I’ve been coming here for about five years now. When I was a freshman at Berkeley I remember eating mediterranean food here for the first time and it was simply delicious. I always get the chicken schwarma plate with half fries and half rice and ask for hot sauce. Honestly, over the years their quality has dwindled. The portions seem smaller, the fries just seem weird, and the rice doesn’t get cooked properly. However, There are times when everything is perfectly cooked and yummy. Tldr: inconsistent, get the chicken schwarma plate or wrap. I’d skip out on the fries now.

While wandering through Berkeley after New Year’s, things can be rather slow. I found D’ YAR was open on my Unilocal app. I ordered a beef/lamb Shawarma, which is not on the menu. The service was very good, polite and attentive, my food came out quickly, all of the ingredients were very fresh and the Shawarma was absolutely delicious! The restaurant is very clean. This place delivers exactly what they advertise. Great job! I’ll be back.

Solid, cheap, and fast Mediterranean food. Much better than its comparables(I’m looking at you, Cal Gyro) in the area. The chicken shawarma plate is my personal favorite and has all the staples– the chicken, the rice, the salad, the hummus, and the pita. There aren’t a lot of meals in Berkeley that leave me feeling just as full and/or satisfied. The gyros and wraps are good but aren’t nearly the deal that the plates are. Perfect college town restaurant.

Yummy food, affordable choices. Always a special(item and drink) for about $ 8. Med. plates run about $ 9 and come with the freshest home-made goodness. Their pita bread is always on point and so good I crave it! I come and get the hummus and babagounoush for parties all the time(comes with pita). So worth the small space and a little wait.

Reasonable prices and great food! I especially like their various plates. They also recently let me switch my order so I could get their daily special, which added fries and a drink for only fifty cents more to my falafel deluxe wrap. Thanks dyar!

The food may be a bit bland, but it’s reasonably filling and healthy — most items I’ve had come with rice, salad, and either meat or falafel. Out of the meat options, I usually get the chicken rice bowl, which is the ideal size for lunch. If I’m feeling a bit hungrier, or if I want the pita bread that comes on the side, I order the chicken shawarma plate or lamb shawarma plate. For the last two, you can get fries instead of rice(and sometimes they run out of rice near closing time). The vegetarian options are okay. Their falafel is a bit dry, but I still order it sometimes because it’s cheaper than the meat but also just as filling.

Kabobs were pretty decent but the works was a mess. Got a flat splatter of humus in the corner which was gone with first scoop with my pita. Salad had no flavor so I guess it was more garnish. The line moved super slow and had to be with sun hitting for 5 mins before making into shade.

I really like d’yars food. Great Mediterranean food to go to. I usually get the chicken shawarma plate which is filling and delicious. It isn’t too pricey but not the cheapest food around these parts thus not the best of college student go to’s. Chicken shawarma plate consists of chicken salad veggies rice pita bread and hummus. It’s cooked well and doesn’t make you feel bad after. You can if you want get fries instead of rice. The place itself is nice small. Not too much room for big groups but 2 – 4 can easily fit. Every time I’ve gone it hasn’t been crowded so it’s good. Definitely recommended!

This place is owned by the same person who owns La Burrita and La Val’s Pizza, and in my opinion, this place is the best of the three by far. For a single serving, the wraps and plates are tasty, and pretty inexpensive. However, D’yar’s catering is where they really shine. They frequently cater for my work, and I look forward to it every time. The lamb is to die for, and everything else is amazing. If you want an event or a meeting catered, look no further and you will not go wrong!

Great food for really good prices. Try the chicken shawerma you wont regret it. The plates are nicely presented and the quality of the meal you are getting is outstanding.

I’m eating here right now and I ordered the lamb kebab plate but they gave me beef. When I confronted the cashier about my food she acted like I didn’t know what lamb looked like and proceeded to say I had lamb on my plate. Disgusting. If you mess up an order own up to it

There are so many amazing food options in Berkeley, I’m not sure how this place stays in business. As I ate my chicken shawarma wrap, I just kept thinking how upset I was that I wasted a meal on this. Chicken wasn’t crazy dry but it wasn’t moist and flavorful either. The portion of filling: wrap was also disproportionate. Def would not come back here again.

I find it quite strange that this place isn’t higher rated for it is our family’s favorite Mediterranean place to date on all of the Bay Area. Granted their restrooms need to be little cleaner and they need to do a better job of retaining their staff, their core staff has been the same and the food(what is think is the) perfect Mediterranean. They don’t have quite the consistency of a chain like The Kebab Shop but the variation isn’t awful(although their French fries need work) and the price point is sweet! There’s hardly ever a time when we’re in the area and don’t eat there. In fact, we’ve traveled 40 – 50 miles one way only to have a meal here. About a 30 visits later and with our huge favoritism towards Mediterranean food, I’d highly recommend this place to anyone.

I had beef and lamb gyro and tabouli. I personally prefer my tabouli with more bulgur wheat and lemon juice. Student friendly serving size.

CHICKENSHAWARMA all the way! FOOD I’ve only tried the chicken shawarma plate & salad from here and both are SOGOOD. That ALONE keeps me coming back! The Chicken shawarma is super flavorful and it’s cooked perfectly, not too dry, just perfectly tender and done right. PLATE: The plate comes with a side salad, hummus, pita bread, rice or fries. I usually stick to rice because it’s so herb-y, has a lot of flavor and I really enjoy it but I’ve gotten the fries before too and they’re super crispy which I love! It’s a win whichever you pick. SALAD: The salad is amazing because of the lemony vinagrette dressing they have. It balances out the chicken shawarma so well as it tends to be a bit too oily(–½ star for that). The salad has a good assortment of veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers and the veggies all taste really fresh, which I love! It also comes with pita bread as well :) The pita bread is always soft and has a slight chewiness to it which I enjoy. SERVICE Not much service, you order and pick up your own plate and bring it to your own table. Bus your own table too. I don’t mind this though! The tables are always really clean every time I’ve gone, despite the slight bleach smell(–½ star). OVERALL COMETRYTHECHICKENSHAWARMAPLATEORSALAD. Plate definitely fills you up(makes me feel a tad heavy though). Salad gives you the good balance of getting to eat the yummy chicken shawarma but also leaving feeling decently light!

This is my newest favorite place to grab an afternoon snack close to campus. The Mediterranean foods(falafel and gyros being my favorite) are excellent, and affordable here. Get a falafel wrap with fries! Or, my secret, I will order only a few falafel a la carte(at .50 a piece). They’ll give it to you with some pita bread and voila, you have an amazing vegetarian snack for less than $ 2. Love this place.

Very very good. Gyros are awesome in general and Kindof hard to screw up unless the meat is funky but this one was off-the-hook ridonkulously delicious. Yum! Best way to nourish my trip to Berkley.

I’ve been here quite a few times on my way home since it’s right on durant avenue, located adjacent to Asian Ghetto. Tabouleh: I did not like it much since it was just overloaded with greens. I think Cal Gyros has way better tabouleh. Chicken Salad: this is really good! It comes with lots of grilled chicken and their house salad. Although I recommend asking for the dressing on the side. Chicken shawarma: i feel like they could definitely add more meat to their wraps because mine was mostly lettuce. D’Yar has good food but I have had some unpleasant experiences here such as mushy/half frozen French fries and barely any meat in my wraps. It’s nothing special but if you’re in the mood for Mediterranean food and don’t want to pay the extra dollar at Cal Gyros, then I would come here instead.

Good choice for«fast food.» I was at Cal for a workshop on a Saturday(sad face) and my group only had an hour for lunch, so we didn’t have much time. I have been here before, but it’s been a while apparently, since this place has done some reno work inside and there are now tables outside as well. Good to see that they are doing well. I ordered the Beef and Lamb Gyro Wrap with Fries and Drink. Fries were nice and crunchy, and the wrap was filling and tasty. Needed a little bit more sauce inside though. Felt it was a little dry. Next time I just might get their Shwarma plate. Several people in my group ordered it and it looked good. If you’re in a hurry and looking for hearty and inexpensive food near the university, this place fits the bill. Plenty of seating inside and out too.
