this place used to be really good but I’m not sure what’s going on with the service. The cupcake frosting is whoa very sugary and heavy. I really enjoyed the macaroons. those are worth every bite.

So, today I was craving a cupcake. Glutenus Minimus has some great cupcakes! I did not go because they are sooo F-ING rude! So I figured I would write a review. Anyways… They do not greet you, thank you, or at the least have a fake smile. God!!! They looks like angry zombies when you are making a purchase. Geez, why did I come here again? I want to go there and I wanna be a customer. But, I hate the service. I would rather EAT my dogs poop then give them one penny. Oh, and I almost forgot. They are way OVERPRICED!!!

Food is really good, they have vegan/dairy-free options, which can be really hard to find elsewhere. On the expensive side, but I’d rather pay more for delicious gluten-free food, than cardboard-tasting gluten-free from the grocery store.

I wrote my original review years ago, and happened to come across it today: I just want to say that the ladies at Glutenus Minimus – including the owner – have found a kinder, gentler way. I have found the experience of shopping there so much more pleasant as time goes by, and it’s nice to feel the humanity along with the deliciousness. ANDTHISBAKERYISDELICIOUS! I was diagnosed with celiac disease exactly 20 years ago and have tried it all. This is truly the best. Thank you.

For everybody who has rated this poorly because of the prices, then you should probably consider the measures this place has to take to a) ensure everything is non-contaminated for those who actually have celiac, and b) the fact that everything is handmade in their facility using better than average ingredients. Unfortunately gluten free & vegan products aren’t cheap. If you want cheap food, buy a $ 10 birthday cake at Shaw’s. The bakery items here are delicious. I’ve tried their cookies, doughnuts, brownies, muffins, and my favorite of all time: their cinnamon buns. In fact, I drive there every Saturday to pick up a cinnamon bun since they only make them on Saturday. I’ve never been disappointed in what I’ve purchased. On the other on hand, I agree that their customer service could improve. All the women there act like you’re asking them to do an aerial backflip when you just want a box to store your cookies in. The owner acts very fake and always has a high-pitched voice that seems super annoyed. Otherwise, this place is totally worth it for the food.

I have several friends that are gluten free. I love to cook, and want to serve dessert and bread with dinner that they can have, so I ventured to Glutenus Minimus. First and foremost, their customer service skills are atrocious!!! Please be polite and friendly to customers when they are spending high prices for your goods. A loaf of bread was $ 10.00! I am by no means cheap, but that is really ridiculous. I might not mind the prices, if I left feeling like my business was appreciated.

The prices are great=1 star Gluten free controlled environment= 1 star Vast variety & creativity=1 star Service is good, owner is rude(like many have stated). So the plus minus negates points and pretty much the case with everything else I’ve tried here. I have tried several things here to give them a fair chance and overall am not amazed enough to go out of my way to return unless in the area. The textures and taste could be better though I truly believe they’re off to a great start! I look forward to changing/updating my review to a better score. By far my favorite item is the pizza but it never has meat on it. The cheese bagels have a great flavor but the texture is way off, perhaps it should be boiled before? Idk I’m not a baker. Cookies & different breads are also lacking something. Cupcakes were dry & dense leaving a cotton mouth feel to it that absolutely requires to be washed down. The baguette is limp and crumbly and the price does not justify the price. All the aforementioned will do when a craving is present but do not expect fireworks in your mouth.

I was thinking about giving this place 2 stars, but then I read several recent reviews and realized that I’m never going back to this place and that this place deserves the dreaded 1-star rating. You would think that a bakery charging $ 4 for a small cupcake and $ 12 for a small loaf of pumpkin bread would understand that if you’re going to demand those prices from customers, then you better be doing everything possible to make the customer experience top-notch. But this place doesn’t have a parking lot and it’s not easily accessible by the MBTA(unless you consider getting off the #73 Waverly bus and hiking for 25 minutes as «easily accessible»). So, they’ve got to try even harder than a cupcake bakery in Harvard Square which is lucky enough to get a lot of foot traffic even if the product is awful. The problem is that the woman at the front counter today was off-putting. I can’t say that she didn’t seem to care. She just seemed to think that her job was to answer questions with the flat affect of a recently lobotomized patient. No smile, no sign of being interested in enticing a customer to try something. It could be that the vast majority of their business is catering, so they really don’t care about their storefront business. But I can tell the owners right away that they are losing far more money than they know. Read the other reviews by people giving this place 3 stars or less. We are all commenting on how bad the customer service is. And the two people with me also decided to cancel the dozen of cupcakes($ 46 at this place) that they were intending to buy because it’s hard to imagine that you’re going to have a mouth-watering orgasm when biting into one of those cupcakes when the staff seems so flaccid. Your product is not so delicious that customers are willing to tolerate unfriendly counter staff. And for people like me who do not have a gluten allergy, I see absolutely no reason to return to this place where the pastries are expensive, where only a couple of items really taste great, and which is significantly out of my way.

I recently started eating gluten free after a recommendation from my doctor, and had heard about Glutenus Minimus many times. I finally made it in and was impressed at the selection of homemade gluten free products. Though I was happy to find options for bread, cupcakes, and even gnocchi, I was not as impressed by the flavors and textures. I found the food to be okay, but not as good as I would have liked it to be. Portions also were very small with big prices, which makes sense with such a niche business. I have been back here twice more because of how close it is to my home and because I really just want to love this place, and have noticed that the staff seem bored and disinterested each time, and are fairly abrupt and definitely not very interested in answering questions.

They had my inner nerd as soon as I heard the Latin bakery name. Follow that up with gluten free treats that go over just as well with celiacs and Gluten Lovers alike, and you have a lifelong fan. This Belmont bakery has a great selection of tasty baked goods including cookies, muffins, brownies, scones, cupcakes and other treats. They also have a selection of gluten free products along the back wall including flours, pastas and other foods. My nephew Ben has a gluten sensitivity but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t going to spoil him and his twin brother Jack with Valentine’s Day treats. So I rushed off to Glutenus Minimus to grab them a sampler platter of GF cupcakes. Both boys(and their parents… and me…) loved the cupcakes and remarked that they wouldn’t have been able to guess they were gluten free if I hadn’t told them. I’m already planning to head back here to use their treats for the boys’ upcoming birthday party!

Glutenus Minimus is a small gluten free bakery in Belmont near the Watertown line. Having a close friend with a gluten allergy, I love to stop by and pick up some random treats here. Their baked goods are really delicious. They are definitely on the pricey side, but their food is second to none. They have mixes available for gluten free cakes and breads, etc. The staff is pretty average, not particularly friendly or unfriendly. I recommend the donut muffins.

Finally stopped in here yesterday, after years of meaning to go in. I wasn’t sure what to expect but was surprised it seemed mildly empty. I quickly checked out the options in the bakery case, hoping for a corn muffin but settled for cranberry. I also picked up a vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting. The staff worker, while not completely unfriendly was rather stone faced. While waiting for my order to process on a cell phone(sigh…) I checked out the small section of gluten free products from other manufacturers. I noticed I had seen nearly all the products at Whole Foods and regular super markets before, often at a much cheaper price. In the end I thought the muffin was ok for GF, though got very dry if you didn’t eat it fast. The cupcake was better, the buttercream frosting was delicious. It was a rather meh experience. Would give it another shot, but was not blown away.

I really want to like this place since they are walking distance from my home. Some of the items they make are quite appealing, but mostly over priced. However, what really turns me off is how unfriendly they are. I recently purchased a dozen cookies here for a fund raiser at my daughter’s school. I asked if they could put them in bags because, as I explained, they were being resold as a fund raiser. The cookies were already quite expensive($ 1.50/each) and they wanted to add $.50 for bagging them. They expressed no interest in the fact that the cookies were for a school that was walking distance from their door, and that I was willing to display one of their brochure. This will be my last visit. I’ve been tolerating the unfriendliness. Today it was painful. No thanks. I can shop elsewhere.

More like a 3.5 stars but I don’t mind bumping it up to 4. Their pumpkin bread is amazing. A little bit on the pricier side but really good. Like most gluten free places I find that with the base being rice flour, it makes it really grainy tasting. Had also gotten a cupcake and muffin to try but thought it tasted like the typical gluten free products out there. Definitely worth going in for the pumpkin bread though!

Amazing. Absolutely amazing! Best GF pizza I’ve ever had– no one would ever imagine it was actually GF. I’ve tried the poptarts and cupcakes as well… literally to die for. The shop is immaculate and they have a great selection. Staff is extremely nice and helpful. It’s expensive compared to a regular bakery but not for a GF bakery. And I’m sure most people will agree that it’s worth the extra money to eat something that actually tastes good and won’t make you sick. I’m heading back on Tuesday to try a panini!

This gluten free bakery is outstanding. A lot of their baked goods taste as good as the real thing, and that is not an easy thing to do. Especially their cupcakes and cookies– they are so good. They have fun flavors like lemon/raspberry/piña colada. Their frozen pizza dough is pretty amazing too– the best tasting gluten free pizza around except for maybe some Flatbreads. The French bread is decent but certainly isn’t comparable to the real thing. The pumpkin bread is heaven, and makes a nice addition to a brunch. They also have a shelf of gluten free items you can buy like pasta, sauce, chips, and their own boxed mixes. The cons are it’s pricey, but then again it’s probably not cheap to make some of the stuff. And I keep coming anyway! It would be nice if more of their items came in dairy free as a lot of their stuff has dairy in it. Funny but I agree on the friendliness factor of the workers there. They just kind of give you this vacant half-stare half-smile. But no amount of lack of social skills will keep me from their cupcakes!

While I’ve not personally visited the bakery, I have now had the pleasure of trying their french bread twice, and sampling two of their muffins. Absolutely wonderful! The bread, like many GF breads, tastes best when lightly toasted. My niece also used it to make some croutons for a salad — those were some of the best croutons I’ve ever had!

One of my favorite memories is the look on my boyfriend’s face the first time that he tried a cookie from this place. He was silent for a long time; I started to worry if he was okay. Finally, he managed to stammer, «It tastes like a cookie.» Beyond loving the fact that this place gives me a surefire way to bring a giant smile to my boyfriend’s face, I really enjoy their food, too. That’s right, I can eat all of the gluten that I want without feeling sick, yet I love the baked goods at Glutenus Minimus. While some gluten free bakers are better than others, it’s really rare to find treats that simply are delicious in their own right. Their goodies don’t all taste like exact copies of the original, but everything that they serve is super moist and yummy. My only problem is not gobbling it all before my boyfriend gets to have some… There are two practical things to note: 1. They only accept credit cards for purchases of at least $ 10. 2. They bake different types of bread each day, which often are not ready until the afternoon. It’s worth calling ahead to see what they have before heading out there.
