Amazingly good food, but 20−30% more expensive than I’m comfortable paying(or would typically pay anywhere else) for the same plates. Perhaps for a special occasion!

Los Cilantros is delicious. We hired them to do our wedding. Dilsa was professional and flexible, and her food was as exceptional catered as it was in the restaurant. It ended up raining a lot on our wedding, and we decided to do the cocktail hour early to wait out the rain before the ceremony. Dilsa didn’t miss a beat, and offered to put out some appetizers early– very early! — we said yes please and she instantaneously had chips and guacamole ready for our guests, and the other appetizers were quick to follow. All of our guests told us that«best wedding food ever» wasn’t a good enough compliment. Also, there was PLENTY of food(don’t you hate it when you go to a wedding and there’s not enough food??) and everyone got seconds and thirds!!! We were so happy that we were able to serve such incredibly delicious food to our loved ones at our wedding. At the very least, go to Los Cilantros. If you have an occasion coming up, hire them!

This place is FANTASTIC. The best carnitas we’ve ever had, for real. Lots of interesting, authentic Mexican dishes that you don’t often see at their places. Big portions, reasonable prices, and classy presentation and atmosphere. The aguas frescas are delicious. We’ve been a bunch of times for brunch and have never been disappointed.

My aunt and I were looking to go get some good Mexican food the other day, and while there’s plenty of good ‘hole in the wall’ taco/burrito joints around, I was looking for something more authentic. I happened across Los Cilantros here on Unilocal and in looking over the reviews, I happened to see a 1 star review left a couple weeks back, decrying Los Cilantros for being«snobs» who wouldn’t prepare Taco Bell type simple(crappy) food. Seeing this complaint, I figured, «This sounds like a great place!» And boy was I right! Everything was very fresh, extremely well prepared, and authentic. Wonderful place and food, and I look forward to returning.

Delicious! I had tostadas de nopales and halibut ceviche. The cabbage avocado salad is the best I’ve had. The food was excellent, fresh and flavorful. One small suggestion I have for the restaurant is to make their tortillas less oily or even make their own tortillas. That would add the fifth star to the review and blow the competition away. Highly recommend

Idk why but I guess I’ve become accustomed to more laid back Mexican restaurants. I was terribly underdressed but since no one else was in there I said ‘¿why not.’ The place was decorated nicely and it was attached to a ethnicity center of some sort. A few people came over to the restaurant side for some drinks.(They had more of these customers than sit down) Their menu was a little expensive for my taste, but it felt rude to just walk out. I decided to go with some chicken tacos and a quesadilla. They felt and tasted like high quality ingredients. It was a cool little spot to go to. Maybe more tailored for professionals and I went when it was completely dead, so idk how they would handle crunch time. Nonetheless, the staff was very friendly and treated me well.

5 Estrellas for this neighborhood gem! Gathered for a family luncheon, we appreciated the attentive service and fell in love with the authentic comida Mexicana! We had the cabbage salad, it was mild in taste, crunchy and made the tacos we ordered all the more better. We had the carnitas(juicy & tender) and the barbacoa(súper flavorful & juicy) both were made with, but the barbacoa was my absolute favorite. The chile rellenos we had were made with a light tangy salsa, the flavors really melted together nicely. The basic accompaniments were far better than most Mexican spots, namely the beans, the homemade tortillas, and the agua frescos(not overly sweet just all natural goodness)! For dessert we tried the flan & plantains both were yummy. Plus there was a class going on next door of dancers with live music which gave this restaurant a great vibe. Can’t wait to go back!

Definitely won’t be going back. I took my cousin and his young daughters there for dinner, it was my first time as well. Their menu is a little more sophisticated than the average Mexican place but their attitudes were just plain snobby. My cousin asked if his girls could just get a simple bean and cheese burrito… the waiter had to ask if that was possible. He came back with a «no» because they try to «focus on the entrees», whatever the hell that means. Btw I work for a high end catering company, and if the client wants simple Mac and cheese, that’s what the client gets. If they want chicken and waffles, you’d better believe we are going to make them the best damn chicken and waffles they’ve ever had. You cater to the client, plain and simple. We then asked if they could do chips and cheese nachos… nope.(It looked like we had offended him with that request) We settled on a quesadilla for the girls. It was a small corn tortilla folded in half. The chips and salsa we had to pay for were small portions of salsa and guacamole with about 15 chips.(The chips were actually pretty good and I would have appreciated more) Bottom line — I won’t be back and I was embarrassed that that is where I took my out-of-town family.

Great Mexican spot next to the famous La Peña Cultural Center with exceptionally friendly staff. Plus, what a great story of the restaurant opening with the support of the La Cocina food business incubator that supports female entrepreneurs. Everything about my Enchiladas Verdes was great, except for the potato filling, which was bland and just seemed like filler. Fortunately, the tomatillo sauce with a little kick provided plenty of flavor, the avocado was perfectly ripe, and the touch of tangy and creamy queso was perhaps the best I’ve had. I love that these enchiladas weren’t drowning in cheese as many often are. The side of black beans was perfection. So next time I’ll try the enchiladas with a filling other than the potatoes. I also enjoyed my watermelon agua fresca — fruity, refreshing, and not overly sweet. The flan was almost as dense as cheesecake(for me, a good thing), and its caramel sauce had a hint of burnt(yum).

First time here. Great tortilla soup and verde enchiladas. Good atmosphere as well. The owner came by and was very gracious.

authentic Mexican food. I had the Avocado slaw, taco plate and coconut flan. The mole tacos were my favorite. The coconut flan was the best flan I’ve ever had. The Slaw had lime so packed a nice tart flavor. Love slaw so wish the portion was a bit larger. Parking’s a bit of a problem. I’d definitely go back again. This place was $ 60 for a three course meal for two so was on the pricier side.

I’ve eaten here about 6 times now and I’m amazed at how delicious and consistent their food is. You can taste the quality of the ingredients in their homemade masa, corn tortillas, and traditional Mexican dishes. Some of my favorite dishes are their tlacoyitos, Chile relleno, and cabbage-avocado salad with added chicken tinga. Even their aguas frescas taste like they are made with love. I like to come eat here before a show at La Peña Cultural Center, which the restaurant shares its space with. They also sell inexpensive wine from chile, beer and sangria.

I wanted to really like this place. But my experience ended up just being OK. The place itself and décor is really cute and hip, and it’s great that it’s next to the cultural center(could hear music being played next door). The food however, just didn’t deliver like I wanted it to for the price. I chose to get the tinga(chicken) tostados, which I was afraid wouldn’t be filling enough but turned out to be just right portion size(but probably not enough for someone who is really hungry). While the ingredients tasted ok together, it was a bit bland and underwhelming. The chicken itself was just OK. Not too dry. My friends got the tortilla soup, tacos, and chiliquiles, and there were mixed reactions to it being just ok, and good. I wish I tried to carnitas instead as those looked really good. Overall, I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here, but am willing to try it again.

Loved our experience at Los Cilantros. Ambience is casually warm and inviting, we came for dinner which was a little dimmer to set the *~mood~*. We started with their agua frescas to sip on– guava & tamarind. The guava was not the typical pink guava drink you’d probably expect, the white kind which was still just as refreshing & the tamarind one also tasted fresh. I appreciated that they weren’t too sweet like most places. I had the tostadas Tinga(black beans on the side), with a side of plain plantains(rather than the caramelized dessert one). The tostadas were delish, especially with the plantains– a harmonious balance of sweet, creamy, savory & the tostadas added a nice textural crisp. The plantains weren’t as charred as I usually have them, but good nonetheless. we also had the carnitas which were very tender and flavorful. For dessert, we had the coconut flan– definitively a hit if you’re a coconut lover; creamy, coconuty & not too sweet as well. The service was also great, they were extremely attentive and friendly. Would love to return here if I’m in the area.

We were here for a show in the lounge and the restaurant let us order and eat our meal in the lounge which is part of La Pena Cultural Center. The food is very tasty and we enjoyed the food. We ordered the Lagunitas draft beer and the tacos and for dessert we had the plaintains! Delish! We have also had their guacamole and chips the first time we ate here.

At first I was disappointed when looking at the Unilocal reviews. I thought we were going to land at an Americanized taco place. NOPE! This place was great, albeit expensive for just tacos. ~$ 12 – 14 for 3 tacos, but boyyyy did these tacos have a ton of flavor. LOVELOVELOVE. The waitress also was patient when taking a group picture for us. There was a group of guitar players in the other room, which made the ambiance nice.

The place was noisy, which is usually a good sign. The restaurant shares its space to a performing-arts center, and when we were there, there was some good music on. The food was very good. We were a large party of 7, and we ordered almost all their veg entrees. The tlacayitos were delectable, the chips and guacomole were filling, the flandecoco was uniquely sweet, and we also had some tamales which were delicious as well. Friendly staff couldn’t sweeten the rather long waiting time. Would definitely go there again. P.s: parking is kinda a problem.

I was pretty excited to try Los Cilantros after having their strawberry agua fresca at the SF Street Food Festival. I’ve been craving mole so my friend and I shared the mole sopes, mushroom and chicken tacos, and the barbacoa beef. I enjoyed the mushroom taco over the chicken because the chicken in both dishes was very dry. I also wished that the sopes came with more mole as the mole flavor wasn’t too strong. I should’ve tried the enchiladas which look like they’re swimming in mole. The $ 14 barbacoa beef was good. It came with 3 tiny homemade tortillas, truck style size. We quickly finished the tortilla and had beef left over so we paid $ 1 for more tortilla. I think it would’ve been more efficient if they had people order from the counter as it took a while for the server to notice us and take our order.

I tried Los Cilantros for the first time and not sure I will be back. We ordered tacos, a quesadilla & the carnitas plate. Sadly the tacos & quesadilla were on the small side. I guess you could say«street taco» size. I was disappointed when it was on the pricey side. The carnitas were a good portion & yummy but apparently the«plate»(which is $ 14 I think) is a carnitas portion, a few tortillas and a single, small plastic container(the ones a little bigger than a quarter) of minced onion and cilantro. There was also another small container of salsa &1 wedge of lime. Overall good but too expensive for portion sizes.

My wife and I came here to meet up with some friends that are local to the area. Despite a group of six we were seated immediately I am continually amazed at the quality of Mexican cuisine in California. Long lost are the days where i thought the height of this cuisine was the laudable Chalupa Chicken Supreme at Taco Bell. I sampled a few of the dishes my friends and I got and it left no doubt in my mind as to which was the best, Carnitas. It was juicy, delicious and unforgettable in it’s goodness. THe concept was receiving a metal plate with all the ingredients needed for a taco, separate cilantor, onion, salsa and meat containers were served on a big hot platter. THe food came out quickly. Place was solid.
