I was a HUGE fan of Iron Mutt back a couple years ago and I made a point of spreading the word. Unfortunately, it’s location was horrible in a lot of ways. However, unlike some other reviewers have said, they used to sell Portland Coffee Company coffee here… not«out of the area» stuff. You know, the coffee most folks drank and enjoyed around these parts years before Stumptown outmarketed them. Anyway, the location was good for one thing… it was reasonably close to two area dog parks, which made it a great pit stop for those going to either… unfortunately, if it were closer to either of them, it would have done a lot better. No one likes leaving their dogs in a car when they’re going off to get a cup of coffee because you know that everyone walking by your car is thinking«what kind of jerk locks their dog up in their car like that!» So, as a result of the lack of good coffee stands near dog parks around town, you end up often having to bring water from home when you go out, and just head back home when you’re done. Iron Mutt fixed that for a little while, and how the previous owner Sean and the other employees would get so excited when you brought in your dog was really a nice thing(compared to the«GETOUT!») you get when you go elsewhere in town and just would like to order something and sit outside at a coffee place or restaurant around town, but no employees are coming out to see if anyone wants anything. Kind of makes you never want to go back to those places, and generally tell everyone you know that their business was horrible(and I certainly have done so). Sean knew that by being nice and accommodating to customers while providing for a niche that generally gets abused at most spots in town, those people would go out and evangelize for the place… and a lot of us did. I don’t live anywhere near there, and I’d make the 15 mile trip up 26 past a lot of places to specifically go to Iron Mutt. Anyway, it was an awesome addition to the town, and it’ll be missed by those who knew where it was, even if it was kind of out of the way. If they were located in a prime dog-walking area, Iron Mutt would have put up better numbers than any coffee place in that area, guaranteed… especially back when they were offering the local roast. I gave it 5 stars in my heart back in the day, and now I’m only hoping that the new owners will consider running it the same way. After all, that’s a goofy place for a coffee shop, behind a Mongolian grill and a gas station along a busy thoroughfare. You’ve got to be closer to business or closer to parks and walking areas to be successful. But dog owners will still try to go there because they know they were always welcomed there in the past. I only hope they weren’t pushed out of business by health code folks. To my knowledge, we haven’t had ONE reported case of anyone getting sick at restaurants that provided for dog owners as a result of any form of zoonosis. Iron Mutt was always one of the cleaner coffee places I’d frequent in the area, even with a few dogs in there. They worried a lot more about the health inspectors and would work harder to keep things clean… unlike a lot of people-only dives in this town.

even though the coffee here isn’t amazing, they get an extra star for putting up with Larry. who is Larry you may ask? he’s a crazy, lovable, neurotic dog who is not does not make other dog friends easily. my husband and I stopped in here to grab a beverage while we were in the area with our dog. even though the name of the place has Mutt in it, we were still skeptical. sure enough, the friendly woman behind the counter told us we were welcome to bring in our dog. we sat and relaxed with our coffee until a small bulldog came strutting in. Larry wasn’t too pleased but we kept him calm with his own drink — a cup of water. the bulldog and his owners headed to the patio area(it was a bit chilly so it’s nice that they were willing to do that) while we chilled inside. we were actually almost finished but wanted to wait until the coast was clear. this is a great place to come if you have your pooch with you, otherwise not so much.

Stopped in one day to try it out. Had drip coffee and a muffin. The coffee shop was quaint and neat. The idea of a place for pets to run is a tad quirky, but nice. The coffee was grity and bitter. It’s Café Darte, which is a commercial coffee supplier, much like Boyds or Farmers. These guys should consider a local roaster, like Stumptown or Java Mama. The muffin was pleasant, but seemed like it was made from a mix or bought from Costco. Love the ice cream bar, too. I’ll stop by to bring my kids. All in all, I’d stop in again.

Just moved to Beaverton from San Jose California and I was seriously hoping for a place like this. There is a spot in San Jose called Philz Coffee that is dog friendly like the Iron Mutt, but Iron Mutt has a nice little dog park area where you can sit and relax with your pup. The coffee is great, the people that come in there are great, and it is quite relaxing. Only down sides are that when it is hot outside, there isn’t enough shade outside. Inside could be a bit larger but it wasn’t very busy so I didn’t feel too cramped in there. I’m someone that likes large black leather couches to hang out on. The two love seats they have near the fireplace are just a little too cozy for me. Other than all that, the place is awesome. So glad to find such a neat place in the first few days of living here in beautiful Beaverton.

My husband discovered this place taking a detour to work one morning. He decided to stop in and was hooked ever since. He kept talking about what great coffee they have, especially the«Mexican Spiced Mocha», so one Saturday I begged him to take me there. I have been hooked ever since I tasted my own Mexican Spiced Mocha! We live about 20+ minutes away, but make the drive there every weekend because I haven’t tasted better coffee and the fact that we can bring our dogs, an added bonus! Oh and did I mention they bake their own yummy goodies themselves… i will never drink Starbucks again!!!

After the dog had its fun at Hazedale dog park a little me time at the Iron Mutt. Good selection of coffees and treats, free WiFi, and dog friendly. The little old man sleeps on the easy chair next to me while I surf the web and sip a cup of coffee. Can’t say enough positive things about this place. If you like coffee and dogs a like this is the place for you.

Any place that allows me to hang out with my pooch while I drink some java and surf the internet is cool in my books… especially in Washington County. Oh and the coffee was good and my dog liked the treats I got her!

The coffee is good, the Snickers Mocha is delicious(I like it iced), but the best thing about this coffee joint is that you can bring your pooch! They cater to coffee lovers who also have an affinity for dogs, with a fenced outdoor area for you to enjoy your latte while your puppy enjoys a biscuit and some fresh air. This little shop was conceived by a husband and wife team who decided that they’d really like a place where they can enjoy their coffee and the company of their dogs. They are also involved in local fund raisers helping with shelters and other local causes to aid animals. I was also happy to see that they served ice cream, which is especially nice if you swing by with your kids(the less furry ones).
