A friend introduced me to Carrie’s SharQui belly dancing class at The Works dance studio in Berkeley. Normally, I am horrible at following dance steps. I will go to a class once or twice and then start to resent having to grapevine in tandem with other people. But… this class is AWESOME! Right now it’s a small class(though we would welcome newcomers!) and the atmosphere is pretty laid back. That doesn’t mean that we don’t get it done! I have been to four classes so far and every time I have a great workout and learn these beautiful belly dancing moves. I can feel a difference in my posture and movement. When(not if, but when) I mess up my footwork, I don’t feel embarrassed or chastised, it is easy to get back into the groove with the others. I love this class and I always look forward to it!!! How do you make a great class? You need to have a fantastic instructor like Carrie! She is endlessly patient and talented. I think her personal training knowledge really adds to what she offers in belly dancing. The stretching and warm-up /cool– down exercises are perfectly suited to the muscles we use when dancing. Carrie will change routines for us in sync with the music or whatever inspires us. It is never boring. And… she’s got some amazing moves! Carrie has been belly dancing for many years and when you get to see her actually dance, it’s a treat. I highly recommend Carrie and this belly dancing class!!!
