Good quality/bad quantity. We ordered take out and maybe it’s better to eat in but honestly we didn’t love it. I would try it again but I wish either the portions were larger or the price lower.

BYOB. Be prepared to stand to eat your food. 5’11″ and I wish I was about four inches shorter. But weirdly enough it was super easy to stand and eat. Place gets busy on a Friday close to 9:30 with tons of take out orders. Only one person manning the counter so can take a few moments to pay etc. Overall– excellent joint to have only a pebbles stone throw away from your apt.

So excited that I have a good Ramen/Japanese place in my neighborhood!(I am Japanese) Great noodles, quick service and no tips!?! I went back for many times, hopefully the place does not get too packed in the future. They started lunch too which is a great deal! Must try if you are in the area. BYOB for now.

Top quality ramen, very friendly staff, in a hip space with good music. Their vegan ramen is really good – add some spicy miso paste – and they’re open for lunch now on most days(something like 12 – 4:30, despite what the hours on Unilocal say). A great addition to the neighborhood!

Good ramen for the price, but the bar is a bit low for tall people! A booster seat for the ramen would be helpful.

I came here recently with some friends who live within a 10 minute walk from this newly opened branch of Samurai Papa. I’ve been meaning to try their original location but have never made it out there. Knowing how mediocre and overpriced ramen is in Brooklyn is, I came to try this spot with very low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised. This branch of Samurai Papa specializes in bukkake pour-over-style ramen. BTW Bukkake has nothing to do with porn here. So get that out of your dirty minds before coming here. You basically get a side of dashi broth to dilute the ramen broth. It’s an interesting novelty but I don’t think it’s needed here. Anyway I ordered the tonkotsu shoyu ramen. Here’s how I rate this bowl: Noodles: Silky smooth noodles. A nice change from most other ramen shops in the city. Broth: Flavorful but not too salty. The dashi broth wasn’t really needed to dilute it. I just poured the dashi in anyway. It didn’t really make a difference. Toppings: 1 slice of melty chasu pork that tasted kind of like pastrami. Would have preferred one more slice! It was pretty tasty nonetheless. Half an egg, nori, eggplant, and scallions. Portions: They serve your ramen in these deceptive looking half concave bowls. So it looks like you’re barely getting any ramen but don’t worry, you’re getting a good amount. A little bit more would have been nice though. Price: Ramen range from $ 10 – 14. Tip is included in the price! Amazing. I love this new trend. Service: Super friendly and welcoming. Not pretentious or very hipstery at all. Overall: I’m glad I tried this spot out. I surprisingly enjoyed my ramen here. It’s solid. Probably as good as ramen is going to get in Brooklyn for now. A solid 4.5÷5 bowls.

Samurai Papa recently opened in Bed-Stuy and brings speedy but solid ramen to the hood. The restaurant is pretty, with high ceilings, big windows, and modern touches. It brings a brand new meaning to minimalist — there are no tables or chairs. Again. It is STANDINGROOMONLY. I believe the intention here is to have a genuine ramen joint feel, where you order, you eat, you pay, you leave. Shooting the breeze is anathema. While this is great for turn over and short waits, it will probably discourage many people from coming. Oh well. The ramen is solid. The portion size is a little smaller than the typical ramen joints in the city, but comes with a thicker broth which you can dilute to your preference with a complimentary cup of dashi broth. The broth itself is surprisingly not overly salty and has a lot of weight — most people should still be full after an app plus their ramen. To echo previous reviewers, each element of the ramen has its own distinct flavor and is prepared on its own. The hard boiled egg has a gooey yolk, full of umami. The eggplant slices are fresh, soft, and refreshing. The pork cha siu is melt in your mouth goodness. It is a bit of a sin that you can’t sit and savor it leisurely. I would have liked to try my friend’s ramen, but we didn’t get around to sharing. We did split a fried agedashi tofu, which was excellent and squishy but crispy. The service is minimal but quick, giving you menus, drinks, your dishes, and then leaving you alone. She didn’t stay to chat or go over the menu and there are no specials that require additional explanation. There is a no tipping policy, as all the dishes are designed to include(hopefully) fair wages.

Welcome to the ‘hood. Everything I’ve had here is great, service is nice, cool music played at the right volume on the speakers. Standing at the counter is a nice change of pace. Prob need an app + noodles to fill up, but everything’s hearty and high quality.

Good service, cozy atmosphere and excellent ramen. A easy in-and-out place but not too busy that you feel rushed. The karaage and gyoza I had were delicious and not overly seasoned. It is byob so bring your beer and eat ramen!

Excellent staff!!! Super hard working and always so pleasant! The pork is out of this planet! I tend to finish my own dish along with my wife’s!!! Love the fact it’s very traditional setting, eat and leave! Excellent addition just in time for winter!!!

This place doesn’t have any chairs. You will be standing at a bar counter while you eat. I did not particularly enjoy this style. The server was really nice, but this places seemed extremely understaffed. Chicken Shio Ramen was okay– the flavor was kind of underwhelming. Pork gyoza was pretty good, though I would have liked them to be a bit crispier.

Bomb ramen, just went for the first time, super fatty /sweet pork, flavorful blend of vegetables and intense base. Can’t wait to try the soba. Love the standing bar concept, and maintains the Japanese ramen tradition of getting you in and out as quickly as possible!

Good atmosphere. Darkened interior. The place looks cool and sophisticated. The staff is great. The best thing about it is the all standing counters. It’s an in & out quick bite joint for the busy people. No commitment to take a seat and get settled and do the whole restaurant routine. Tip is included in the price, yet the price is reasonable. Cheaper than some other ramen places, even. The food was not as fantastic as the appearance of the restaurant. I had a chicken shio ramen. The soup was way too oily and lacked depth. I also do not see the point of the bukkake broth being served separately if the pre-broth soup is not enjoyable to begin with. Everything was great except for the food. I will come back in a month and see how I feel then.

This place is DOPE, I had the curry ramen. The pork is probably the best pork I’ve ever had in a ramen dish. Will be going all the time.

What a great little gem. Delicious ramen. I went to this place tonight and enjoyed the staff and ambience. Be aware that you stand at the bar, there aren’t many seats around.

THIS is why I love NYC. Every time that you think you have found your«spot», something else opens and one ups it. In honor of Letterman’s retirement, I am going to do my first ever Unilocal Top 10 list for Samurai Papa BS. 10) Standing only bar: You eat while standing around the bar. There are no chairs, so obnoxious New Yorkers can’t horde space for no reason. 9) No Tipping: For reals, this is emblazoned on the menus. Gratuity is built into the prices. As a union employee and workers rights advocate, I am 100% in approval of this growing trend in NY(My ramen with an add-on was still under $ 15). 8) Convenience: It’s located about 10 steps away from my local train station(G — Bedford-Nostrand). Score! 7) The vegan and vegetarian option was *complex* and layered(Trust me, this is a rarity. I usually have to trek to Soba-Ya in Manhattan for this). Note: I have only tried one so far. 6) Finally, cozy, warm Japanese broths in(non-Williamsburg) Brooklyn! 5) Kelp Broth: It comes out with your ramen on the side and you slowly dilute your soup with it to your taste. 4) Bowl: Your bowl is perfectly shaped so you can scrape, lick, sip and get every dhana(shout out to my Urdu/Hindi speakers) out of it. Asians of all stripes don’t. waste. food. period. 3) Toppings: Each ingredient is packed with flavor. The eggplant shocked me as it burst in my mouth, but so did the greens. 2) Vegan Ramen: I ordered the one with the tomato broth and it was just delectable — I loved the avocado. NOTE: I ordered w the egg noodles which are vegetarian not vegan. These are way better than the noodles that come w the dish. I recommend choosing them. 1) The«caramelized» egg: I have never tried anything like it. It is semi-hard boiled, marinated in a special soy sauce mix for 2 days and then they somehow make the yolk jelly-like. Order it as an add-on!!!
