I have been going here for several years now. I always have a great haircut, and Joseph is really careful to make sure it’s even; my hair is not easy to get right. On top of that, he is funny and irreverent, but won’t talk your ear off if you’re not in the mood to chat. LOVE his dog, too.

I’ve been going to this shop for about six years now, ever since I moved to Berkeley and found it one day when I was walking around the neighborhood, exploring. My first haircut there was the best one I’ve ever had anywhere, so I was hooked. I keep coming back over the years and the cuts continue to be good. I give him the general gist of what I want and rely on him to use his judgement to make me look my best. The only downside is that his hours are limited and difficult to work with given my work schedule and lately he’s been out of the shop each time I’ve gone by. The price(quite reasonable) is well worth the product, in my experience.

I walked by this place almost everyday for about two years and always wondered how it stayed opened seeing as I never saw anyone coming or going, nor signs of life from the street. I decided to be adventurous and give it a try. Probably not the best decision. I believe the only words the barber said to me were«what do you like?» when I sat down in the chair. I don’t see why he even bothered asking, I feel like he knew how he wanted to cut it and was going to do it his way regardless of what I said. He seemed to be in a big hurry to get my hair cut and out of the shop(I don’t see why, there doesn’t seem to be much business?) Upon closer inspection back home, I found my hair cut to be very uneven. Price is too high for the quality of service offered. The star is for the pet dog he has roaming around the shop, it was probably the most positive part of the whole ordeal.

Joe’s been cutting my hair for six years. He’s taciturn, gruff and has an odd sense of humor, but he does a good job. Not exactly the cheapest haircut I ever had, but Joe gets it done with no fuss and I’m happy with the price. Don’t be put off by his eccentric manner. He knows what he’s doing.

Joseph always does a good job on my hair. He’s not particularly chatty but he’ll give you what you ask for. I’m not sure if he does«stylish» haircuts but for regular men’s haircuts he does good work quickly. His hours can be a bit irregular when the students(Cal) are not around so do yourself a favor and call first. When the Berkeley shop is closed he sometimes works out of «Male Image» in San Francisco

I only gave one star because my haircut at the time wasn’t horrible. But then again it wasn’t great either First he has this poor dog in need of a serious grooming. Which he treats that dog very badly! Then he cuts your hair how he thinks it should be. all while giving you a really mean game face… bad customer service to the fullest!!! After getting cut he uses this 1960’s vacuum to get the hair off you and all the while he isn’t being very gentle using it. Besides the fact of you thinking why am i getting vacuumed at a darn barber shop. His prices are not to par with his work. I would only recommend this place as a last resort when u either have no other place to go. or its just a last minute thing. But if your trying to prepare for a hot night out or want to look really nice. I beg you please don’t go there.

This is the barber I’ve gone to since I’ve started attending Berkeley, and the guy’s done a consistently good job. Not spectacular, I suppose, but enough to keep me coming back to him. I guess a haircut is a personal thing, but I like how mine turns out. Bottom line, he’s worth at least one visit!

Yes, the barber shop has a collection of Playboy magazines. The low price and the presence of such stimulating visuals must be the reason why so many guys go there. Yet, if you actually want a half decent haircut avoid this place. Apparently I am not the only who had issues with an indifferent barber. The guy in charge not only ignored half of my instructions, but then he attempted to minimize the damage by blaming me. As if it wasn’t any compensation the barber tried to claim that the low price of the cost would somehow compensate for my shaved head. The lesson: you get what you pay for.

2 stars since the haircut I got from this place wasn’t egregiously bad, but it still sucked. The guy only paid attention to half of my instructions on how I wanted it cut. And when he decided he was done, he stated so and went to the register to wait for me to pay. Apparently, he didn’t mind the fact that he didn’t hand me back my glasses or give me an opportunity to see how the cut was. It was subpar. In addition to not listening to my directions, the cut was somewhat uneven on the top. btw The cut is now $ 16 and not $ 13.
