Alfonso’s might not be that appealing from the outside but it is a must try. I ordered a chicken crêpe which was fantastic. This is a easy place to get a bite to eat in the morning for a very reasonable price.

What a great find! it’s a tiny little place run by Alfonso. The food is great and the service is friendly.

Really good home made breakfast. I had the breakfast croissant sandwich with turkey instead of ham, and my co-worker had the veggie omelet! I must say when I first saw it I was on the fence because it looks small on the outside. They were really nice and quick. Great for take out or small dining party. The food melts in your mouth and the presentation is original. Great fresh squeezed OJ. What more can you ask for??? Oh how can I forget??? SUPER reasonable(especially since BERKELEY is known for being overpriced!) Be careful not to miss it though it is in a small lot.

The food is mediocre at best. The father son dynamics of the place is worth the visit. If you like eating greasy burnt omelettes to the sound of a father berate his son in Spanish for being useless. Then this place is for you. Let me share with you the same words said to me by the son when my plate was served, «good luck.»

Alfonso’s is a nice quick stop that is conveniently located to the nearby neighborhoods and those shopping on San Pablo. I have eaten here 5 – 6 times and usually get a coffee and a sandwich or crêpe. As with other restaurants that have been in this same location, the food is pretty basic and«heat and serve» quality. I don’t think these people have any more cooking or coffee making experience than my mom and it shows. You will be fed, but it’s nothing you can’t do at home including pretty average coffee. Taste wise, the crepes are better than the sandwiches and a better value. I think the crêpe shells have some sort of sugar in them because regardless of sweet or savory the crêpe has a sweet taste that makes me a little sick combined with eggs and such. I will still continue to come here when I am too lazy or cheap to walk the extra block somewhere else or can’t bear the thought of making my own coffee, but I know it won’t be great or worth looking forward to.

The Breakfast Sandwich is awesome! Ham, egg, peppers, tomato, cheese and pesto! Perfect breakfast after a hard night. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This place is a must try. The food is affordable and delicious and the atmosphere is really quirky; a little place in the middle of a large parking lot(seating is in the parking lot). Highly recommended

I was nearby and had read Unilocal reviews. Walked in and sat down at an inside table. There was a group of three finishing their meals. The young server/grandson walked past me six times. The inside is less than 300 sq ft and I’m 150lbs, how could you miss/ignore me? I went to the cart/counter with keys in hand and asked what I needed to do to order food. Dude told me that I needed to order from the cart/counter. I just slammed my order at him. I had just left communion/confession and I wasn’t tryn to go back. The tip jar was completely see through and bare for obvious reasons. Suggestions: 1) Place signage that informs customers to «ORDERHERE’. 2) Cease and desist from piling 3ft high dirty dishes on the cart/counter to prevent the tribe of shyt flies from having a family reunion with your customers. 3) Greet people when they walk in — I’ll take it in English or Espanol but don’t treat me like I’m ghost in your parking lot establishment. 4) Ask if your customers want water to wash down the egg shell encrusted French toast to prevent a chocking hazard, broken bridges or slashed palettes. 5) Wipe the sticky syrup containers down. It jump starts my OCD. I would rather pay for bad food over bad service anytime.

Tasty little joint. Outside seating under a canopy. Ordered the Alfonso special with bacon and pancakes plus the pastrami panini which was really good. They don’t have the fish sandwich or fries anymore which was a bummer. Definitely give it a try if you’re in the neighborhood…

This place is a must. Really, you gotta get over here. Such a polite gentleman. The food? Wow. My favorite is the spinach and mushroom omelet. Oh yeah

Been driving past here for some time now apparently, and never noticed the café. It’s pretty unassuming, but what a gem! My beloved and I love to eat breakfast out on weekends, pulled in here around 9AM, no other customers. He ordered a bacon omelette, and I ordered a breakfast special sandwich, two lattes. What we got was a lovely conversation with the owner and his son, a great breakfast and the beginning of an excellent day. My husband breakfast enjoyed his omelette, properly cooked, tasty bacon. My breakfast on the other hand was excellent. My sandwich came on a soft french roll, included a scrambled egg, melted cheese, ham, tomato slices, roasted red bell peppers and pesto! Wow! really good. Out the door with two lattes for under $ 25. Pretty affordable. I know we will be back, and soon! !Gracias Alfonso, sus comidas son sabrosas!

Very good tasty food, freshly made. I had the bagel sandwich with ham, egg, cream cheese, avocado(no tomatoes) on an everything bagel. It was very good and big portion size. My husband has the crazy bacon omelet, again very good and big portion size. We also shared a banana and peanut butter crêpe, it was really good(I had to take ½ my bagel to go). The service was excellent and they were very friendly.

It’s a shame I have to write this review because the food is pretty decent, but their service is absolutely horrendous. We ordered two omelettes and crepes and realized that after 30 mins our food hadn’t even started to be made while people who came in after us were getting their food. I asked the chef if our food was almost done and he said it almost was(there was no food being prepared whatsoever when I asked). He made the omelettes. I kindly reminded them about our crêpe and he said they would make it after they’re down with the other omelettes for different orders after ours. It has now been over 30 extra minutes waiting for this forsaken crêpe. Also their crazy bacon omelette had 3 slices of bacon. Not very crazy to me. I want to support mom and pop shops, but they also have to be deserving. I will unfortunately not be coming back here anymore.

I hate to write a bad review for a small mom and pop shop, but I also feel the need to tell consumers my experience. I came in on a Sunday morning. It looked like we were the only one in at the time. We took a look over the menu and order the crazy bacon omelette and the monster crêpe. We watched a couple of people come in after us, but for some reason the chef started cooking their food first. We waited and waited. I’m not sure what happened, but after a while the chef said something along the lines of «there was a miscommunication, your order will be next». At this point I was already irritated because I heard the cashier call out our order to the chef and he even repeated it. But I don’t know if he forgot or just completely decided to ignore us. He didn’t feel the need to cook our meals at that time. But it probably took 30 minutes for us to even get our food, when orders got their orders within 5 minutes of ordering. Service: The cashier(I’m assuming the son) was nice, but not very quick or have a friendly expression. The chef(I’m assuming the father) didn’t interactive with us much. He only told us there was a miscommunication and he would start on our order next. But then he proceeds make another order that is clearly not ours. I wouldn’t have been so ticked off if there was at apology, but the tone of his voice made it seem like it was our fault! Food: I was quite disappointed with the food as well. Crazy Bacon Omelette — There was a good amount of bacon in there, which was great. But the egg was too watery or uncooked. The meal itself had a lot of liquid at the bottom. Not too appetizing. Monster Crêpe — The crêpe itself was good, but I was disappointed because it didn’t come with a lot of the things it state on the menu. The monster crêpe was suppose to be a combination of nutella, caramel, white chocolate, strawberries, bananas, powdered sugar and whipped cream. Although we opted out of the whipped cream… there wasn’t any caramel, white chocolate, or powdered sugar on the crêpe. Quite disappointing. Overall: I cannot recommend this location due to my experience.

Hand made, flavorful creations. Quaint little café, serving homemade food. Crepes are amazing and there is a good variety of both savory and sweet options. I had the avacado crêpe and it was delectable.

Upon pulling up to Alfonso’s, I really wanted it to be a perfect meal so I could rate this place 5 stars. It is so cute and quaint, and looks like a successful family business. Unfortunately I think I came on an off day, and would actually rate Alfonso’s lower if I didn’t genuinely like the family that runs the place and have hope that the business will continue to thrive! Pros: it’s a small, very low-key place. The café itself is very small but cute, and only has a few tables. There are more tables outside, nice for a sunny day. I came on a Saturday morning and there were only 2 or 3 other parties there. So if you’re trying to avoid a hipster crowd of brunchers, this is a low profile option. The food itself was pretty good, and cheap. I think the crêpe was the best thing on the menu. The omelette was good too, but nothing special. They had fresh squeezed orange juice. Thankfully I love pulp, because it was EXTRA pulpy(it didn’t make my friend too happy though). Cons: I think it took at least 20 minutes for me to get my food. The boy working was very apologetic and nice, explaining that his dad is usually there on Saturdays to cook but wasn’t that day, so I let it slide. I hope the length it took for me to wait isn’t normal! But with such a small kitchen, I can’t imagine it being much better. Overall, I didn’t have the best experience here my first time but I’d go again. Good, cheap, hearty food, and supporting a small family business… I’m in!

Remember being taught never to judge a book by its cover? Well, such is the case with Alfonso’s. Here’s the low down… Petite and unassuming, intimate(3 table eatery), in the middle of Berkeley. Major plus: they have their own parking lot(score! Insert happy dance!) Open concept, kitchen is visible and everything is made to order — fresh, fresh! Their menu is composed of 4 white boards, featuring coffee, coffee alternatives, breakfast, salad, panini sandwiches and both savory and sweet crepes. We ordered: 1. Breakfast Sandwich: [egg, ham, pesto, red bell pepper and Monterey cheese on a soft baguette $ 6.95]: Tasty, on a soft baguette. My only complaint: the sandwich was runny, perhaps due to the red bell pepper. Had it been sautéed prior, perhaps it the sandwich would have been less drippy. Nevertheless, it was a delish sandwich, but my advice is to not let the sandwich sit too long or ask for the peppers on the side, to avoid a mushy mess. 2. #3 Crazy Bacon Omelette: [bacon, tomato, onion, spinach and jack with side of wheat toast $ 8.95]: Egg well done, very savory and tasty. My husband’s tip: ask for the bacon to be cook to a crisp to add more texture. 3. 12 oz Café Mocha: $ 3.25 4. Fresh Carrot Juice: Freshly pressed juice of 5 carrots — so refreshing! Lesson re-learned. Don’t let the size deceive you, as this small spot packs a flavorful punch. Will return.

My wife Margaret and I enjoyed a weekend brunch date here recently. Margaret reports that her Avocado Crêpe was«light and delicious.» I ordered the Crazy Bacon Omelette, which was tasty, but did not contain the ingredients listed on the menu(they omitted the veggies entirely and added turkey). At least there was bacon in it! This easy to miss, family-run café, tucked back in a parking lot on San Pablo Avenue, offers both inside and outside dining. However there are many more table options outdoors, so dress accordingly. We sat indoors at one of the three tables available, which was nice and warm on a somewhat cool morning. Favorite things: Prices were really good and it was family-run. Only issue: There was a TV playing news about the recent Napa earthquake, which I found distracting.
