Trish is awesome!!! I have been going to a different hair stylist for ten years but wanted to find a person in Berkeley for a better price. I couldn’t be happier with the experience I had at this salon! Fabulous deals for haircut with wash and style. Trish is very friendly and open as well as experienced. Two thumbs up!

Getting your first haircut after moving to a new city is always daunting. You roll the dice and hope for the best. So, if you are looking for a solid place, this is it. A+ haircut for a great price.
I called in advance to make sure they weren’t packed, and they told me to come in less than an hour later. In and out in 25 minutes. total wait time 15 seconds. I will absolutely be coming here again.
Also, I have never written a review about anything before, but I felt compelled after my haircut today.

Finding the right hair stylist is really hard but hey 6 yrs living in berkeley I finally found one. Thank you Trish you brought my hair back.

I received many expensive hack jobs over the years, always believing the holy grail of a decent cut in the Bay Area was a myth. But alas I finally found the chalice… and believe it or not, it was affordable too.
As a woman with short hair, it’s a difficult task to find someone really good. Each cut of the scissors is noticeable (there’s no hiding in layers) but Ricardo worked his magic and did an amazing job. If I were staying in town, heck, if I were staying within a 30-​mile radius, he would be my guy.
Still, now that my quest is done, I can go back to the East Coast with a sense of accomplishment. Not because I got a Berkeley degree, but because I found the haircutting holy grail… and its name is Designer Cuts.

This place is pretty good, but I’ve had some problems recently scheduling an appointment. She scheduled me in at four, but was the only person working and had to also deal with the walk-​ins. I waited for thirty minutes and ended up leaving. What’s the point of an appointment where you still need to wait an hour? If you’re getting an appointment, I would also ask if she’s the only person working. If so then there is a good chance you’ll end up waiting.
I’ll probably still go back.

Still my favorite place to get a cut. Each employee has a different style. But they all make me happy.

I came here for a haircut a week ago with a couple of friends. The woman working was friendly and quick. I got exactly what I asked for at an affordable price and pleasantly surprised to find that she was also Vietnamese. I’m quite particular about my hair and I prefer Asian stylists because they just … know how to deal with Asian hair better. Overall good experience!

I’ve been coming here for over two years — that’s 30+ haircuts — and I’ve never had a bad experience. Your hair will be cut exactly how you want it, with good attention to detail. The most I’ve ever waited in line here is about 15 minutes.

I started going here about a year and a half ago after I moved to the Berkeley Area based on Unilocal reviews.
The two people who you’ll find there most often are Trish and Kirt.
Trish does great work. She takes criticisms well and will understand what you’re asking for. She does a fair amount of clipper work and scissor work. I’ll rarely find any stray hairs I have to hunt down and trim to match the rest if I get my cut from her.
Kirt is a factory style worker. He gets you in the chair and out the chair as quickly as possible. He doesn’t seem to take criticism well though so if you ask for some adjustments to his cut you will get some push back. I will find a few stray hairs here every time I get a cut from him.
I get my cut from Trish 95% of the time because she’s friendly and easier to work with.

Came here for the first time today, and Trish was great! She got me in right away on a Sunday when everyone else was booked. I showed her a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like and she did an amazing job recreating it. And, not to mention the unbeatable cost! Only $ 30 for a wash, cut and style! The place was clean, and I definitely plan on returning.

I have short hair and as soon as it gets past a certain phase, it looks like a hot mess. I’ve been to multiple salons in the area and spent upwards of $ 80 just to get it cleaned up. After seeing Trish here, I finally feel like she gets what I’m going for, and the price is amazing. I know I can rely on her for my routine trims from now on. Thanks Trish!

OK, so I’m a compulsive do-​it-​yourselfer. But, the Flowbee does not have a «make-​me-​look-​5-​years-​younger-​with-​a-​hipster-​faux-​hawk» attachment… and I’m not sure Flowbees are sold any more, because they are As Seen on T.V. and, like, it’s 2015 and what the hell is a «T.V.»??? Anyway, between the asymmetric flexibility of my arms and my weak left eye, auto-​haircropping beyond a «Caine From Kung-​Fu» cueball bald shine would lead to certain mockery and/​or incarceration. Sorry, miserly Asian ancestors. I NEED TO PAY FOR THIS SERVICE.
Yet, withhold your furies, great grand-​fathers and –mothers, for Trish and the team at Designer cuts is super reasonably priced. Moreover, they know how to deal with my Straight-​as-​Tron-​Light-​Cycle-​Emitted-​Rearward-​Walls Asian hair. I’ve tried Korean Boy Band, Japanese Asymmetric Faux Hawk, and Standard Asian Faux Hawk. All fantastic from both Trish and Kirt/​Kurt (sp?). High Aesthetic Standards Girlfriend with Yellow Fever generally approves (that’s a very high bar, so we need to grade on a curve here– that’s a very positive vote).
Until I can develop the synthetic biology tools to auto-​tune my hairstyle by genetically programming my hair follicle behavior, I’ll stick with Trish and the team at Designer Cuts. I trust ‘em enough to bring my sons here, who both love Designer Cuts. Good enough for trimming the Family Tree, so to speak.

The space is clean and sleek, and there’s a receptionist to make debit and credit transactions easier. There’s a 50 cent charge to use the card, which no signs or the receptionist told me, but whatevs. 14 bucks for a mens cut.

I made an appointment on the phone a few days ago with Trish for today at 1 (since I’ve been miserable with my hair after a bad bang trim). However, when I got there, I was told Trish wasn’t going to be in until 2. However, Curt was there, and I decided to get a cut with him instead.
He was amazing! My hair looked dull and lifeless before, but now it has body and all the nasty split ends are gone. Feels so soft, too! He even managed to fix my butchered bangs while still saving the length. Honestly glad I got him. Will ask for him next time.

This place isn’t bad for a $ 14 men’s cut. What i like best is that you’re out within 15 minutes of hitting the chair. I’ll have to ask him to go over the sides twice next time, however, because I found a few lonely strands. Not a big dealfor me. On the other hand, I’ve been to some places that stretch to 40 minutes by going over and over and over your hair with the clippers; not needed.
I’ll keep coming here.

Very good haircuts and not expensive at all especially for students. I strongly recommend that place. Plus people are really nice !

I normally trim my own hair because I couldn’t find a salon I love. The places I have tried all gave me a reason not to like: either too expensive that I cannot afford regular visits, or the designer just sucks. But this time I failed at trimming my own bangs, so I found this place on Unilocal,and I have to say I’m really glad I did!
This is a small cozy salon, makes me feel really comfortable. I dropped by on a sunday afternoon and didn’t make an appointment, but the wait wasnt long (10mins or so). My designer was Trish and I love her! She’s professional and friendly. She really listened to what I want. She did gave me recommendations, but she cut my hair exactly the way I asked for instead of doing whatever ways she thinks might be better. She was also efficient and didn’t waste unnecessary time.
The price was fair in my opinion. I had a simple trim and it cost 16 bucks. Overall, this was a very enjoyable and satisfied experience. I think I will become a regular and will definitely recommend this place to friends!

My haircut turned out awesome and it’s because Kirt (I think that was his name) listened to what I wanted and executed it perfectly. When he thought something wasn’t a good idea he let me know and we collaborated on a solution. One of the best cuts I’ve ever had and it only took 15 minutes.
This isn’t a place where you’re going to get a shampoo, scalp massage, and style on top of your haircut, and the price reflects that. I knocked off a star because the atmosphere was a little lacking, there was a single tv and it was showing some banal reality show. Also, when I first walked in there was only one stylist totally hidden from view and it took 5 minutes or so for someone to greet me, in that amount of time a whole family got sick of waiting and left. Could have used a «be right with you» to show they noticed us.
Overall I’m very happy and I can’t wait to go back!

Best haircut I’ve got in forever. Showed up looking like a deformed horse and left looking better I guess. Haha
But I really think this place deserves the good reputation it has. I was a bit nervous when they started since I had some hat hair but they dealt with it excellently. The people are also very kind and if you let them know what you want, they got you. Im definately coming back here again. Additionally it was pretty cheap so thats a plus too. ⁵⁄₅
