Very informal place. Family run. Kids and grandparents are always camped out here. Nothing pretentious. The Chinese food is simple and authentic. Owners are very nice and always smiling. I come for the food and to support an immigrant family. Ask the chef to cook something for you if you don’t have any idea what to order.

I went to the Blue Sky Café yesterday around 2pm with my Dad and girlfriend for a late lunch. The service was super friendly and despite a slight language barrier was very welcoming and accommodating. The food was solid. My favorite dish was the teriyaki beef in which the flavor and tender was excellent!

It’s a family owned Cantonese style place, the boss was nice. You can see her parents walking around the picking their teeth sometimes. Not so clean. Don’t mind to go there for a quick lunch.

I’m sorry but my wife and I got food poisoning from this restaurant. It is a family owned restaurant which is nice, but the cleanliness is lacking in some areas. There were many hints my wife pointed out, but I kept dismissing it and making an excuse. We ordered a veggie dish and 2 lunch combos, which came with soup, a rice/meat, and a drink. 1. One of the«staff» members, who is probably a grandmother, was coughing the entire time while serving our food. She did not wear a mask at all and you can just hear her cough while handing your food. 2. When the soups arrived, there was noticeable rice residue on the spoon from the previous meal. When we asked for a new one, the person placed the new spoon directly on the table, instead of on a napkin, inside the bowl, or handing it to us. If you have seen any restaurant clean tables, most places wipe every single table with the same towel. 3. When the drinks arrived, one of which was a hot milk tea, once again you can see an unclean spoon and cup. 4. The broccoli was undercooked, but I will say the rest of the combo box, particularly the meat, was semi decent. They soaked everything sauce. The food poisoning really hit us hard. My wife and I both ended up having diarrhea/vomiting that night, and continued all the way until the next morning. Having to wake up in the midle of the night to use the restroom is not pleasant. Furthermore, the general fatigue you get when you get food poisoning, is not a good one.

This review is long over due. I tried this place a couple months ago and the food was absolutely delicious. I never went inside though, my mom ordered for take out. For as much as we ordered for our family, the food was ready fairly quickly. Will be going back soon.

A little gem if you’re craving legit Chinese food in the peninsula. Tucked away on busy el Camino, you’ll miss it if you’re not looking. You can get a three things special for $ 21 and all of it is tasty and good portions. I’ve been other other three-for places and the meat is always stingy. Not here! Family owned. Couldn’t be a nicer family. I’ve moved away from here but still stop by when I can!

One of my worst Chinese food experiences. The soup tasted like hot boiled water, the garlic(?) chicken we ordered was bland with a white, creamy, nothing sauce. Maybe we ordered two bad dishes, but I left hungry and disappointed.

Today my wife says to me. I want some Chinese food. So I jumped on Unilocal and found this place. As we walk up to the place. I notice they have a box of orange peels outside the front door. When we walk in there are 2 little boys playing and being a little loud. Now I understand that daycare is expensive. But when customers come in. Mom(the waitress) should have them sit down and be quiet! But instead they were loud and running around the restaurant the whole time my wife and I were there. Also there was a guy sleeping on 4 chairs by the front window. I found that to be a bit odd too. There was an old man that was sitting there reading a news paper. I went up and got a menu for me and my wife. And the waitress noticed us when I went to get the menus. She was nice. And brought us better sit down menus, because I had grabbed the take home menus. The food was okay. about a 3 – 3 and a half star. When we finished our meal the waitress walked out the door and took her kids somewhere. Really bad timing for here to up and walk away from paying customers. She came back about 10 minutes later. This whole 10 minutes we are waiting for our bill. Wasting 10 minutes of our time. When she walked in I asked for our bill. She brought us our bill. We paid it and left. Over all service would have to be about a 2. As for restaurant atmosphere I would give it a 0 with 2 kids running, and being loud while we were there. The cost was as noted on Unilocal. We will not be returning here though.

Not bad canto-style café. After moving out of Queens, it’s been hard to find a non-Americanized Chinese food place that does HK style café food. I was surprised to find one randomly in Belmont, which usually is kinda sparse when it comes to Asian food compared to nearby San Mateo. Inside of the store is not really a looker lol… around 12, there were a few tables occupied but they looked like they were filling plenty of takeout orders. Pretty big menu, ok prices(for about 8 bucks I got a fairly large serving of #78, the satay beef stir-fried ramen, which is sha-cha sauce with thin sliced hotpot beef and fried up ramen noodles. While a little greasy and salty, what authentic HK café isn’t? :P Take out took about 5 – 10 minutes after ordering on the spot. Glad to see a place like this exists near me… been missing these types of food joints since moving to the mid-peninsula.

Food is spectacular, one of the best places on the peninsula. If you like super nice places — then this may not be for you. This is a family run place and they have that standard of service and décor. Highly recommend the salt n pepper dishes on the 3– plate menu.

This place is in a tiny strip mall across the street from the Papa Johns and Subway on El Camino. This place is average. It has a very large menu, which has many cantonese items on it. The interior décor is old and dirty, so you may want to just get to go from here. I ordered the Singapore style chow fun, which many had recommended. It was okay, not not notable, the portion was large. I also noticed that they only allow credit card if your bill is higher than $ 20.

The noodle dish, the one with flat noodles and bean sprouts… yummy! The spicy eggplant was very good. They got the texture perfect with a nice kick of heat. I thought the broccoli and carrots, yes carrots, in the broccoli beef were a bit overcooked. This is a great place to get take out when you have a craving for Chinese! I would definitely go back!

I love this place! Cheap and good food ^^ My friends and I ordered their steamed egg, mix vegetables, steamed sole, stir fried beef, ma po tofu and sweet and sour pork. My favourite dishes are the steamed sole, steamed egg and the sweet and sour pork. Their ‘on the house’ soup is really good: winter melon soup: D. I am from Singapore and this is the first time i’ve found steamed eggs in the bay area in close to a year. The eggs have minced pork inside and really reminds me of the steamed eggs back in Singapore. Fluffy and moist. Although you have to be careful of the layer of oil on top. Steamed sole was really yummy. Very light, steamed with ginger, scallions and soy. Sweet and sour pork was very unique! Crunchy pork which is juicy and meaty. I just wish that there were no bones inside. Didn’t fancy their mixed vegetables and vegetables in the stir-fried beef. Too oily for my liking.

An average Chinese restaurant. Tried it once and not dying to return, which is unfortunate given how close I live to this place. There are better in the area.

Overall a ok chinese food place The place is actually pretty ghetto – it’s one of those places where in order to get to the bathroom, you need to go across the entire kitchen. In general the décor of the place is ok, the menu has a lot of selection, and the quality of food is decent – it feels like home-cooked food, where the seasoning isn’t perfect but it feels somewhat healthy. They also give you a free soup with most orders, which actually makes the place feel even more homey! Overall, a fairly decent chinese food place. Worth stopping by if you’re nearby, but not worth an extra detour to visit

I think I would appreciate this more if I were someone who rarely cooks — we ordered 6 dishes plus a clay pot rice. The clay pot rice was good but not exceptional, the eggplant with minced pork szechuan style was the only dish I have liked among all. The other 5 dishes(shrimp paste squid, steamed 3-kinds eggs, veggie stir-fry, etc) were all ok-la…the most disappointing dish was the sweet and sour pork — the pork was on the dry side, and there was not even enough sauce to coat all the pork — quite a bummer since my daughter is a big sweet and sour pork fan.

You need to understand — I live in Cupertino where there is hardly ANY Cantonese Chinese food so when we went to Blue Sky Café after the ultimate Giants game(highest win of 15 against the Brewers! Whoo hoo) we were hungry and anxious for comfort food to extend the«feel good»… And Blue Sky did not disappoint. We got their YUMMY fried chicken wings — which I think is one of the key dishes that they’re known for — lots of flavor, tender, crispy with a bit of bite! LOVED it! And the ultimate comfort food was the salty fish on the steamed minced pork… give me that with rice and I’m in heaven! we demolished that dish — had thin slivers of ginger on it that added more flavor… Also a pleasant surprise was the scrambled egg with lop cheng(chinese sausage) that was a special request from our youngest diner — and OMG — it was DELICIOUS… the light creaminess of the scrambled eggs with the sweet, saltiness of the lop cheng… over rice — PERFECT! AND the last BEST dish we had was the sweet and sour pork! — crunchy pork with the sweet and sour sauce — not OVERLY sauced so you can still get that crunch from the pork — that ALSO was light and meaty… We ordered on the special menu which is three items for $ 22 each — so we got 6 dishes with an extra veggie dish — WHAT a DEAL… so much food! GOOD food at that! YUP — this is our GO to comfort food place — each dish reminded me of home — which is food that mom made or restaurants we would go to in Chinatown in SF!

Good ma po tofu. Seems like this place excels at Cantonese comfort food, hits the spot in that regard. Plus with that and the(totally delicious) spicy garlic eggplant dish I ordered I easily had enough food for 3 meals for not a lot of cash. Skip the milk tea though, mine was grainy and weird.

Stumbled upon this place a few years back when the girlfriend(now wife) was searching for a quick afternoon milk tea. It was a-ok. Fast forward to last month when my brother in-law was doing a job in the area and in search for good Chinese food. Hack, we recommended this place to him and it became a winner in his book, and a regular. Tonight we went with a party of 9 and tried a variety of dishes. All were good and the most stand out was the clay pot with minced pork and dried fish. The aroma of salty fish is the bomb! The clay pot rice was cooked perfectly with tasteful burnt bottom layer. You can’t make that kinda of stuffs at home. As a hole in the wall the service was great. The place is relatively clean. Parking was easy. Food was good and cheap. So if you’re in the area and want very good Cantonese /HK style food, look no further.

Wonderful basil fish fillet! The vegetables are fresh and cut beautifully. The stir-fry sauce is clear and not at all greasy. Moderately spicy and very flavorful. The«A» Choy(Taiwanese lettuce) in bean curd sauce with chili peppers is an unusually savory vegetable dish. Clay pot rice comes in several varieties and sizes. The chicken and mushroom variety was tasty, and included some Chinese sausage and ginger for extra flavor. Scrambled eggs with Chinese sausage is great for a late, lo-carb breakfast. Yang Zhou fried rice is moist and not oily. Good place to bring children: there is a TV for them to watch.

I have been coming here ever since it first opened and I visit for lunch or dinner every time I’m on break from college. It’s a family run restaurant — the staff is very friendly and makes an effort to get to know and cater to their customers. My family and I are regular customers so it’s always nice when the owners welcome us and strike up a conversation. The two young sons sometimes hang around the restaurant, so that’s always nice to see. It was nice to see the business grow. I think they recently renovated and replaced the carpeted floor with a more linoleum-type flooring. If you are out with a 3 or 4 friends or family members, I highly suggest ordering off of the«3 items for ~$ 20»(I don’t remember exact price) menu! The dishes provide a substantial amount of food, along with the additional bowls of rice and soup. Flavor is authentic and tastes just like home.
