is kid friendly. Really nice service too.

Delicious, fast and friendly service, quintessentially Berkeley. Bonus points for great gluten-free pancakes and bread. Be prepared to wait for a table for weekend brunch

We were a party of three enjoying a mid-week breakfast. The restaurant was busy and smelled great. It is small and cozy but the space did not feel tight. There are a couple of optional outside tables. Parking is metered and only a couple of spots on the street. We lucked out and got a space right in front. Food was fresh and tasty. I order the Domingo Omelette: two eggs, tomato, goat cheese, spinach and mushrooms. It came with red potatoes with a dollop of sour cream and chopped green onions and my choice of scone, muffin or toast. No complaints. Very good as was the service.

Try to come here on weekdays, the wait is so much more forgiving. I’ve been here thrice now and I would highly recommend Erica’s French Toast with a side order of fruit. I get it everytime I’m here. The area this restaurant is in is beautiful and the bakery next door is equally amazing!

The Erika’s french toast is the best. Their pancakes are pretty tasty. I took a chance today and ordered shrimp and grits and I was a little disappointed because the grits were dry and the shrimp was not that good. I will come back again because I do love the Erika’s french toast. Our waitress Amy was very nice.

The porkchop was absolutely amazing with the Virginia Plate. If your looking for a hearty meal and an incredible savory taste, this meal is perfect.

Still yummy after all these years, and walking distance from my hotel. Yay! Rick & Ann’s is very popular, but there is a reason for that. The pancakes, waffles, and egg dishes are all pretty darn good. And, after living in Sydney for a while, I forgot about the HUGE portions(at a fraction of the cost, as well). Massive plate of pumpkin pancakes plus coffee = $ 10. And I couldn’t even come close to finishing those pancakes, no matter how delicious they were. I also really love the way they do their potatoes. And, in the past, I have had several lunch items here as well, but it’s been too long for me to comment on that. But, the traditional Rick & Ann’s meal is and always will be breakfast. That’s what they made their name on. Now, the lines are long on the weekends. Really long. And it’s a small space. Here’s a tip: come by yourself or just one other person and ask to eat at the Community Table. I actually prefer eating at this table myself, and it will cut your wait time down considerably.

When your server has to apologize for the rude behavior of the manager saying«I’m so sorry, I know…» You have to KNOW your manager is not treating customers right. Obviously she has an attitude problem when even the server recognizes it. And being polite is not walking away when asked to talk to without resolving the situation. Even the table next to us commented on how rude she was! Will not be coming back and trust me will not be recommending this place, quite the opposite.

This place is poppin’ even on Friday mornings — I waited 20 min for a party of 2. I was excited for the food, but the vegetarian hash disappointed by being too dry and crunchy(I like my sweet potatoes fully cooked and soft.) But wow, the orange-cardamom french toast was TODIEFOR. Perfect balance between crunchy and moist. They also give a good amount of butter on the side, for those of you who like lathering your food in it like me. :D Their special lemon ricotta strawberry pancakes were yummy too, though I couldn’t taste much strawberry and didn’t find ricotta influencing the texture much. Really disappointed in the service though. The waitress tried taking my plate away while I was eating and eyed me the whole time as if I were taking up precious space. But other than that, a fine experience. And the hot chocolate was decent, too.

Myself, Dining Partner, and two friends came here on a Saturday for breakfast around 9:30am. We were staying at the Claremont Hotel and we were looking for something within walking distance. We were seated as we arrived on the patio, just beating the crowd. I ordered the Greens, Bacon & Cheese omelette with a scone. My friend had Emily’s Egg Plate, with eggs over medium. Dining Partner had the Cheese omelette and another friend had the California with whole grain pancakes. My omelette was a bit runny for my liking on the inside, so I ate mostly the edges. The scone was fluffy and had a nice citrus flavor to it. We were all satisfied with our meals, but nothing blew our socks off. We had an odd interaction with our waitress before we even placed our order, so as far as service goes, that wasn’t anything special.

We came here for a late Sunday brunch, put our names on the list and enjoyed a stroll around the neighborhood for 30 minutes before our table was ready.(If you have kids, there’s a playground practically across the street). We took in the houses and all the flowers in bloom this time of year, along with some smoke. Brunch was delicious and reasonably priced. I got the Sake Lemonade and my friend tagged the bellinni, both worth the order. I love that they know how to do soft scrambled eggs. They also made my potato pancakes(latkes where I come from) sans cheese(ew, why? IMHO) and bread crumbs for gluten free me(shut up, I can’t help it, not a fad for me, it’s been over a decade). The sour cream and applesauce danced well with the fried potato strips. My friend loved their cornmeal waffle and sausages with eggs and veggies and such. All in all a filling meal in a crowded but low-key and relaxed environment. We’ve been looking for a better breakfast than Bette’s and I think we found it. Dug it and will be back.

How have I not had Rick and Ann’s during my time as a student at Cal? My first time here was 2 years after I graduated and I am in shock I haven’t been here before! What I love about this place is that if there is a wait, it’s never super long – or maybe I just have gone on weekends when I’ve been lucky! I’ve only been here twice, both times for breakfast/brunch on the weekend. I love love love their yukon gold plate – if you’re a fan of veggie hash, you won’t be disappointed! The boyfriend got some pumpkin pancakes and they were very good. Super fluffy, very flavorful, and huge! We were super stuffed and couldn’t even eat everything! I can’t wait to go back and try more on their menu. In addition, the staff is super friendly, nothing bad to say :)

We enjoyed our first experience so much that we returned for Valentine’s Day. We devoured an amazing(and reasonably priced) four course meal with excellent service and delicious champagne. The Steak Au Poivre was perfect and the Pot de Crème with gluten free cookies were a wonderful and rare treat for someone with allergies like mine. We had a lovely time and didn’t have to wait because we made a reservation. We look forward to our next meal at Rick and Ann’s.
