Pretty average food at a chain diner. I sat at the counter and service was very fast and friendly. I had a two egg breakfast with chicken apple sausage and hash browns. The portions were huge but the whole thing was pretty greasy. Prices were reasonable.

I almost didn’t come here after reading reviews about the terrible service, but I’m so glad I ignored the reviews and went anyway! I went on a Saturday morning, around 8am, and the service was wonderful. Very speedy, and they checked on me multiple times throughout my meal, refilling coffee or asking how it was. And the food was delicious! Highly recommended!

This is a great local diner. We were coming home from a night in Bend and stopped here for some Saturday morning breakfast. They were happy to take our name and seat us in a timely manner with exceptional service from our server. The portions were HUGE and delicious. Everything was fresh and made to order. Very, very happy with our experience at this homey diner :)

I have been to most of the Black Bear establishments and I and I have always been impressed with their service; however, this time we had to leave due to the lack of any customer service :(we were seated and our two daughters never got their kid menus(ages 7&9) I told my girls it’s ok, I would ask when our waitress came to our table. The people who were seated after us were tended to first. The next couple that came in after them also received first service, they got their water. My husband finally asked one of the waitresses walking by if we could order, and she said«we will be with you in a minute!» She snapped her eyes and walked by us. I was appalled at her behavior, even the table next to us raised their eye brows at her. My husband told us to leave the table and we left. He did stop by to let the senior waitress know about the other waitresses rude attitude, but apparently it was not her fault(!). This will probably be the last time we visit the Bend Black bear restaurant. I’ll keep to the other establishments who treat their customers better.

This is your typical American diner — the food isn’t glamorous, but it’s hearty and filling(huge portions) and exactly what you’d expect =) Actually can’t wait to go back…

Sleepy little diner. Sleepy little workers who seemed… sleepy. Random gift shop area(really? in a diner?). Not a bad spot if you’re driving through. But if you’ve ever had Denny’s or IHOP, you’ve had this. But I guess neither of those places have gift shops…

Pancakes were undercooked. They brought runny eggs when I asked for scrambled. and the bacon was way over cooked. it was rock hard! they put cheese on our omelet when we said lactose intolerance! Then the second omelet had hairs in it!!! They made a third plate, however we were getting glared at by the waitress and the cook! And we still had to pay full price for everything… Terrible.

Average at best. Food was pretty good but customer service was lacking. Our server didn’t have straws when we asked, got our food with no silverware, never came by to refill drinks and missing part of our order at the end. And then didn’t even offer to take some off our bill for the missing food. Just to give it in a togo box. At least they have breakfast all day. Maybe she was new. Food was good though.

Maybe it’s because we just climbed south sister, but we loved our pit stop here. Almost everyone got burgers and loved them. Great huckleberry shakes and diner atmosphere. Banana cream pie was pretty good, but not a fan of the whipped cream on top.

Went there last night wanted a steak. said it was 10 oz. No way, it was thin as a pancake, over cooked to boot. Waitress never came back to check on us our I would have told her. She did comeback to bring us the check. I told her then and she took half off the steak.

I have definitely experienced better. The staff was friendly, but the food was mediocre at best. The worst of the meals was the«Tri Tip Dinner» A little less The meat was so chewy it was very hard to cut even with the steak knife. The chocolate cream pie was 98% whipped cream. There was a layer of chocolate pudding stuff about 1⁄16 of an inch thick. It was a huge disappointment. The price and the quality were not in unison! When I was asked if I enjoyed my meal I informed them of the issue with the meat. She gave me a $ 2 off coupon for the next visit. No thanks!

Good Burger This restaurant is a chain and offers solid American-style breakfast lunches and dinners, and usually very large portions at a reasonable price. We don’t come here often, but came in for a lunch with some friends this past wee. It was mid week and we were greeted by a friendly waitress and seated quickly. But then again the restaurant was not busy. Had good service no problems and a decent lunch. We continued a long visit with our friends and didn’t feel rushed to leave. Overall a decent place to come. Just a reminder that staff and cooks change fairly frequently in the restaurant business and so consider reviews that are older than 6 –9 months with that in mind, and if the review is over year old maybe you should completely disregard it.

I love this place for breakfast. I can’t figure out why the other reviews are so-so, I’ve never had a bad experience. I’ve eaten almost every breakfast place in Bend, and this is my favorite. The waitresses are nice, the portions are huge, the food is delicious, and the checks are always reasonable.

Looking for comfort food on a cold day, I came in and decided to have Thanksgiving early! Delicious turkey and red mashed potatoes, sautéed veggies and a small side of cranberry sauce(which made it complete). There was a LOT of gravy(like a lot, you’ll see) but easy enough to push to the side and a huge portion of food so plenty leftover for later. I completed my meal with some dessert — yes of course I got dessert even though I had leftovers! I did finish all my vegetables! The pie I wanted was sold out — most of them do pretty early fyi — so I settled on the apple crumb cobbler and it did not disappoint. It was also a huge serving and I could have taken the rest of that home too if I’d wanted! Susan was the only waitress working and she was excellent. Very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is homey and inviting with warm log cabin details and a fun story behind the name. Now if you’ll excuse me, I must slip away into my tryptophan-induced food coma!

We gave Black Bear Diner a try recently and it definitely didn’t meet our expectations. 2 adult entrees and 2 kid meals and the best I can say is that our server was nice. My sandwich was not«toasted», it was black. Burnt. I had to scrape 2⁄3 of each piece of bread off of the sandwich before I could eat it. Maybe the toaster was set at too high of a setting — but regardless — it should not have been delivered to our table that way. I should have sent it back but when eating dinner with two small kids, the goal is «Get in, Get out!» so I scraped it off and showed it to our server(when she was able to come by and check on us). She apologized and asked if I wanted it remade but I had already butchered it and eaten half. At least it should have been removed from our bill. I didn’t ask and they didn’t offer. so we paid our bill and know we don’t plan to return. The other entrees weren’t bad, but they weren’t great either. Just mediocre food that we won’t likely return for. Bend is full of restaurants much more deserving of a visit!

Not worth the stop… If you enjoy Denny’s you may like this restaurant… The service was good the food was poorly cooked and very disappointing. There are many great options for about the same price in Bend and I would encourage you to try them instead.

This place is right by the hospital. We come here every time my hubs has to do blood work… often. I come for the eggs Benedict!!! It’s always good. The wait staff is always friendly and upbeat. They give you toooo much food! Not really complaining.
