Bummed and wow! I am a long-time customer and subscriber to your email blasts in town for meetings next door and I wanted to shop for something smaller than the angler bag that I have used for several years. My clothes for this overnight trip are packed in one of your hippo bags. I have one of your giant duffles for multi night trips. I love your product. I stopped by around noon and the store was closed, perhaps they close for lunch. At a break about three I stopped by again to find the door locked and a note saying they would be back in 15 minutes. Both times there were people walking around inside looking at me. My friends and I loitered outside chitchatting and finally a short woman with dark hair came to the door. I asked to come inside and she explained they were short handed today, that she was the back office girl and refused me. She stated that it was their RIGHT to be closed. She was mad at me for disturbing her work day. She is not nice! OK, I just wanted to look at the bag on the second shelf 20 feet away, long time customer, 5 minutes left on break, credit card at the ready, etc. I had this dumbfounded look on my face the whole time. The situation deteriorated with her flinging the door open saying«fine» but in the end I don’t want to be where I am not wanted. She pushed the door closed and huffed off. «What a BIT@H» was all I could muster to my friends which brought her back out the door to yell at me. Miss, you are a BIT@H.

Upon use, the leather bag ripped few times. They repaired the first rip and now the second rip they want 5 weeks to repair. The workmanship and service is poor, sales person isnt proactive.. Everything has to escalated to management

Mulholland is a historied California manufacturer of leather goods, and that’s the main attraction here: well-constructed items made with supple, rich leathers and durable lightweight endurance canvas that resist wear but nonetheless gain a patina and a character with age. Some items are made in China, but they clearly delineate those wares from the others handcrafted in their Berkeley shop. In general, the main line is constructed overseas and exotic leather items are assembled domestically. It’s a fair and honest approach that doesn’t bother me in the least. I’ve been purchasing and using Mulholland leather goods now for years and they are among my absolute favorite, a great American alternative to unjustifiably pricier and more ostentatious French luggage makers. I’ve only ordered online, but would love to visit the storefront some day soon.

The products aren’t the main problem here — it’s the sales people who lack in social graces and are unprofessional. But that starts at the top, so the owners of this company just aren’t up to par if they haven’t made it their responsibility to see that their staff is totally qualified. The two sales people chat among themselves, not interested in helping and seem to be «whispering» throughout — that’s a real comfortable feeling for the customer!

This review is to urge potential customers to be wary of online shopping with Mulholland: I ordered a wax duffle on Nov. 15 and was charged immediately. It appeared that all was well and I received an order confirmation. One week later, I reached out to try to determine when my bag might arrive. Only then was I told that my item was on back order and that they anticipated receiving it before Christmas. That’s a month away, folks, and 6 weeks after my order was placed! I canceled my order, the customer service person was indifferent at best and I did get my credit. Here’s my objection: –I was NEVER told about the back order. It didn’t show on the website, it wasn’t in my confirmation and the only reason I found out is because I asked. As it turns out, this was for an early December birthday, so I had to make a plan B. But it is simply irresponsible to have an order for a $ 490 item that cannot be fulfilled and just sit on it with no communications. –It is out of line that I was immediately charged for a bag that was not available. –There was absolutely no reaching out to help other than to tell me that I could buy something else from the website. For example, an offer to try to find this bag at one of their retailers might have been in order. Needless to say, my query about which location to use for my Unilocal review went unanswered…

I have owned an angler bag for nearly 8 years and it has aged wonderfully. I regularly get compliments on it. Mulholland has also stood behind the product. I brought it in for some minor repairs(normal wear and tear) and got the bag back a couple of weeks later heavily refurbished: all new liner and all leather seam edging replaced — no extra charge. These days, the bags are a lot more expensive than they were when I bought mine… plus I was lucky enough to find one on sale. But the next time I’m looking for a bag, I’ll definitely shop Mulholland… and keep an eye on the sale section just in case something tempting pops up!

revising from 1 star to 3 star but i wish there were a 2.5star rating because I’m still unhappy that i had to make a big fuss with Mulholland and fedex in a protracted dispute lasting weeks before Mulholland finally shipped me my replacement bag. phew! shouldn’t be that difficult.

The boy and I came here because he was looking for a very specific brand of shoes, and Mulholland was the closest store to carry them. The store smells really nice [real leather!] and isn’t too big, but it’s filled with all sorts of cool leather goods. Yes, things are a bit pricey, but you can definitely tell that the quality is worth it. The staff is helpful and pretty friendly as well. They didn’t have the exact shoe the boy was looking for in his size, but it’s okay!

My husband and I bought a few pieces of leather gods from the sf store a few years ago and have been pleased with them. We noticed today that many items are now made in China. While they have more selection, we can tell a chane in the quality in some of the items. I believe they use to make everything themselves locally.

I stopped by 4th Street today to buy some coffee at Peets. parked the car, avoided the Greenpeace solicitors, and looked up to notice a new«Brother» on the block. Mulholland was founded in 1984 in the Bay Area by making fly-reel and shotgun cases. They have since evolved into a purveyor of briefcases and other fine leather goods. I’m a sucker for such a thing and happen to own at least 1 Mulholland piece(courtesy of a bargain ebay purchase). And in the spirit of full disclosure, I remain primarily a Glaser Designs Man. The new Berkeley Mulholland Brothers Store is very nice and has a nice handsome ambiance similar to what I’ve experienced in similar Portland stores. There’s a nice mix of leather goods and fashion, and it’s all nicely displayed and presented. The selection is not cheap, but it’s a good value for the quality presented. Of course, it always helps to see a «percentage off» table. I’m sure I’ll be wandering back occasionally.
