Bacheeso’s has moved to 2650 Telegraph Ave.(at Derby). Not as great as the San Pablo location, but still pretty good. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of its customers haven’t found the new location; I urge you to come into my neighborhood and check it out. In a building that was once an IHOP, decades ago; still has the exaggerated gabled roof.

I can’t put into words how much I love this place. Relaxed atmosphere, pretty murals, AMAZING food. Skip the menu, just get the buffet, you won’t be dissapointed. I love taking family and friends here because everyone gets what they want. Servers are usually really friendly and the place cares about where the food comes from and their environmental impact. Also, great coffee.

How did I forget to review this place on my last Berkeley trip? My girl friend took my classmate and me here for brunch as our last meal in Norcal. I really had no expectations, and was open to try all their buffet food options. If I recall correctly, the chicken was pretty good and juicy and one special salad was deliciousssss. The rest was meh. New dishes were brought out every now and then. I just wish their desserts were better… My friend liked her fruit smoothie, but her bf thought otherwise. Since it was rainy, inside was humid and the tables felt a tad sticky. I would not mind coming back to Bacheeso’s, but it’s probably not something I’d crave.

I’ve been here for their lunch buffet twice and both times I left with a really full and happy stomach. They offer a good selection of chicken and turkey dishes(Thanksgiving turkey everyday!), and a huge variety of grilled vegetables and salds. Bacheeso’s is the only buffet place I’ve been to that has plain steamed artichokes. So if you like vegetables, this is the place to be! =D And of course, they have all the traditional Mediterranean dishes to offer. Good hummus, greek salad, beef kebop, etc. Their desserts were great too. They make a better rice pudding than any other buffet in Berkeley, its not overly sweet but very flavourful with a great chunky flavour. Yes, the food may be somewhat cold since its kinda slow during lunch especially on weekdays, but I really don’t mind. You can taste the love in everything and thats all that matters. BTW. Even tho you’re supposed to be limited to 2 trips only… they really don’t care if you go back for more. They told me to eat til I’m full(so I went ahead and had 5 loaded plates)

Went here late on a Sunday morning– the breakfast buffet was up and the waitress recommended it, so we(2 adults and a child) went for it. Blech. Almost everything was cold. And tasteless. Tepid, rubbery scrambled eggs and pancakes? No thanks. Even the kid didn’t want it after he tried it– he just went for the clementines his mom had in her purse. And things inside just seemed a bit… dirty. Reading the other reviews, it sounds like maybe the lunch buffet is higher-quality and more appetizing? With actual mediterranean food? Because breakfast was standard breakfast: eggs, pancakes, bacon, etc.

Bacheeso’s lunch buffet is a wonderful experience on many levels… from the quality and variety of the food, to waitress Samantha’s friendly service with a smile, just the right soft background music, and charming interior décor. There are so many different dishes available at this buffet that I wasn’t able to try every single one. Several things I did try were instant new favorites… including a melt-in-the-mouth chicken dish, fabulous salmon and rice balls, and so many amazing salads I wished I had a second stomach. The buffet includes two plates of food and one bowl of soup… and there are fresh fruits and desserts included in the $ 7.90 + tax per person lunch buffet price as well. I’ve often enjoyed a mid-morning mocha and pastry here, as a perfect place to enjoy European café atmosphere in relaxing ambience with background music and a newspaper. I’m especially fond of pastries with fresh fruit and dark chocolate, and Bacheeso’s really delivers the goods in this department. I love the exquisite attention paid to the pastries, some of which I’ve only otherwise enjoyed while living in Switzerland. Soraya is the lovely pastry chef, whose culinary training in Germany comes shining through every single one of her bakery masterpieces. While some people label Bacheeso’s a Mediterranean restaurant, it’s perhaps more accurate to call it a California fresh restaurant. Bacheeso’s buffet menu rotates through a variety of influences, including Mexican, European, and Mediterranean… and through all these changes, I’m glad to see that the delicious baked-fresh-that day pastries will also be there!

Solid, dependable, reliable. And LOTS of food for low price. I’ve been here multiple times in the past, finally got to revisit today. I’ve had the buffet every time(seems the most worth it to me), and it has always been GREAT. Although my timing today(2 pm) was a bit off, and as is the case with buffets, some of the food had been sitting there for awhile(due to lack of traffic). With that said, this is one of my go to spots when I need Med Food, and LOTS of it. At $ 7.90/person(+tax), it is a really, really good deal, and I know I will leave feeling stuffed. The«buffet» actually limits you to 2 plates and a cup of soup, but that’s more than enough. Buffet strategy: Get a little bit of everything that looks good or that you want to try. Once you get a feel for what’s better/worse, use your second plate to get the better things. Pretty common sense, with any buffet =). Basically what you’d expect from a Mediterranean place, with rice, chicken, various pastas, salads, roasted peppers(recommended), hummus, etc. They have roast turkey everyday that they carve for you, which is one of my favorites. The desserts are usually pretty good too, and the soup is very delicious. Service was good, as we got there during a lull. The server was still busy, but very nice. I really like the ambience here too, with great music playing, and bright colors that really add to the personality of the place. There is a sweet mural behind the serving counter, and a cool fountain in the middle. I would definitely take friends here, and let them try one of the best deals in the East Bay.

To sum it up: EVERYTHING here is completely lacking flavor… I had the buffet and tried a little bit of everything. nothing impressed me. They don’t use any garlic or lemon in anything, which is weird considering those are 2 very important ingredients in Mediterranean food. Won’t be back.

This place defines weird. It’s situated on a weird avenue. But this shouldn’t carry a negative connotation; Bacheeso’s is unusually eclectic, grungy fresh, and unforgettably interesting. It’s not just about the eating. There’s a community feel to this Turkish-organic-vegetarian-friendly-what-have-you sort of restaurant, and just sitting and relaxing allows you to take in the whole crazily-sought-for Berkeley experience. It’s unpretentious with its vibe, décor and food, yet it seems to embody Berkeley as a city. It’s mellow. The buffet is definitely a sight for sore eyes. The colorful dishes span the entire spectrum of the rainbow, and each dish appears lovingly made. Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know, but it looks true. The food doesn’t feel American; it sits heavily in your stomach, and has a rather sweet aftertinge, as if everything were sprinkled with rosewater. I don’t really dig the food– everything is amazing with the first 2 bites, and a little overwhelming thereafter–(though it remains very decent, esp. for the price) but the bistro is hardly about food. Bottom Line: Though I’m conflicted between whether this place deserves 3 or 4 stars, it’s definitely a place all Berkeley residents should go. There is a lovely appeal to this corner bistro that can hardly be described.

Alan and I met here for lunch today. We decided to have the buffet, which was generous and tasty. There were four covered containers of food at the beginning of the line and I found them very hard to manage along w/my plate. The first one was soup, which I didn’t have, but transferring servings of the contents of the next three containers was difficult w/o Alan’s help. The rest of the dishes were more easily accessed. There were a variety of salads and hot dishes, all well made and flavorful. I didn’t have room on my plate or in my stomach to sample all they offered. The buffet reminded me of the late, lamented Turkish restaurant on lower University we used to frequent. We can’t remember its name, but it was one of our favorites. When I went back for dessert I noticed they had put out a tray of artichokes. Food is labeled if it’s organic. There was a turkey and what looked like spring rolls beside it. I think I sampled about half of what was put out. I don’t know how they stay in business at these prices, which is what we said about the Turkish place too. I took rice pudding, a slice of watermelon and a couple of strawberries for dessert. Everything was tasty. The buffet cost only $ 7.90 and was well worth it.

I’ve been here twice, once for breakfast once for drinks/dessert. The food’s decent, but if you’re going for Greek/Mediterranean, La Mediterranee is far superior. Aside from the quality of the food, I would never, ever go back here because they have one of the rudest waitresses I’ve ever met. Watch out for this crazy lady! I came here Saturday night to see a friend performing some live music. Ok, a whole gaggle of us came. And we had already eaten. So I understand the waitress not being thrilled. Regardless, there were plenty of empty tables & we ordered a fair amount of drinks/dessert. Which was quite a feat, because she completely ignored our group — while everyone else in the restaurant received table service, our party had to go up to the counter and order. Any time you asked her for anything, she scowled, said«WHAT??» and generally seemed pissed off for no reason. I definitely moseyed out of there with my tail between my legs, and I won’t be coming back. Edit: added back 2 stars because the waitress sent a nice apology. I’ll call it good.

I hosted my husband’s b-day party here. I searched for it on-line(thank you, Unilocal!) Was looking for a buffet with a decent price that could accomodate a variety of tastes and dietary restrictions. Bacheeso’s fit the bill! The fixed-price was nice so I knew what to tell people who would pay for themselves and I could plan how much I would spend for those for whom I needed to pay. The food was good and the variety increased after our first time through the line. We came un-resserved with 18 people at 2pm on a Sunday. The food on the buffet still looked fresh, but as we cleaned them out of some of it and other tastey things showed up to replace it. They new stuff looked fresh-made, which was nice since it meant they didn’t have huge trays of pre-made stuff in the back waiting to come out. There were plenty of vegan(or close enough for me) options, child-freindly pizza, pasta, chicken options. Fish and veggie options for my mother-in-law. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their food. The service was casual, but friendly and accomodating. The only 2 down sides were parking and the fact that the place was a little echo-y and my hard-of-hearing grandfather decided not to eat with us because he had a hard time getting his hearing aides to work comfortably with the echo.

$ 8.50 for buffet aka two plates. Twas def enough for my runner’s diet! But as for quality, meh. It was only worth the $ 8.50. It didn’t surpass that«marker.» As for selection, all food groups in the Pyramid were present, but nothing stood out in my mind. My fave dish was actually the non-med food… sausage + golden potatoes lol. The Pomegranate juice was good. It tasted home squeezed for shores. :)

$ 8.90BRUNCHBUFFET(2 trips + dessert) I piled my plate high the first trip because my eyes tend to get greedy at buffets, but my second trip was much more modest. The buffet is a fucking good deal because you definitely get your fill. There are various salads. There was one minestrone soup. There were lots of potato dishes. There are vegetarian options as well as meat options. The food is generally fresh and it’s a good way to sample mostly everything that Bacheeso’s has to offer without getting an actual entrée. definitely recommended +live accordian

Why my husband is crazy about this place I will NEVERKNOW. It’s fine, I guess — it just tastes like home cooking. And not restaurant-style home cooking, but you know, stuff you make after reading a recipe in Good Housekeeping or something. Stuff like roasted chicken legs, salad and potatoes.(zzzzz) I do not get it.

Came here for brunch on Sunday. It was bustling with business. Staff here was very nice, without being at all helpful while we tried to get a table. The group behind us was seated before us b/c they signed in as a table of 4 … even though 2 of their party were still missing. When we finally got a seat, the table next to me was practically on my lap. Buffet looked good and worth a revisit. Instead since I knew I was going to have an early dinner and I have no self control when it comes to food — I decided to order off the menu instead. The meat omelette was 85% meat and 15% egg. Who am I to complain? The soy chai latte was delicious with sprinkled cinnamon on top.
