I have always trusted this place and treasured it because it made my late Middle Eastern husband so happy. But last Saturday was a big disappointment – except for the spinach-cheese borek. The stuffed grape leaves, usually delicious, were tasteless, mushy and soggy. The pastries(from Canada) not nearly as good as usual. The felafel were dry and tasteless. What is going on? I will try it one more time, and hope this was just a bad day. But I’ve known the place for decades and never ever had such an experience there.

Flew from LA to pick up 18 dozen lahmajuns and bring them back frozen in a large ice chest as luggage. I have tried these in bakeries all over California but the version from this bakery are still the best anyplace.

In my opinion, best lamejun in MA. My family’s been going here forever; we always get some lamejun, spinach and cheese boreks, and kadayif. It’s a great place to stock up on the essentials like teas, spices, grains, and snacks. I stock up on my lentils and dried spearmint for tea here. Nothing beats grabbing some sesame honey candy for the drive home.

A lady who working here was super rude. I’ll never visit here again. I wish I could give this place zero star.

Love this place! I have been going here with my dad since I was a child and have always enjoyed it. Great food, friendly people and I always end up getting more then I had planned to when I go. Just can’t help myself around all this great food!

Best lamejun in Boston area and so much more. You don’t have to be Armenian to love this place, though my Armenian friends do love this place. Great stuff.

I am a Watertown girl. I love the lamejun here! It’s the best. The pita and lavash, tourshi(not sure about spelling) keep me driving to Watertown even though I haven’t lived there in decades. Just picked up Super Bowl foods. When I asked my two little Irish girls what they wanted for the big game, the answer: «please Mom, can we get lamejun, tourshi, hummus, pita and real feta and string cheese, the real kind from Eastern Lamejun?» Absolutely!

I live outside of the Belmont/Watertown area so I consider a trip down to ELB a pilgrimage of the highest order. I have never bought something there that was not wonderful. When I go, I go to stock up. Lamejune, spices, cheese, bakery and other grocery items I just can’t get in stores up here. As a non Armenian I also never feel unwelcome. Everyone there is super friendly and helpful.

First and foremost my family and I have been customers of Eastern Lamejun for generations… literally. This is the ONLY place we shop for our Armenian food and will be the only place until the end of time or they no longer exist(that thought scares me!) This is the ONLY place I buy my Lamejun. We buy both plain and garlic, these are a fast and easy lunch or even dinner if you get home late and don’t want to cook, toaster oven and done! Their food is ALWAYS fresh because A. they’re a quality business and B. they turn it over pretty damn fast. We always buy the fresh Lamejun vs. the frozen probably little to no difference just our preference. If you get the fresh Lamejun you can pretty much just eat it out of the box! My 2nd favorite item from there is their Choreg. SOGOOD!!! also excellent lightly toasted with a little bit of butter or plain straight from the bag. so delicious for you ordars(non– armenians) its an armenian sweet roll that is light and fluffy with caraway seeds. They carry the best brand of string cheese the«armenian style string cheese» from the supermarket doesn’t cut it! It’s the best here!!! I also love purchasing their monti that they make in house! and we always buy our Bastirma… again for you ordar’s, it’s procuitto for Armenians except its beef and not pork. Absolutely delicious. Wrap your Bastirma around a piece of the string cheese and its heaven! Those are the items that I buy prepared, lentils, bulgur wheat, we buy that«as is» to make our own tabouleh and lentil bean salad. Needless to say I love this place, my mom loves this place, my grandmother loved this place, and my great grandmother? you guessed it! LOVED this place. Absolutely amazing and if you give them less than 5 stars shame on you this place is the best around and that’s that!

Wandered in on a walk home once — wonderful selection of delicious middle eastern treats. I oggled at everything but stopped at the counter to order some olives and feta — their fresh feta is out of this world! I tried two different kids — they were amazing and cheaper than the bland stuff you get at the grocery store. Worth the trip if only for the feta!

Many yummy meat pastries, lamejuns — that’s what they are known for. But don’t discount their fair selection of hummus, babaganoush, pita bread, olives, baclava, and muhammara, in addition to other breads.

Before I began dating an Armenian-American, I never knew the deliciousness of lamejun, or lahmajoon, or one of the other six ways this Armenian pizza is spelled. It’s not fantastic, like my husband family makes, but it’s pretty good. Dress it up with lemon juice and chilli peppers and you’ll love your life. Bonus points for the owner who gave a free lamejun for us to try.

Really great, authentic lahmacuns and perfect customer service. I was given a free small box of lentil meatballs when I told them it was my first time there. The lentil meatballs were a little bland for my taste and could use a little bit more spice(hence, the four stars instead of five) although I know I really shouldn’t be whining over a free appetizer. Still, you have to get your lahmacun fix from them as they are far superior than their competition(you know who I am talking about) in the greater Boston area. Tip: Get the meat lahmacun with garlic. After it is reheated in the oven, add some onions, tomatoes and parsley. Finish off with some lemon juice before rolling up your hot delicious Middle Eastern flatbread. NOMNOMNOM

So I’ve been wanting to try Eastern Lamejun Bakers(and Arax Market and Sevan Bakery) forever, but I don’t oft drive about the area with the intent to pick up consumables, so when I spotted a Unilocal deal last year I had to snap it up quick! But of course it wasn’t till the Saturday in August just before the deal was due to expire that I finally step foot into the wide but not at all deep store. Street parking was easily available, although limited to 1 hour, which is fine for a stop at a store, but not as convenient for a sit down meal at a restaurant. Upon entering, I took a walk around to get the lay of the land. As I checked out one of the refrigerator cases along the back wall, I noticed a bunch of shower capped folk in the back room busy at work making fresh goods. Yes, they prepare a bunch of stuff on site! Nice. The store was pretty bright and well kept. I spotted some pita bread by the window on the right ranging from 4 – 6 pieces per bag and priced under $ 2 per bundle. I’ll have to keep those in mind for the future. As it was my first trip, I of course had read through the Unilocal reviews to give me an idea of what to get. On my list were the Spinach & Cheese Borek($ 7.99 for 6), Meat Lamejun($ 15.99 for a dozen or $ 8.50 for ½ dozen), and Stuffed Baby Eggplant(by weight so mine were $ 4.93 for 4). I located boxes of a dozen Lamejun in an open refrigerated area — spicy meat, vegetarian, meat — besides a variety of turnovers, so I decided to ask the lady behind the counter for help, citing that it was my first visit. She came out and helped me to gather up my bounty. One thing I learned was that Borek were the turnovers! Mystery solved! The open boxes of Lamejun on the counter were the ½ dozen count, unlike the sealed(well, taped) ones in the refrigerated box. And the baby eggplants were located among the stuffed grapeleaves on the counter as well. I added to my tally one of the triangular phyllo pastries with cheese sneaking out from a corner(Shabyat $ 1.75 apiece) that was tempting me from its plate on the counter, and left $ 23.17 poorer, but with a hefty white plastic bag in its stead, and instructions on how to care for my finds from the owner/cashier. The borek are good 5 days in the fridge, 3 months in the freezer. To heat up from a chilled(but not frozen) state, nuke it 10 seconds and toast it 5 minutes. As for the lamejun, the meat will dry out if you warm it up open faced, so fold it over and toast in a frying pan 5 minutes? on each side. Lunch was 1 borek(microwaved the recommended 10 seconds, toasted in the toaster oven for 2 light toast cycles), 1 baby eggplant, and the shabyat. A highly satisfying meal! The borek was surprisingly light despite the envelope of dough. The dough was somehow light and crisp on the outside as it was a rather thin layer, while the cheesey spinach insides were moist. The eggplant was extremely flavorful a little bundle. The filling was a higher ratio to the eggplant than I could have imagined. The shabyat was a lighter, crisp, healthier? cousin to the fried cheesecake. Next up, lamejun for dinner… As instructed, I folded one over and started toasting it in a non-stick frying pan with no added oils. I slipped in some spinach leaves, a slice of tomato and a bit of avocado. It was pretty good. The dough, although really thin, was chewy with a bit of a crisp along the edges.

Went there three weeks ago after brunch next door at the Taiwanese Shangri-La restaurant. We intended to window shop only and ended up with half a box of meat lamejun, a full box of walnut nazook, baklava, olives, fresh lebanese bread, baba ghanoush, and some crispy orange dessert thing which reminds me of some sweets in Indian restaurant. My family loves the sweets, the walnut nazook is definitely a must for walnut lovers. Baklava is oh-so good! We ate the meat lamejun the next day for dinner. It was the best I have had in a long while. The lebanese bread stayed fresh and I had the bread with baba ghanoush for supper for the entire weekdays. It was delicious. Will definitely go back for more next time. Will try all the other dips and bulgur wheat salad. The lady and older gentleman who run the store are absolutely delightful. They are extremely helpful and will explain to you everything. All you have to do is ask. Definitely will go back just to see them.

I have never visited this place so my review is limited. I am frequently the lucky recipient of their take out — the lamejuns(meat) are totally fab! heat ‘em i the oven and throw a tossed salad on them and eat like a wrap. Perfect lunch or light dinner!!! My mouth is watering as I type(no wonder my keyboard is a mess!). The pickeled veggies — get them by the gallon!!! So very tastey. The feta cheese(throw that on the lamejun and eat as a pizza) is some of the best I have had as are the grape leaves. Can’t wait to one day actually visit the store :)

My girlfriend and I have not yet begun to explore this place. The prices are good and the hummus and meat pies are excellent. We can’t wait to get pack and buy some more stuff. Their spices look fresh and are very inexpensive. I just need to burn through my cloves and allspice so I can go buy some more here.

So far I love it. The area does not need this many armenian markets, please send one my way! Anyways, tonight was my first time at Eastern Lamejun. When you walk in, its not cluttered and hard to get through like the other markets around, made for a nice experience. I ended up buy everything they had. No really, I did. I love that the meat pies, spinach pies etc come in packs of 5 or 6. I bought the usual box of lamejun, but have not yet tried it. I will update this as soon as I do(probably tonight!) and will be the judge of the best ones! Their olives are pretty cheap, I was surprised yay. The only thing that was a little disappointing(this isn’t even the right word, it wa so much better than disappointing) were the dips and such in the cold case. I wish it were a bit like Sevan where everything is super fresh and they scoop it for you right there, but the muhmara is delicious, spicy and what I was craving. The lamb and rice grape leaves are delicious! The hummus is delicious, the cheoreg is amazingly soft with a hint of sweet. I literally ate everything I bought as soon as I walked in, like 5 mins ago. Love it.
