I chose this doctor because his office was the only one that actually had a person answering the phone, rather than a machine. Because I was plagued by eye irritation, I was able to get a same-day appt., and the receptionist was very nice. Dr. Lee was very thorough and helpful. He seems to know more than just eyes: he theorized that some allergies I’ve been having, which I thought were only affecting my sinuses, might also be affecting my eyes, and I think there’s a good chance he’s right(I haven’t really been able to test this theory, as my insurance company is balking at paying for the drops Dr. Lee prescribed – we’re still negotiating that). He was responsive to my concerns about racking up costs for extra tests, but I didn’t feel that he cut any corners. Something to note: this office is very old-fashioned, and doesn’t accept credit cards. I didn’t have my checkbook with me, so they let me go to the nearby ATM at Alta Bates hospital to get some cash, with no problem(and gave me a hand-written receipt!). The décor of the office is also a bit on the old/dark side, but Dr. Lee’s knowledge seems very up-to-date, so don’t let that throw you. I would definitely go back.

Just got back from an eye exam. I am never going back to this place. The assistant was nice and friendly but what I hated most about this place was the unhygienic methods used. In particular, Dr Lee used some instrument to measure eye pressure and this instrument actually touched my pupil. But he never cared to replace the head of the instrument before or after the use which implies that the same instrument, which has potentially touched several diseased eyes(what else do you expect at an ophthalmologist?) touched my healthy eyes. The thought of it is going to haunt me for quite some time now,
