Fix that Mac

I brought my Mac Pro in to try to figure out why it wasn’t booting up. The tech spent about 20 minutes taking the computer apart trying to figure it out. Ultimately the diagnosis was a fried cpu or motherboard. While this was a bummer to learn, at least it didn’t cost me $ 60 to find out like it would have at m.a.c. Very friendly service!

This was the first time I am here but they didn’t charge me anything for reseting passwords and clearing the malware. I have compared with other stores near berkeley, and find they are the most reasonable one for my problem. And they are very friendly. While in the other store, I have seen many workers and I cannot tell who is operating on my macbook. But they let me see everything during the process, which makes me feel safe. Thank you guys.

Usually dealing with techies in the bay areas is a pain. I am not sure who suffers more, us or them. But working with the people at fix that mac is like working with everyday people, that know how to help, straight forward, quick, and always reasonable prices.

I’m a bit disappointed that the same repair from 5-​years ago, a new keyboard and start button now costs over twice as much. Also, service is worse – I got no calls telling me they were ordering a new part, or to explain that repair would be longer than the two days quoted.

I went in to see if they could help me with a stripped screw on the bottom of my Macbook Pro. Within just a couple minutes, the screw was removed, and I was then able to do my own hard drive upgrade at home. I just didn’t have the right tools to deal with a stripped screw on my own. What made this visit to Fix that Mac so great was that they took out the screw for free. Maybe for them it was no big deal, but for me it was the one thing standing between me and a new SSD. I will definitely return to them if I have any other Mac issues, but now I also have a place I would be comfortable referring friends to.

I really love these guys. They have been so generous with advice, clear, honest, resourceful over many years. When I went there with mother board down they sorted out that it was under Mac warrenty, have fixed major and minor problems, given friends advice on Mac purchases, you name it. I can’t recommend more

I don’t have two dollars to my name. I started a new job just three weeks ago, and today my boss sent me out from East Oakland to have a laptop fixed in downtown Berkeley. I couldn’t afford to pay for parking, so I bit the bullet and parked at a metered spot in front of the business (I think all the spots near that area are metered, anyway). The person at the front desk was really nice, but after looking at the laptop I had brought in and assessing its issues, he just left. I stood around for nearly twenty minutes until someone else came by to ask if I was being helped. During that time, I thought that maybe the person who was helping me was still on the clock, preparing something or another. The other employee then informed me that he had gone on his lunch, and had told him that I was going to call my boss before giving the laptop in for repairs. I hadn’t told anyone that I was waiting for any phone confirmation, and I certainly wasn’t in a position to entertain 20 minutes of phone tag while my car just waited for a ticket.
Of course, I got that $ 43 dollar ticket. And of course, I could have asked for some parking change, or reimbursement for transportation expenses, but it’s a little beyond the point (telling your new boss that you’re dirt poor is never easy). I haven’t been paid yet, so I’m just stuck in the hole. And who knows, maybe the meter ticketing people came immediately after I had parted… it’s not the point. That waiting time was ridiculous.

Brought in my iPad Air for repair. They were not able to repair it due to hardware issues. I sent it in for service through Apple and was denied due to the fingerprint left UNDER the screen, dust left under the screen, misaligned front camera, and «open unit» (basically not being put together correctly when they took it apart). These damages were all done when fix that mac tried to replace my screen, thus voiding my warranty. Go to a authorized repair service like Computerland of Berkeley instead.

This shop is TOP NOTCH. The location so close to UC Berkeley Campus and my apt. is a godsend. This staff is amazing. They have resurrected my MAC BOOK PRO twice and installed a larger hard drive to an i-​POD I love. With a shop like this landfill is decreased.
WHY DO PEOPLE have to keep feeding the giant pig of «new tech toys»? Buy new when you absolutely must. Until then go to this shop and extend the life of your APPLE toys. They are AMAZING!!!

I was having problems with my Mac. My iPhoto had disappeared, and I was receiving emails in the Mac mail, which I didn’t want. I called Fix that Mac and they told me to just bring it in. Well, I did, and boy, was I surprised at the excellent service I received. In less than 15 minutes, Jaime found my iPhoto, explained what had happened, and fixed my email problem, too. She talked to me like I was a real person, not the dinosaur I know I am, and she was so nice, and incredibly efficient. Those folks know what they’re doing! On top of that, she didn’t charge me. Can you believe it? But it’s true. If you’re having trouble with your Mac, or any other Apple products, take it to Fix that Mac in Concord. You won’t regret it!

So… I shattered my iPhone 6 plus screen and called in to receive a quote for the repair. After quoting me the price I thanked the lady and headed over to have my phone fixed. After arriving (as in taking the time to drive and find parking in crowded downtown Berkeley) I was told that they did not have any more iPhone 6 plus screens in stock. WTF? Why would you not mention this on the phone? The young lady I spoke with even acknowledged me having called in «oh you’re the one who called in? oh yeah sorry I should have mentioned that we don’t have any iPhone 6 plus screens left in white only in black. but you can go to our location in Concord.» Concord?!! a 37 minute drive away? No! absolutely not. Then after contemplating and really just wanting my phone fixed I asked if they could just put the black screen on my phone even though it was originally white. Then she says «Oh sorry, that screen is on hold for someone» THEN WHY EVEN MENTION IT TO ME IN THE FIRST PLACE? Waste of my time and sooooo unprofessional!

Brought my service here to see if they could repair a water damaged mac book pro. I did not have any expectations coming in, just maybe that they would be an ethical business. Turn around time for my mac book was about 1.5 weeks, without any updates, other than me calling them to inquire about the prognosis. So when I go to pick it up I was told it was not a fixable situation, but they could back up my data for me. Fine. I ended up paying $ 140 for them to load the data from my mac book onto my own external hard drive that I brought in and took back my dead laptop.
Anyway, after a few weeks I decide to bring in the carcass of my macbook elsewhere for second opinions. My laptop is now functioning with a motherboard that was bought off ebay for $ 250 and a new hard drive cable. Also… something odd I was told was that the model of the hard drive cable did not match the model of my macbook itself. Apparently, in order for the laptop to work, the cable has to match the year and model of the macbook. The people that repaired my laptop have suspicions that Fix that Mac purposely stole this part from my laptop and replaced it with and old useless one thinking I wouldn’t check or ever use my macbook again…
Not trying to direct any blame here, but I’d like an explanation.

Had a very last minute emergency with my 8 year old white macbook, walked in to Fix That Mac and was immediately helped by Beck. He was able to perform a diagnostic right away and concluded a dead corrupted/​hard drive. The whole time he was courteous and patient with my questions about common issues and whatnots about all things Apple.
In the end I told him I could replace the hard drive myself and he didn’t pressure me into having them do the repair which would have costed a pretty penny. But I have no doubt their work is quick and honest and would recommend them if you have any Mac issues!

Rory was kind enough to take in a job that was a bit outside the normal, and despite me not having much experience with what it should cost, it seemed reasonable to me. After removing the memory card from tablet, they didn’t have the right adapter to copy the data. But they got it shortly thereafter and took my data back in to copy under the same order. Friendly staff.
Switching this to a 5-​star review when the job is finished! Thanks Fix that Mac!

I am writing to you from a computer that I would otherwise not be writing from if not for the guys at FTM. (Accidentally spilled water on my MacBook Pro.)
Very happy with the service, customer service, promptness, and they also offer a warranty for 90 days. So far so good and I would definitely recommend these guys. Them for $ 150 or Apple for $ 775. The choice is pretty damn easy. And worth writing them a great review for.

After four days of waiting for my 5^th gen iPod touch…

Instead, my boyfriend and I went up there
and the guy said that it should be ready today… to come back around 5 or 6.
BULL.
I called to check and he told me it was ready.
BUT they were closing.
OMFG!!!
I asked to come pick it up but unfortunately it was too late they were closing.
CRAP
FOUR DAYS WITHOUT MY IPOD. NOW FIVE.
FIVE DAYS TO REPAIR A HOME BUTTON! COME ON!
THEY ARE TOTALLY LAME!
I WILL NEVER BRING MY PRODUCTS TO THEM AFTER THIS.
I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE CALLED ME INSTEAD
I HAD TO GO OUT OF MY WAY.
THEY ARE THE WORST BUSINESS AROUND THESE PARTS.
