Went a few weeks ago for the open mic on a Monday night. Service was good, could have a better IPA selection. To Kenny: make sure the players sound is right, some of these guys practice hard to finally get to an open mic and look foolish without your help. If you started on time and had your buddies play less, maybe everyone could get their fifteen minutes of fame.

Thursday night is really awesome, i’ve never been to a karaōke bar where there’s been a live band before. Some of the people there are rock star quality too, it seems like the kind of place where a LOT of the Long Island rock scene hangs out. if you meet Jimmy the Bartender, you should ask for his autograph, the guy is going to be famous the moment the right guy sees his band«Craving Strange» play, after the Karaōke night and meeting some of the people there, I went to his show and it was fricking AWESOME. But back to Farrell’s, if you’re lonely, if you’re bored, if you just wanna go somewhere to kick back and watch a couple of people make fools of themselves while everyone else hangs back and has a good time, you’re at the right spot the second you get off the train at Bellmore. As Jimmy would say, «Whiskey gives me energy… eyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!»

The only reason this venue got two stars is because the bands are good, the waitress are good and the food is ok bar food. Otherwise, I would not give it even that. I have been going to this venue for years on and off and loved it in the past, however a few years ago they hired a hostess and she guards the place to the point of making it very uncomfortable. We have been staying away because of this and broke down the other night to go see a friend playing in the band(early seating). The place was empty when we got there except for our friends. We walked in after paying $ 10 each even though we knew if we sat at the table we had to buy two drinks each and now you have to buy food. Ok so that was not so bad, but there she was with her clip board and pen jumping at us when we walked in. We said who we were with and that we would like to sit down at the table(I recently had surgery so I can’t stand for long periods of time). She said well, do we want to wait for everyone else before we sat down, did we need a waitress to come over? Well the point of asking to be seated is to sit down and be waited on. She kept coming over and checking to see if we had ordered drinks and food making us very uncomfortable. Then the fun began, we asked for separate checks, no we were told they couldn’t do that but they wanted a credit card. One of the people in our party gave up their card. We asked if we could pay cash as we go since we didn’t want to have to figure out who owed what at the end of the night. No we were not allowed to do that either. Geez, since when does a place not accept cash or pay as you go. Very strange, oh did I mention a couple in our party didn’t make it so they requested we move. There were tables empty so I didn’t understand, but we crammed together and moved a table from where we were sitting. I was so uncomfortable we left. I should have requested a discount since we didn’t stay for the second band. Yes we ordered food and our two drink min., but we will definitely not be back to Farrell’s. And that is a shame because we really did love going there to listen to the live music. Roxanne B.

KJ Ferrells has it all for babyboomers and younger, It’s just a cool unpretentious place. I heard some guy named Kevin is behind it all. He clearly knows about live bands. I have been going there for over 3 years and never heard a bad band. You just have to read the profile or set list on his site to see if that is what you want to hear. .I am not a favor of one hit wonders or bubblegum music but I do find the musicians who play this venue are very good and have a following. I am more into horn bands like UpperCut Very friendly crowd no muscle heads like you see in the Nautical Mile. More importantly is they take there sound system very seriously. It’s well balanced and you could still have a conversation. Love live music? Go to Farrells. Also the food is a step up from your normal bar menue. Chuck Curcio Malverne. NY I support live music. Electronic drums have no soul.

There’s not much good to say about this local«music venue»(read: dive bar with bands) that hasn’t already been said. The bands are repetitive and they draw an older crowd who apparently doesn’t care that they are paying $ 10 at the door and $ 6 for bud light while being crammed in like sardines. 300 yards away, Effin Gruven sits with seemingly endless taps of delicious craft beer and willing folks to serve them. Just can’t think of a good reason to go here. Wait, there’s one, they have all the games on Sundays and usually a wing and beer special with Jeff behind the bar… they get an extra star for that.

Came here on a Monday night for open mic night. If you are in the area on Monday and are looking for a great night come on down. The have a great beer list and food is really good. We ordered the sliders and the cheese steak spring rolls and they were both great! Our waitress was also fantastic, our drinks were never empty and shes was always pleasant. Oh and the music was rocking too. If you are in the area you have to come by for a night of good food, good booze and good tunes!

Saw That 70s Band here June 2013. There was a $ 10 cover and 2-drink minimum. The beers were $ 7 for Bud & Corona. It was pretty pricey. But you can’t get any closer to the band.

Just got home from there tonight from seeing FM, the steely dan cover band, the band was awesome, the crowd not so much, i felt very weird there and it seemed very much like everyone knew each other. i felt somewhat uncomfortable and so did my bf. The band was amazing and i’ll def go back for them but the crowd wasn’t my scene but the bathroom was clean and the beer was cold, bonus

Don’t believe the negative reviews, most of them are dated. I come here every couple months to see Half Step, an excellent Dead cover band. The crowd is exactly what I want and expect, an older crowd of Grateful Dead fans which I just happen to fall into that description too. The service at the bar has always been good. A few times I have gotten a table and the service was good, refills came quickly and the bar food is very good. Highly recommend the chicken wings, cooked perfectly with nice heat. The appetizer sampler is great every time I’ve ordered it; includes wings, potato skins, mozz sticks, chicken fingers and Philly cheese steak spring rolls which are rock stars! They seem to get a lot of the same bands but I assume it’s due to the popularity of the bands as they know what draws the crowds. They almost always have two bands a night with an 8P and 10P start time. My experience has been that at 10P it’s usually starting to fill up and by midnight the crowds thin out a little bit as the more die hard fans stick around for the 10P bands second set. I’m a big fan of KJ Farrells and I’ll see you at the next Half Step show!

Had a great time at this dive bar that showcases some fun party bands. We showed up early thankfully and scored a table right in the middle of the place with an optimal view of my friends band, The Touch last Friday night. That was a goooood move cause this place gets busy from 9pm onward. We ordered some appetizers and I had the steak tacos which were actually pretty good! But the cocktails were a bit weak until about 9pm so I’m guessing we arrived during«happy hour» where things are watered down? And the reason I know is because we were drinking Tequila on the rocks so it was very evident when the increase in alcohol level was noticeable. My friend had a margarita that he said was watered down as well. As far as the crowd goes, it started off a bit meh… but later turned a bit hotter. And since I definitely wasn’t drunk cause of the light drinks, I’m confident the selection of guys was better than I’ve seen in awhile. Not bad for an early Friday night out. I’d go back… but as another reviewer mentioned, I’m guessing the crowd is decided by the band playing that night.

Been here a few different times. This was actually the scene of my last train wreck as a drinker. K.J. Farrell’s patrons and staff had the thrill of witnessing me in all of my drunken glory. It was a decent bar to have my last hurrah in. I had a few people buy me drinks because it was my birthday, everyone in the place seemed friendly and my friends who came to the party looked out for me. My husband was also there too except at the time we just started seeing each other(I’m really surprised he even wanted to call me again after that night). Since my last night as a drunk I’ve still come here a couple of times. There used to be karaōke on Wednesday nights with Barry which I enjoyed. Even though I can’t sing to save my life he usually got me in for every song I wanted to sing. It’s not the cleanest most sparkling place in the world, but it’s not the dirtiest either, it’s alright. I trust them enough to drink some Shirley Temples here. I don’t ever feel uncomfortable here, I don’t ever get a sense that anyone sleazy is lurking about. Ultimately it’s not a bad place to settle in and have some drinks with your friends.

Cool place to see live music; the sound in there is very, very good. Good selection of beers on tap and whatever food I’ve had there has been good as well. Tread lightly as to what bands you go see because the crowd can make or break the place. Last night I went to see a Grateful Dead-esque cover band and I’ve never seen so many inebriated 50 year olds in my entire life. I’m all for some AARP boozing, but not when they start groping each other like it’s the sequel to Caligula. The kicker was the woman without hands(literally) smoking a cigarette inside the place and falling over everyone. The bouncers were quick to show her the exit, which is a point in the bar’s favor.

All I have to say is… I couldnt wait to get the hell out of this place! When I contemplated that I had spent $ 10 on worse things, I knew it was time to leave! Crowd was from 40 — 70 years old… WTF! And crowded… is an understatement. I was looking for the Occupancy limit sign and could not find it. They were WELLOVER the limit. The bar service just down right SUCKED! Do yourself a favor… Stay away from this place… IT’S HORRIBLE!

I had a rockin’ good time at KJ Farrell’s. Live music, great atmosphere and a helluva an awesome band! They are talented and fun to watch perform. Get there early if you’d like to get on the list to sing, because the line will be a long one, but it’s totally worth it. Rock on!

I went to K.J. Farrell’s on a Saturday to see a family friend’s cover band, and had a good time. The demographic was, at least for that night, older than my own, and the fact that the bar is situated literally next door to a firehouse makes it an obvious watering hole for volunteers. I kinda have to gripe about the layout of the bar. When you walk in, the bar takes up the entire wall on the right, then the center of the room is a dance floor fronting a small stage for live music, and the far left has benches and tables for seating. So basically if you want to sit somewhere, it has to be at the small seating area on the left, then push through the dance floor(which was crowded) to get to the bar, and then make the trek back. I don’t know if they use the dance floor for seating when there aren’t live acts, but I sure hope they do. All in all though, I had a good time, and would probably go back.
