Oh what a fun place. A little German hideout in the middle of the mountains. Great food, very nice working staff, fun atmosphere. I brought my wife, and two of my kids and we have a very nice evening. I would definitely recommend this unlikely stopover as you drive into the SC mountains, or as a quick drive up from Santa Cruz.

I was so excited to try this place as it was recommended… Had great NYE meal MINUS the cold strudel for dessert. I’m sad this rubbed me the wrong way, especially since I knew the chef was trying to hurry the meal since it was a busy night(and may I note it was not busy when we were there!). I didn’t even attempt eating the strudel. Not a good way to end our nice evening out, please heat food as it should be. Don’t sacrifice quality for quantity, especially when the rest of our evening and meal were so great! Boo.

Went here for Thanksgiving dinner. My turkey plate came out a little on the cool side, but enjoyable. My vegetarian wife loved her half-cauliflower and broccoli in cheese sauce. The desserts are excellent. One thing, if you make reservations. There’s an interior area near the bar that’s cozy and full of handsome wood paneling and furniture. And there’s the«beer garden,» a sort of drafty, makeshift indoor-outdoor room with _lots_of gas heaters to keep back the drafts. It’s not as much fun. If it’s a busy night, and you don’t specify, they’ll put you in the beer garden. «Well, you need to ask to sit inside.» Fine, but you won’t be told that when you make the reservation. We weren’t, and a couple of other parties seated in the Beer Garden complained and were told the same thing.(We were eating in the beer garden while the bar area was half-empty.

Authentic German food and beer? Yup. Definitely. The servers and bar tenders seem to genuinely love working here. Willing to entertain your stories about how you once took three years of German in high school and applaud you when you pronounce the names of the food correctly. Friday’s are wild game night and we stopped in for the rabbit. Plan on returning the next time they have wild boar!

Maybe I’m not a big fan of German food. What we had was fine, so I’m not sure if German food could have more flavor or if that would ruin it’s authenticity. Cute place, great service, and live music.

A little bit of a drive from SC, but highly worth it! Got a sausage plate and was a perfect amount of food! Very good German beer selection and awesome atmosphere. Perfect for families, dates, couples etc! If this place was closer to where I lived I would go there more often but it is a little drive away! Been to Deutschland earlier this year and do t think I got hearty German food like this while I was there! Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend !

German restaurant in the middle of the Santa Cruz area. Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful staff, and an extensive menu. Everything about this place screams authenticity and homeliness. I really enjoyed eating here. It felt extremely cozy, warm, and welcoming. I will gladly be back, and I will certainly recommend this restaurant to friends and family!

Great authentic German food and atmosphere. Also great for kids! All three adults, a kid and a baby had full happy tummies and cleaned their plates. We forced ourselves to get desert too, who can resist? The bounce house was great fun to keep little ones occupied while waiting for food to come out. An accordion player and friendly staff topped off a great experience. Even the drive to the restaurant makes you feel like you are in Bavaria! We’ll definitely eat here whenever we are in the area!

Cozy, rustic feeling. Sit down service was wonderful, food was delicious and fresh. The buffet however was terrible. The food does not seem to keep well in a chafing dish, or the chef was having an off night. I would go again, but never for the buffet.

Stop making me eat too much. Seriously, guys. That bavarian plate for two? I thought that shit was illegal in California. This place is a weird fairytale in the forest where everything is delicious and full of pork and veal, and everyone but you wears lederhosen. The first time I went, I literally(or so the woman says) put this song on my phone and sang to the food: That’s fine, because she sang to the apple strudel. It’s in a great location, the prices are super reasonable, the beer list is great, and even comes in adult sizes. Oh, and I proposed to my fiancé there just so we’d have to go back every time we’re in CA. No joke.

We love this place. I would recommend it to anyone who loves unique experiences and large portions of delicious comfort food. The style is old school traditional Bavarian with all servers dressed for the part.
Recently we have started attending their buffet nights which are the first Thursday of every month. They have all the traditional standbys like Hungarian gulasch and spaetzle, but also have about 8 entrees that are different every month.(Yes, they call the gulasch a side!) Its such a great way to try all the different foods that are on their menu and get a taste of everything! It’s only 25 dollars a person and usually did is live music by a man with an accordion. Definitely make a reservation! If you love restaurants that are different and eclectic this is a must! They also have wolf game nights and participate in restaurant week.

it was raining. Driving to Ben Lomond is likened to driving to Baden-Baden from Stuttgart, all of sudden you are in the Black Forest. My fascination and familiarity of Bavaria Germany dating back to 1992, when I was very young and lived with a German lady, she was from Stuttgart and I ate everything Bavarian until I was a real adult, by then my acquired taste was formed and comfort food to me was German food, specifically Bavarian food, even more specifically, Swabian speciality. Tyrolean Inn fits the bill, inside and outside. The exterior location reminds me of any number of restaurants in Baden-baden, or Rothenberg, both seemed to have preserved the old country feel and narrowly escaped the bombing in WWII. There are plenty of kinder area. Which is great because it’s very playful and enchanted like the real black forest. My girlfriend was out of surgery and she used to live here, and we drove to the restaurant for some food in a raining afternoon and was welcomed to an empty space(everyone stayed home on a raining Thanksgiving weekend). The fireplaces had real wood logs. The interior of the restaurant took me straight back to Germany, with warm wooden panels and flooring. The atrium area was the best, it shielded us from the rain and the heat lamp was doing its job out there. I can make a mean spatzle, but theirs was fried to perfection, at $ 4 a side dish I could eat this all day long. Bread dumpling was spot on, it tasted exactly like I had in Stuttgart in July. Bavarian plate for two was the highlight of the day. It comes with sauerkraut, red cabbage, smoked pork loin, nürnberger, polish sausage, bratwurst, smoked pork chop, dumpling and fried potatoes. You simply can’t go wrong. I’m a fan of nürnberger and those white bratwurst, I inhale them like air. I make my own sauerkraut so I’m a bit picky, this restaurant got it right. It’s way more crisp than other restaurants I’ve had recently. The fried potatoes were not exactly bad, even better than what I’d get in Germany. The potato salad is a must. I don’t know how many times I’ve eaten Bavarian potato salad and it’s still mouth-wateringly good. Ordered two items from the kinder menu — Batzi Telle is terrific. I taxed some from my boy’s plate. When in Bavaria, especially when you are in Baden-Baden, which is one of the top European destinations in Schwarzwald(Black Forest), you should always order Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte(black forest cake). This is where this restaurant tucked away in the Santa Cruz mountains stood out far more than any other bay area Bavarian restaurant, Suppenkuche included, The black forest cake was fluffy and airy, and was surprisingly similar to the one I had in the Black Forest. I was blown away. The Apfelstrudel was quite delicious too, though I make a mean Apfelstrudel myself that I would say this is on par with mine. There are so many other things I want to try still, I mean many. On occasion I get obsessed with a restaurant that I need to go back there again and again until I’ve tasted everything. This is one of them. But next time, I should probably find out if they had a real cuckoo clock.

They have a nice selection of fresh Bavarian lagers on tap. That by itself is worth 4 stars in my book. I enjoyed the sausages and kaese spaetzel too.
