I like this place a lot. They use really fresh ingredients, and have fabulous homemade salsas.

Was very sad to find this place now closed upon arriving to have dinner this evening! I read on here that they closed back in late June… It’s too bad as they were a great place, with great food! Maybe they will consider opening at a different location on the westside… :-(

It was a sad, sad Sunday morning… we arrived at La Superior ready to enjoy their wonderful mexican breakfast to find out they are out of business. :(We walked over to Biscuits Café instead… what a BIG mistake. There is another location on North Lombard.

Quaint, awesome little modern place for great Mexican fair. Sad that their lease is up June 24th, 2012. I’m sure the space rent is over priced like everything is at Progress Ridge. So this fabulous Mexican Restaurant will go away, and leave an empty spot in our hearts. Luckily, their North Lombard location is still open. By the way, La Superior has the best and the hottest chocolate based mole in the entire State! Always my fave,

Some of THEBEST mexican food I have ever had. Unfortunatley my husband and I just discovered this place about 5 months ago and now it seems they are closing down June 24th(their lease is up I was told). It really is a shame as there doesn’t come close to anything as good in the area. I always see people come and go from Biscuits for breakfast when La Superior has an AWESOME brunch menu. Do yourself a favor and try this place before it leaves the area. There is another location in NoPo off Lombard that we have not tried but I guess if we need our fix we will definitiely make the trek. A real shame as the restaurant has been steadily busy each time I have been there but the parking situation can be really really unpleasant even though hardly any of the spaces are rented. La Superior please consider another location on the west side in the future!

Since my last review, we have become regulars here for weekend brunch. The Chilaquiles, chorizo torta and corn cakes with shrimp are all amazing! We always marvel at how many people flock to Biscuits Café and wait to be seated for massive portions of mediocre food, when you can walk right in to La Superior and have an AWESOME breakfast instead… One other thing to note: While their spicy bloody marys taste amazing, they are a little light on the vodka.

First time eating here and my Mexican husband and I were very impressed. He knows his Mexican food and he was in love the moment they brought out chips, salsa, and a bean dip. I had the nachos. Every nacho was smothered in deliciousness. We will be returning for more! Service is great and so was the margarita !

Dad took us here last night and while we were seated I whipped out my itouch and quickly Unilocaled this place. Going on the recommendations, we ordered the nachos and were not disappointed. Wow! They were great! I ordered the carnitas burrito but could only eat half since the burrito was huge and the nachos were filling. I highly recommend this place. Don’t the location keep you away. Go and have some yummy Mexican food today!

Very solid restaurant. We went for breakfast to another place but it was full so we stopped in La Superior. The service was great but the kitchen was pretty slow — there weren’t a lot of customers but it still took about 20 minutes to get our food. The server was great though and cycled through many refills of coffee and water while we waited. The food was very good and very reasonably priced — portions are absolutely HUGE! The chorizo and mushroom omelet was very nice(it would have been spectacular with a different cheese combo– it was a jack and cheddar mix and a more authentic Mexican cheese would have really made the dish), the steak and egg taco was brilliant and fresh(and large for $ 2), and the breakfast burrito was bursting at the seams with great flavor. The two salsa were good =- the verde had some kick but the red was somewhat overpowered by smoky chipotle. The only negatives were the coffee tasted somewhat burnt, the kitchen was slow and the pico de gallo seemed a little flat /old. Overall, really solid place and will probably give them a try for lunch or dinner.

This was one of those great restaurant finds that happens purely by chance, then you wonder what you did to deserve such good fortune. Soon after we scrapped our movie plans and started driving randomly in search of dinner, we happened upon La Superior. This is a cavernous yet friendly Mexican joint in a little strip mall, inspiring me to start a list called«Strip Mall Finds». I would judge the food as at least equal to «?Por Que No?», only cheaper and quicker and less hipster. I had chorizo tacos and the girl had chicken fajitas… both were delicious and served in large portions. When the check came, the bill was only $ 32 for two full dinners with beers… not too shabby a deal. We had to box up our leftovers and they were excellent the next day.

We bought a Groupon for the Cinetopia in Progress this week and I guess everyone else did to as there was nowhere to park. So, now what? We started driving back towards the house and thought let’s find a restaurant on the way. This is how we arrived at La Superior Restaurant. I found out that this is a chain of sorts. With one location in Beaverton and one on N Lombard in Portland. We walked in and it was busy at about 6:30pm on a Saturday night. I took this as a good sign. The area is small by square foot but wide open ceilings with three tvs hanging from the ceiling with various sports and other programs on them. We ordered swiftly and chips and bean dip were brought out. You could have guacamole or pico but you have to ask for them. The food came out rather quickly, I was surprised based on what the sign on the wall said about the food is done right, therefore, it’s not fast food or something to that effect. I had the chicken fajitas and they were marvelous. In fact, there was so much left over I had it for lunch the next day. Oh so tasty. It looks like they have chairs available to set up outside when the weather gets nicer so I look forward to trying that. One misfortune and we found a great new Mexican place. Score! I’ll be back again.

Definitely a good spot on the west side for sit down Mexican. It’s one of the better sit down places I’ve been, but ti doesn’t rival the taco trucks still. It’s also a bit pricey for Mexican as well, but they had $ 4 margaritas so I was happy as a clam. It’s worth visiting on the west side. It’s not the most standout place I’ve been, especially for the price, but it’s a strong standout in a pretty bland area of Portland.

We’ve gotten food to go about 4 times now. The food is hit or miss. I think it’s the type of place where you just have to find the one or two dishes you like, and stick with it. So far, have sampled: –Posole soup: Really good homemade chicken soup with a ton of hominy in it. Mix in cabbage, radish, and onions and a bit of their mole sauce and it is a meal on its own. It’s a huge bowl! –Chile relleno: Different than most I’ve had, but good. –Carnita taco: OK. I’d prefer it with some avocado or something. It seemed a little dry. –Ceviche tostada: Really bad. Fake crab meat. Disappointing. –Enchilada verde dinner: Too spicy for me, but for many, I’m sure it’s a hit. When the cold weather hits, I can see myself returning again for a bowl of posole soup. Two final notes: There’s outdoor seating and they deliver.

Went to La Superior for Father’s Day brunch and really enjoyed our meal. I had the Chiquiles and they were excellent. I love the salsa bar. What is up with other Mexican restaurants that will not let you have the super hot salsa you know they have in the back? As an aside, the debates about whether a restaurant is «authentic» or not are boring. It always starts out, «I lived in San Antonio or I studied abroad in Osaka so I know what real –fill in the blank– food should taste like.» I do not care about your dumb life. Was it good or not? In the case of La Superior, it was good and it was head and shoulders about the typical mexican restaurant that just loads up a huge plate with too much rice and beans and a 2 inch layer of coagulated chees. La Superior did not blow my mind but it was definitely worth revisiting. I am happy to have another good dining option in the area.

Hubby and I went there quite some time ago and I am just now getting around to reviewing it. We ate there about 4 months after they opened, giving them time to get their shiznit together. It was a stormy Sunday evening and we decided to get it to go as there was no one else in the place and it felt weird to sit there and eat by ourselves. I spent quite alot of time perusing their website deciding just what to order and what we ended up with with when we arrived back home was just gross. The chips were very obviously out of a bag, their salsa was watery and tasteless. Hubby got the Chili Relleno and it was probably the worst one he had ever had. I got the Enchilada plate and it was just as flavorless and gross. They did have a Salsa bar which was the high point of the meal and I tried them all, pretty good. Overall we were sadly disappointed and vowed to never go back. I am thinking we will eat in sometime in the future and give them one more try!

Very flavorful food. The fish tacos are wonderful. They give you plenty of fresh chips with bean and salsa verde dips. The tortillas are homemade and delicious. The salsa bar also has jalapenas and other goodies. The price is comparable to other Mexican places I have been to in the area… not dirt cheap but reasonable if you choose wisely.

Picked my wife up from Metro Perk and decided to grab a quick bite at La Superior located in the same business plex. La Superior is still struggling to make it’s mark. We had an appetizer, two entrees and couple of iced teas and the bill was $ 33+tip. That is a lot for what is very casual eatery with a bar. The service was friendly and competent. We had the Ceviche appetizer and it was the high point of the meal. Unfortunately, they use fake crab meat but even with the fake crab it was tasty and with a little of their Habenero salsa it was a hit. My wife had the taco salad with carnitas. She enjoyed it and it looked good. The actually use romaine instead of iceberg lettuce. A definite plus in my book. I had the shrimp cocktail. It would have been a ten if it had been served correctly. The shrimp cocktail is supposed to be served chilled. Mine was luke warm at best. Obviously they use frozen seafood and didn’t chile it well after thawing it. On the plus side I ordered my cocktail«spicy» and amazingly it was nice and spicy. Way too hot for your typical gringo but for someone that cooks with ghost peppers it was surprisingly refreshing. So beware if you ask for something to be spicy you had better mean it. Considering the price they could afford to give you free chips and dip. But I’m not going to compare the Barrows establishment to their sister store on Lombard. There is a huge difference in rent between the two locations so you can’t expect the same prices. La Superior has possibilities but they need to get their game together or they won’t be around in a year. I’ll go back again but only once if it doesn’t improve.

Don’t pay attention to the one star review that hasn’t even eaten here. The food is decent for the area it’s located. They have a little bar. The staff is friendly. Their chips are fresh. They have a small salsa bar. The mole sauce is fairly sweet on their enchiladas, and good. The only downside is that they are a little pricey compared to Taqueria Sanchez.

Update: Okay… they’ve earned the other half star. My wife and I went back with the little ones tonight and the food was outstanding. I got carnitas(which technically wasn’t even on the menu as a standalone item… but they worked with me) while my wife got a taco platter that included carnitas, carne asada, and pollo asada. All of the meats were extremely flavorful. Additionally, I discovered a salsa bar that I hadn’t realized existed last time(although, in honesty, the salsa was the least impressive food item of the night). I will say they’re still slow. That’s alright for me…
