Great popup in a great location next to Tokyo fish market. The miso broth was too salty for me but the other choices were fine.

I just ate here with my boyfriend today because we were craving ramen on a rainy day. Steve’s food captures the essence of ramen: balanced broth and good noodles. We both ordered the miso ramen and left satisfied. Come here if you’re looking for restaurant quality ramen served by a friendly and hospitable street vendor! :)

I went to the pop up ramen tent near Tokyo Fish Market. There were 3 choices of broth — shio is the lightest, shoyu is soy sauce base, and miso. Miso has 3 types of miso in it, and I chose this one. The broth was flavorful and substantial without being oily, so I enjoyed this a lot. The noodles were cooked«al dente.» The pork belly was cooked to be quite soft, and I loved the egg. The yolk was soft and runny.

Very glad that we came to toyko fish market with empty stomach. Totally love the shio ramen! I could taste the soup base which is very important to good ramen. Now I finally found a place for ramen in the east bay.

This is my favorite ramen spot! I love the ramen, choice of three soup flavors, and the egg that my ramen came with, which was super soft. There’s plenty of parking right there. The atmosphere is relaxing. On top of that, Steve cooks the ramen perfectly and is so friendly!

Simple Ramen, just a nice good bowl of simply home cooked ramen… Slightly rich broth, nice cooked chewy noodles, a whole chicken, slightly runny egg. Like I said simply ramen

The ramen is good. I go the miso ramen last tme and it had an egg that was cooked just right and the pork was tender. However, the bowls are still small and the prices were raised to $ 9. Compared to the competition, I would say you are getting a lot less for the same price as other ramen shops in the bay area so the value isn’t there.

This is good simple homestyle ramen. I am pretty sure he does not use MSG – which I prefer. Professional and friendly. Price seems a little high for serving size, but I would try again. Credibility: I have been to Japan several times. Not an authority on Ramen, but know a little.

This is my #56 ramen review. Check out my ramen list in the link attached. The pop up guy at Ippo Ramen was really nice and friendly. They have 3 types: shio, shoyu, and miso. He explained each flavors, shio being very light, shoyu with a soy sauce base, and miso as the richest and creamiest. My boyfriend and I got the miso, and my friend got the shoyu. I tried them both, and the broth is good, though nothing spectacular. The noodles were good too, as was the tender pork. The soft boiled egg was the only item that was impressive, to say the least. For $ 9 a bowl, I probably would not come back and would prefer Sobo Ramen instead. However, I’d recommend giving it a try and grabbing a beer(only $ 4) to go with it as well. –Ramen Sheriff

Really wanted to try ippo ramen at umami mart on Friday. We ordered and paid, then about 5 minutes later our money was returned with an apology saying they had over sold. It was a sincere apology, but utterly disappointing since they sold out so early and didn’t realize how many portions they had vs. orders. I’d been looking forward to it all week. i love the homey feeling ramen gives you, or perhaps it’s the incredible food coma after a filling bowl — Ippo Ramen is tasty and satisfying in all ways you would expect! Ramen places are saturated in the bay area so it’s nice to be able to have some good quality ramen without an hour wait. the dude sets up a foldable table with some portable burners to cook with. it’s like a camping set up with freshly prepared ingredients ready for your order. i got the shio ramen and the bf got miso. miso was definitely full of flavor — it’s for you if you like your food a bit saltier. the shio was refreshing especially on a warmer day. the noodles were cooked perfectly. i like mine a bit al dente and the portion was definitely large. i highly recommend visiting ippo ramen — you can even get a flight of beers at the brewery he’s set up at!

Really wanted to like this place, but it’s a no-go for me. Stopped today at their pop-up at Kitchen on10th in Berkeley. I arrived a little before 11:30 so the place was still empty. Spoke with the owner and asked for his suggestion. He recommended shio, so that’s what I had. A bowl of ramen is $ 9. A bit pricey for one slice of chashu, green onions, bamboos, seaweed and egg, but I can live with that… as long as it’s good. Well the broth is pretty bland. I understand shio ramen, it doesn’t have to be tonkotsu, but this one was pretty bland without much depth in flavor(umami). Noodle comes from Yamachan in San Jose, and its ok to mediocre. The best thing was their egg, however they should marinate it a bit longer so there is some flavor. I think if the broth was that flavorful then the egg would have been ok, but it wasn’t

Four stars for the broth, three stars for everything else. The miso broth was rich and complex. The story of labor behind its production added to my enjoyment. The pork was a little dry. The egg could’ve been marinated more to have better flavor. The toppings felt a bit skimpy. The thin noodles were fun to eat, but were not a revelation in my mouth – is that too high of a bar? I definitely have had ramen noodles that were that good. Just not these. Fun idea. Would love to see more popups. How about a sashimi popup?

Ippo Ramen makes regular appearances @Kensington farmers market, Linden brewery and now @Kitchen at l0th, berkeley.(fridays, 10 – 2) menu: shoyu, miso, shio? ramen eats: miso ramen(9) –small amount of chewy noodles, miso heavy broth(slight aftertaste) –seaweed toppings, slices of lean pork, not pork belly, whole boiled egg, green onions –ramen made to order. 3ish stars temaki: –mid range in quality of pop up ramens –ramen better than most korean/chinese owned ramen shop(think yee is chinese) but not japanese owned ramen shops. –price is relative, maybe pricey for portion –tonkotsu broth preferred so… neutral on miso…

Ippo Ramen showed up this morning at the Kensington Farmers’ Market. After about 20 minutes(i.e., around 10:20AM), a line began to form. I was one of the first to snag a bowl. As other reviews have explained, there are three possible broths. The owner(Steven Yee) explained to me that his preference was broth #2 and then asked me to choose one. As one of my friends likes to say in similar circumstances, it’s nice to have the right answer supplied to you just before you get your exam question. Broth #2 is what I selected. I liked all of the ingredients: the broth, the noodles, the egg(which was cooked perfectly soft-medium), the meat(pork belly, I guess), the onions, the seaweed,… The dish was assembled with love and respect. At $ 9, the bowl of ramen was a tad steep for a mid-morning snack, but it was perfectly delicious. I plan to be a repeat customer. Market manager Chris Hall(«El Jefe»), has been selecting great new vendors. Ippo Ramen is a wonderful new addition to the lineup.

Finally! A decent ramen place in Oakland… the ENTIRE East Bay! It is so close to me. I no longer have to suppress the urge to drive for 45 minutes across the bridge and have to wait for another hour or so to satisfy my ramen cravings. For $ 9 a bowl, it is not the best bowl that I have ever had but it is enough to satisfy my cravings! I’m glad that he has found a permanent spot now with easy parking AND it’s next to a brewery. I love it and will be back very soon!
