Fun times! I paid the extra like two dollars to sit in the very front row on the first night of a trip here. Ended up going to two games, we had such a good time. There’s a beer garden down the 3rd base line with a terrific microbrew selection, plus grilled burgers and dogs. You can get all the regular ballpark fare too. The baseball itself isn’t top quality, but sitting in the sun sipping a beer and watching a ballgame with a bunch of nice folks is a 150-year-old American tradition for a reason. We got into a chat with the folks sitting next to us who gave us some terrific tips on what to do in town.

Seriously, what is not to like about the Bend Elks and Vince Genna Stadium? Okay, if you aren’t a baseball fan, I suppose this may not be your speed. But it’s still cheap enough that on a warm July night, it’s a great place to come for a few hours with friends and enjoy a few beers, a hot dog and leave before the 7th inning stretch while under the guise of watching a baseball game. There is lots of corny hometown fun here. From sing-a-longs to «bark in the park» night where you can bring your canine buddy. When the«K-man» strikes out(a designated hitter from the opposing team) it’s a rush to the beer garden as $ 2 beers are on tap for the next 10 mins. Some things to consider: 1) Parking. Park at your own risk IN the gravel lot. Not from fear of theft or vandalism, but foul balls. We prefer street side parking a block or two away. 2) It’s ballpark food. Not the best you’ve ever had, but certainly not the worst either. Remember, it’s all about expectations. Lower expectations usually reward with a greater sense of satisfaction. 3) Totally kid safe environment. Family friendly. This is hometown baseball and a great place to bring the kids or grandkids and expose them to our nations favorite pastime without breaking the bank. 4) Two dollar Tuesdays are a real bargain! $ 2 entry, $ 2 hot dogs, $ 2 beers. Kudos to the Bend Elks for scheduling home games for ALMOST every Tuesday during their regular season. 5) Do bring a stadium seat if you are sitting in the bleachers. Maybe even a blanket if you are going to stay for the entire game. Could be in the mid 80’s when you arrive and dipping into the low 60’s when you leave.

It may not be the big leagues, but Bend loves it’s baseball teams! On opening night in June the nearly-full stands buzzed with chatter and excitement. Kids followed the mascot, «Homer» hoping for a photo op or a high five. Others clamored near the team locker room, hoping for an autograph from a future major league-er. Favorite local microbrews are always on tap, including Cascade Lakes’ Golden Glove Ale which is only available at ball games. The snack bar does brisk business selling all the regular standby fare. A barbecue deck on the third baseline specializes in burgers, hotdogs, and sausages. Wandering vendors sell bottled beer, soda, and snacks. The players always seem to be working hard but enjoying themselves. The team belongs to a small amateur league. Most of the players are college students or recent high school grads. Many of them are Central Oregon natives. At only $ 5 for a general admission ticket, this has to be one of the best deals in Bend. They also offer discount nights with family packages and«Two Dollar Tuesday». See you at the game!
