I like to avoid mumtaz. I feel like the food is mediocre at its best, overly priced compare to other indian restaurants.

We got chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani. Chicken tikka masala was good, biryani was ok. But their service is super slow. It was just 5 tables and 2 waiters, but it took them 45 mins to take a order and bring our food, we were about to leave when they brought food. Table next to us got their food before us even if they came after us, because they were friends with owner.

Food is good, service was good… but if you look at prices for what you get not good. They were out of what we wanted on a Friday evening before the dinner rush, the plate we ordered was $ 14, for maybe 9 small pieces of chicken, and a whole lot of onions. The Tikka masala was also loaded with sauce it was good, but mostly sauce. For the price and what you get no good!

This place is my go to for take out Indian food. The briyani is excellent. Lamb and chicken curry is great. It is actually a nice place to sit down and eat as well. the owner is very freindly.

Perhaps the worst kebab I’ve ever eaten. It was like trying to suck down a chicken that had been run through a blender then microwaved until it was nothing more than a rubbery mess. Absolutely disgusting. Palak paneer was okay but was almost entirely spinach. Service kinda sucks too. The guy at the front couldn’t get off his phone long enough to even acknowledge there were customers waiting.

1.5 stars. Only because of friendly staff. I was greeted by a very friendly«my friend» gentleman who looks to be in an ownership position. I ask for a menu because I’d like to order«to go». I’m first told that they are out of kebabs. Quite disappointing since it is high noon on a Thursday. One of the most busiest lunch times. So I’m left with curries and biryanis. My first glance at the curries shows that the average price is $ 14−15…for lunch? I pay the price when the food is nice, but I’m going blindly into a place, so if the food is bad, I’m left with more than an empty stomach. I then settle on a biryani. More $ 14 – 15 dishes. I decide I’m going to hedge my bets and go with the egg biryanis. Yes folks, $ 11 for rice and eggs! I’m committed now. I’m told it will be 10 – 15 minutes, so I pay and then head to the restroom to wash up. This is where things really go sideways. Fiends, this place is DIRTY. There is dirt and dust over every square inch of this place. This is not after a busy service(again it’s barely 12:00) — the floor hasn’t been mopped or swept in DAYS. IFTHISISHOWTHEYTREATTHEIRFRONTOFHOUSE, WHATLURKSINTHEKITCHEN? After I get my food and am in car, fine time to realize I haven’t been given any flatware or napkins. I expect to check my food bag at a fast food joint to make sure I have everything, but when I’m paying full price dinner prices for a to go lunch, there is an expectation that I get accoutrements I need without having to ask. Who really cares about the food by now? After chomping right down on to a full sized clove in the rice, and not only giving my jaw a jolt but blowing out my tastebuds with the full power of clove — I realized I should start picking through rice. Sure enough, several hard dried cloves and other spices. Never had a biryani quite like that!

Horror! If you want to die from ingesting a piece of chicken bone this is the place to go. Pakistani chicken curry had nothing but pieces of chicken bones and some skin. Some very small dangerous shards. Naan was from Costco and a few days old. Chicken kabob was made from tofu or something else. It sure was not chicken. Stay away from this place!

Great place to take family and friend. The owner and staff are very nice. The food is great too. I just hope they add some Pakistani dishes like Haleem and Nihari to the menu.

So good! I had the chicken tikka masala and it was SOGOOD! My husband had the lamb biriyani which he said was amazing. His only complaint was that it wasn’t spicy enough which is always his problem anywhere haha but really good and amazing service! Definitely coming back!

I ordered biryani for Togo couple of times. Really its very tasty and I felt different than other biryani restaurant spots. You can prefer which level of spicy you want. Lamb Biryani is a must try. Usually my wife doesn’t like outside food. But she loves to order once in a month here. Never tried other than biryani. Will have to go once and enjoy tasting other items.

Ordered the goat curry and coat biryani to-go(both medium spicy) to split between 3 people. Biryani portion was huge — worth $ 13.45. I could probably split it in two meals. It was perfectly spicy and the rice was very flavorful. The yogurt sauce(raita?) was perfect for cooling down the spice The goat curry was amazing. It wasn’t as spicy as the biryani, and was slightly sweet. I eventually started eating the goat curry with the biryani(it was awesome). The owner also recommended the lamb biryani — I’ll probably try that next time

We found this on Unilocal and ate there last night. Friendly service, tasty food made to order – no scary steam tray buffets here! The owner was there and came and checked in with us which was nice. We had 3 dishes and they all tasted different and good. We aren’t huge eaters so we had leftovers. We went for medium spice which was just right for me. Spice fiends should definitely go for full spice. Large selection of vegetarian and gluten free of course since it’s Indian. Outdoor seating looks like it’s available in nice weather. Looking forward to my leftovers for lunch today!

My daughter and I enjoy curry dishes so we decided on the new Mumtaz Curry Kababs. Since we are not very familiar with Indian cuisine the young lady at the register explain the menu to us. She was very friendly and very helpful throughout our conversation. She took our order of Lamb Curry and the Goat Curry. She then offered us to pick our table or booth. After we sat down, we sat and sat, for quite a while waiting for water or anyone to come to our table. They knew where we were, the place is pretty small and another young lady cleaned the booth across from us. HELLO! ?? We assumed she would come back… so we sat some more till we waved her down. After we received our lunch no one came back to our table for water refills or to see how we are doing. The portions were quite large and good flavor, very simple with a bowl of the curry dish and side of rice… but not worth paying the high price. My daughter paid $ 26 – 28 for two dishes and one glass of water each and no table service. If it wasn’t for the young lady that greeted us there would be less stars in my review. I give the hostess 5 stars because she was awesome!

I met a dear friend for lunch today, I have near zero experience with this type of food, so I got a bit of an education. It was awesome. She ordered for us and we had Butter Chicken, Chicken BIRYANI, and PALAKPANEER. It was delicious, I am hooked on this food now, YAY! I have nothing to compare it to, so it is a 4 star all the way for me. Plus she treated, how nice is that! It occupies the space Metropolitan Bistro was in and they have totally changed up the inside and it is brightly painted, very nice. It was busy as heck at lunchtime. The butter chicken was very tasty, the Palak Paneer was was also very good, the cheese reminds me of tofu somehow. I was not a huge fan of the Chicken Biryani as it had chunks of Cardamom or the pods or something which are not tasty when chewed. The Naan bread was fresh and garlicky and so yummy, I like it dipped into the Raita. I cannot wait to take my husband back for lunch. I will say I think it is pretty expensive for the portion sizes, especially the Palak Paneer. I wish they had some less expensive lunch portions or options. The owner checked on us and I explained it was my first time, he made some suggestions for what to try next. Super nice man. The service was excellent, I really liked it! See Janet M.‘s review for photos!

I have had this place on my radar for a while since Scott N. posted a glowing review complete with a photo of the owner and himself. When a friend reported limited exposure to Indian/Pakistani food, well that got us in the door for an early lunch with my butter chicken inhaling teen in tow. She eats butter chicken everywhere. Anywhere. Always. The inside is lovely. There is also outdoor seating. No annoying music. Friendly staff. The owner came and spoke with us personally. Very nice. I ordered our standard palak paneer, butter chicken, and naan dishes. Then we added chicken biryani too. Medium is plenty spicy btw. I liked all of it. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. Our service was good. Big old glasses of ice water were brought quickly which made me happy. Extra plates were quickly provided when I said we were sharing everything. I don’t have much to complain about except that I thought it was a teeny little bit expensive for lunch. Id give it a 4.5 if I could. The owner suggested lamb biryani which he said is his best seller. I havent eaten lamb in years… but I think I’ll come back soon and try that as he was so convincing. We brought home leftovers. You can guess what Princess is having for dinner, right?

Noticed a new huge sign on the road advertising curry and kabobs, Pakistan and Indian style! Yes please! Found out the new location to open in a few days, but the old location is still in business. Stripped down room with only 3 tables, paper plates and bare walls greeted us, but the warmth of the owner who greeted my husband with a handshake and called him«friend» quickly dispersed any ill feelings. Reviews said biriyani was amazing so, after the urging of the owner, picked lamb biriyani over the goat and Pakistan style curry. Amazing flavors! Rich spicy flavors that danced on your tounge! The hot level is hot! Beware! Will return again. The best biriyani we have ever had! !

Best Indian food I’ve ever had. Not even kidding. Do not be fooled by the lack of ambiance, or the«modest» dining room. If you can enjoy food without all the«bells and whistles» of a regular restaurant, then you will love this place. First of all, the owner is so so nice. Just an all-around cool guy. He makes the food himself(I think), and brings it out to your table. We were there on a weekday night, and our wait was pretty standard, about 15 minutes. Not a long wait at all. The food is f-r-e-s-h. You can taste it. I had a lamb vindaloo, and I seriously wondered whether or not he killed one in some hidden room somewhere just to fulfill my order. In any case, my all-time favorite was the Palak(?) Paneer. So rich, and flavorful, I almost cried on the spot. Even the god damn bread… It was so soft and pillowy in my hands, I felt bad eating it. If I could add one thing to this place, it would be delivery service. My goodness, that would be perfect. This place is truly a gem. Definitely a must-try if you’re a fan of Indian food.

Delicious Indian veggie curries. Reviewing this as a vegetarian. Mumtaz curry stands out with its food quality and taste. The ambience is very basic. Owner came to greet us and mentioned the drinks are on him. We get to select from water and other aeriated drinks. Thanks Mumtaz curry! What stood out for me is their delicious veggie curries. We ordered paneer tikka masala, dal makhani and Saag chole. Food comes in plastic plates. Curries are Very flavorful and rich in taste. Without any doubt it is best Indian/Pakistani curries i have tasted in Portland. They ran out of roti and had pita bread option. Pita bread is not in house preparation. I wish they add some veggie kabab options soon. I definitely recommend this place for its rich and tasty curry dishes and oh yeah samosas as well. I am going again for some piping hot veggie curries.
