Beaverton Jade Sauna

I wanted to like this place because I love Korean spas, and even though it is in a house and very very crunk I thought, hey does all that even matter when you’re getting scrubbed and massaged after saunaing for a few hours?
I walked away with a positive impression. Only two days later did I start to regret my visit. Because I HAVE A RAGING SKIN INFECTION NOW.
I am fairly certain I have a bad case of folliculitis after the scrub and I think it’s because they didn’t use a clean cloth to do the scrub. It’s likely that the cloth they used had someone else’s dead skin in it and that this is why I am now covered in tiny red blisters.
AVOID at all costs. I’m seriously considering calling the health department.

I believe this is the only place close to Portland where one can get a traditional Korean-​style full body scrub. The kind that peels every bit of dead skin off your body and leaves you baby soft for days. That’s what I received at this place, and it was excellent. Dead skin flying everywhere, everything from my nipples to my butt crack scrubbed. Seriously — if it’s not covered in public hair it’s getting scrubbed. Modesty be damned.
As for the spa itself, it is definitely low rent, not comfortable, and possibly has some health code violations.
IMO, it’s normal for a Korean spa to have little regard for modesty and to have the scrub tables, showers, and soak tubs all in the same room (I’ve gotten many a scrub in full view of other clients). It’s also normal for a Korean spa to have a no-​frills, locker room sort of feel.
It’s *not* normal to have hairs stuck to the shampoo bottles and floating in non-​recirculating tubs. I don’t think it’s even legal to have non-​recirculating, unfiltered tubs used by multiple people without a full water change. It’s also not normal to have broken shower heads and mildew all over the shower area.
You do need to bring your own towel to sit on and flip flops because who knows what’s on the floor?
On the plus side, the dry and wet saunas were fine. The lady who scrubbed me was nice, attentive, and washed the rubber table before and after my scrub. The jade room was also pleasant enough, and might be a good place for a little meditation or yoga.
I’m going to go back, because there’s nowhere else to go. Next time, I’ll only use the steam room and dry sauna until I can feel my skin ready for a good sloughing. I’ll go elsewhere for a relaxing soak.
If anyone knows of another Korean scrub place within an hour of Portland, please message me!

My girlfriend treated me to this experience, and I have to admit I was a little apprehensive after having read about cleanliness issues in other’s reviews. I did not have a negative impression in that regards, but I also realize this is a no-​frills spa experience, similar to what you’d experience in China or Korea.
My only complaint is that as first timers we didn’t really know where to go or what to do, and the directions we received were not clear. Fortunately it was not busy when we were there, so we had ample time to relax and hang out.
We did the full scrub experience with olive oil, warm milk & honey. It was amazing! The highlight of the entire experience!
I would suggest that you bring flip flops, your own towel and a container for drinking water. They have a water dispenser, but only little flimsy paper cups. The towels they provide are adequate to use, but very small.
The dressing area is right at the door entrance behind a sheer curtain. Not a lot of space, or privacy, but at least they offer lockable storage for your personal belongings.
They take payment upfront, and stressed that tip was not included, but we chose to tip after our experience — which we did, generously!

My friend recommended me to go to this place and I decided to treat my female part of the family with a package scrub and a massage. First we were to go to the salt room, while laying down on the floor i noticed tangles of hair and dust right next to my face, then we we offered to go to the sauna and use a hot tub… no thank you it was dirty floors and in the tub you could see the line of fat and dirt. No wonder my sister and i got spring worm from that place. On the way out I was going to leave my tips and the lady (owner) started yelling at me that my tips was not enough (I left 60 $ for 3 of us) she explained that her masseurs wouldn’t work for such a small tip. I will never come back there and i wouldn’t recommend anybody.

I was a newbie to this type of sauna, but am a 100% convert after my experience. I was a bit apprehensive, but the facility, although nontraditional, was clean and well laid out. The amount of time spent in each «station» was perfect. And then came the highlight, the exfoliation and moisturizing… I felt like a car being buffed, or perhaps a wooden sculpture being sanded, but in a very enjoyable way. The woman, Kimmy, was super efficient and business-​like which made any potential uncomfortable feelings due to being buck naked and harshly scrubbed by a stranger disappear. I would highly recommend the jade sauna to any woman «no man» :) looking for a bargain and the softest skin you’ve ever experienced.

I go to Korean spas often, all over LA (Olympic, Natura, Wi etc.) and of course love the Olympus spa in Tacoma. Whoever is writing stuff like ‘Korean spas aren’t for everyone, this place is just a traditional Korean spa’ is flat out WRONG. This place is a dump. It would fail every health code violation ever written in the last century.
I got the full spa package, I then immediately went home and bathed extensively. The place is covered in mold and mildew, it reeks, there is hair everywhere, no bleach has ever touched any surface, ever as far as I could tell.
While getting my scrub the floor drain was clogged. The woman stopped the treatment, got a toilet plunger, and spent 10 minutes violently plunging the floor. Hair and skin gobs were floating everywhere in about 4 inches of standing water. MY SCRUBBERS WERE DROPPED ON THE FLOOR, and then re-​used with only a minor wash after I requested it. the water was splashed into our cucumber facial tub. it splashed everywhere, and then we had to walk in it to get to the shower. The massage was a joke. The scrub on the other hand was great, but I in no way felt clean afterwards.
The towels are threadbare and reek of mold. there were stains on the mats in the hot rooms. there was oil floating on the surface of the ‘tub’ which was super not clean. I am always up for an adventure but this was just nasty.

I’m a spa girl, through and through. I work at a spa, I’ve been in the beauty industry for ten years, yada yada yada. I’m quite versed in beauty treatments, not to mention I’ve done TONS of research on European, Asian, and South American beauty rituals to expand my knowledge for both career purposes and my own vain curiosity.
Korean spas aren’t for everyone, but I absolutely love them. My first experience was at a Korean spa in Los Angeles, and I left feeling simultaneously blissed out and regretful that Portland didn’t offer an experience like that. LITTLE DID I KNOW, we have our own little bath house hiding right in the middle of Suburbia.
I’ll make this short, so that it makes for an easy reference.
1) This isn’t a place of relaxation or pampering. This is strictly a place of health and wellness. In pretty much every culture except American, massages/​facials/​body wraps/​saunas are a health necessity and people go at least bi-​monthly to take care of themselves.
2) $ 115 for three hours of meditation, scrubbing, soaking, and facial massage is seriously the deal of the century. $ 115!!! For a full body scrub that will encourage healthy circulation, smooth skin texture and tone, and a freshly-​grated cucumber facial pack that comes AFTER an olive oil facial massage!!! SERIOUSLY!!! I am still in disbelief. And you get full use of the dry and wet sauna rooms. Unbelievable, and awesome.
3) The Asian bath house culture dictates that you’ll be naked for the entire duration of your stay. Just accept it. It’s been that way for centuries in other cultures. I went with a co-​worker from MY spa, whom i’d certainly never seen naked, and we were doing naked yoga poses in the Salt room to pass the time. Totally chill. I pity the person who might’ve opened the door while I had my leg propped up on the wall facing the door.
4)Bring two towels; one giant body towel to sprawl out on in the Jade and Salt rooms, and a towel to shower with. The previous reviews mention the lack of sanitary space in those rooms, and that they’re lightly covered in loose hair and (most likely) dead skin cells. Gross? Sure. Something that you accept with this particular bath house culture? Totally. Just plan ahead, and you’ll be fine. Why would you show up unprepared to lay out on a giant futon that naked strangers have been using, anyways? That’s like showing up to a swingers club without baby wipes.
If you’re looking for the ultimate ladies-​only detox and full body scrub down, check this place out. You won’t be disappointed. It’s a wonderful, healthy way to spend the afternoon, and a great snapshot of Eastern beauty culture.

I don’t write reviews but I just had the most disgusting experience at this spa so I felt like I need to do a public service and post this.
I’m visiting my sister in Oregon for the thanksgiving weekend, and I love korean spas and getting a body scrub/​massage at them, and seeing the great reviews, I decided to give this place a visit. I swear these other reviewers went to a different place. All the showerheads were moldy, and I think there was moss growing at the bottom of one of the tubs (there are only 2 tiny ones). I felt somethimg fuzzy on my bare butt ewwwww! And when I was getting the body scrub, the room was so stuffy and unventilated that the ceiling kept dripping on my face.
Also, all the other korean spas I’ve been to always use a clean, dry towel to put under your face so thaf your face doesn’t have to directly touch the communally used massage table. She did that at first, although it was really thin and already wet when I first lied down, and then when she had me on my back, she massaged my face with facewash and then wiped it off with the towel that was underneath head! Then she had me flip over again, lying with my face down on the gross bare table, and she soaped my body and kept pulling me down the table, causing my face to rub all over the soap that was just on my chest, then on the table, and then on my face. THEN! She asked me to sit up to rinse me off, and because I was sitting up, she had to use her hands to list my breasts and rinse under them. Beyond supremely awkward.
For about $ 50 (I paid $ 45 plus $ 10 tip, prepaid, SUCH a waste), I usually get 40 minutes of pleasant scrubbing in sanitary conditions, moisturizing with baby oil, and shampoo/​head massage. This lady didn’t wash my hair (I don’t know why she bothered to wet my hair when she wasn’t gonna wash it), and basically, she so didn’t wanna be doing what she was doing, so she just half assed through the whole thing as fast as she could (under 20 mins).
I think I’ll take another shower when I get back to my sister’s place tonight. I feel so gross.

I dub this place «Raw Spa», spa for the woman who’s not afraid to bare her dimpled Ass and get it scrubbed hard by an unapologetic and strong no nonsense kind of Asian woman. Where you’ll get basted in olive oil and cured with chunks of cucumber. You’ll get pulled, wrung out, hosed off like an animal, and you’ll like it. Because when all is not said and not done, you’ll be so relaxed you can neither text nor talk. And isn’t that what we really need, my stressed out sistas?

I went there today for the second time and It was a glorious experience!!! I felt like a queen afterwords. I took my time and relaxed completely and let her do her magic and it was magic!!! She was so pleasant and attentive. Yes, it’s not super clean and yes, you might want to bring your own beach towel to lay on. So what? you are getting one of a kind experience for $ 115. I think it is worth your time and money for sure!
I think I was a little hesitant and self conscience first time. I didn’t know what to expect at first and just went with whatever. 3 ½ hour seemed a little long and i felt a bit uncomfortable at times. If you felt that way first time give another chance you won’t regret it! I’m definitely going back there!

I love the no nonsense atmosphere. The scrub down is essential. Book ahead!

It’s a 3 hour experience that costs $ 115. It is NOT a western experience at all! If you are looking for pampering spa stuff with soft music and coconut water this is not your place. I’ve had hundreds, and given thousands of massages, 12 years in the industry and NOTHING in my experience prepared me for this. The The Korean bathhouse experience is fully nude without draping. My bestie and I were side by side and naked prettymuch the whole time. She scrubs you EVERYWHERE. (avoiding your ladybits expertly by half an inch this is NOT a sexual massage, there is no funny-​business at all) Expect her to rub and scrub your whole body. Head, breasts, belly, pubic bone, butt crack are all fair game (and frankly in need of scrubbing). When you see all the dead skin that comes off during the scrub you are both refreshed and disgusted.
As for the massage: This is not at all a ‘relaxation’ massage or a deep tissue massage it was all about purifying the skin and enhancing circulation.
I highly recommend groups of 2 or 4 (they have 2 ‘massage’ tables in the shower area).
The reason I gave 4 stars not 5 is for cleanliness. I do wish they would give you a sheet to lay down under yourself in the salt room and the jade room. The blanket that was in there was covered in hair and the floor of the jade room was likewise hairy.

I wasn’t sure what to expect because of the mixed reviews, but I am so glad I finally made an appointment. My appointment was on Sunday morning at 10am for Package #1. Kimmie was waiting for me when I walked in the door. The shop was very clean and very warm. You pay for the service when you walk in. Please don’t be shy with providing a tip. Its well worth it, believe me!
First stop was the shower, followed by a 40-​minute nap in the salt room. After the salt room, its off to a hot bath followed by the exfoliation session. After the exfoliation, its off to the Jade room for another 40-​minute nap. Final stop is the massage and facial session. I thought I was being prepared for the roasting pan :-). First smothered in olive oil, then in honey, and finally with a milk solution. As far as the facial, cream, honey and cucumber peel. Very refreshing. As Kimmie applies the goo, she performs the massage. Final shower to rinse off the goo, then you’re done for the day.
I was at the shop for a total of 3.5 hours. This was a wonderful experience that I will definitely be repeating again and one I will recommend to my friends. I will recommend you be prepared to take the full 3.5 hours. Relax and enjoy the experience. Its well worth the time and money spent. Thank you Kimmie for a wonderful experience!

I’m not a spa person, as I have a hard justifying spending money on pampering — but this was worth every single last penny. Three of us spent 3.5 hours here for a birthday and I think it’s a perfect Ladies Getaway day for special occasions. We made reservations and had the whole place to ourselves. It’s very simple in décor, and has very good energy. Kimmie & Uni are very warm and welcoming. If you like to walk around naked — this is the perfect spot! If you don’t mind having every inch of you scrubbed down and then bucketed off with water and then getting saturated in an amazing honey, milk, olive oil and fresh cucumber solution — this is for you! I’ve NEVER been this clean and soft in my entire life. It was crazy to see the amount of skin that came off of me.
I recommend Uni, who worked on me. She has amazing hands and it was more like a massage. She zeroed in on some muscle pains I was having and it seemed that her hands just automatically just found them and spent a little extra time there (while speaking non-​stop in Korean with Kimmie the entire time). I didn’t mind them talking during the relaxing cleanse, because it is their culture. I wouldn’t be OK it in an American spa however.
I probably won’t indulge in the full $ 115 treatment more than twice a year — but will be going back to use the facilities (Jade room, Salt room, Mugwort Steam, hot and cold baths) as often as I can. $ 25 for use of that — for as long as you want — is a steal!

Super affordable and all-​womens getaway. The perfect escape — do whatever you want, at your own pace, and the ajima (korean ladies) will let you come out of this place relaxed, detoxed, and scrubbed down. Only downside was the lack of different baths, as they are a majority of different rooms to relax in. Sea Salt Room was by far my fav– snoozed like a baby in there.
Facial is still lasting me two weeks later. Oh so smooth!

Hello Ladies –Just brought another girlfriend to see KIMMY –Yikes !! After completion my friend was sooooo relaxed and happy and feeling so clean, smooth and moisturized after Kimmy’s hands and arms did her magic — She purchased the Number 1 which is a full body scrub Korean style 45 minutes (yes those bits of grey and black are coming off YOU– deep down dirt and crud) then you rest in the Jade room — then 50 minutes of olive oil, milk and warmed honey massaged all over your body with warm towels wrapped around your feet hands and chest while an avocado facial is working your face –Kimmy is no frills –you just have to go in without a tiring attitude of super self importance –SOOO glad I don’t have to travel to Lakewood to the Olympus Spa

Hello my name is Ana, and I am a Germaphobe. One of my biggest upsets would have to be loose hair, even if I know it’s mine, my skin crawls at the sight of it. This being said, I should have known better then to go to Jade Sauna.
Your first thoughts when you see Jade Sauna is that this is the type of place happy endings occur. Upon entering and actually surveying the spa you still have that feeling only its met with a general «this would not pass a health inspection» vibe. Armed with my gift certificate I proceeded with the Package 2 — ex foliation and moisture message. I was told to go shower and hang out in the Saunas.
Off I went to shower up, which is just a big room with shower heads. They do have shampoo and conditioner for you. even some hotel ones. Post shower I headed to the dry sauna which was turned off. I hunted the lady down to get them going. They never reached a high enough temperature. It was just her and I in the whole place for the duration of my visit. You think that they would have relaxing music going, like yoga class or something but its just silence throughout the whole building… creepy.
I figured out how to work the steam sauna. I would press the on button and it would gurgle and make clunking noises until water shot into this bowl. Now… in the bowl was what looked like a towel holding brown unknown material floating in a bowl of brown water. The new stream of water would hit the mystery material and begin to steam. Sketchy… but relaxing once I stopped wondering what was in the bowl.
Time for the exfoliation! I hoped up on the table buck naked and was scrubbed down everywhere. I cannot stress to you enough the everywhere-​ness of this scrub down. I’m talking ass crack and boobs! Every once and awhile I would get douses with warm water and the scrubbing would begin again. This was probably my favorite part of my spa experience. I mean how often do you get someone to ex foliate you ass crack?!
Afterwards I showered again and was told to wait in the Jade Room. They have two rooms in this spa. The Jade Room and the Sea salt room. Now to the untrained eye, me, they could’ve been the same damn room. They each had places to lay down. but otherwise nothing really else. They were each hot, but not hot enough to sweat and be relaxing, just hot enough to be annoying. The sea salt room, the ground is sea salt covered in blanket. how do they wash the blanket? I’m pretty sure they answer is that… they do not. The jade room apparently has healing powers… idk? Don’t even get me started on the loose hair content of these room. Call me uptight but in order to relax I need a relaxing environment. These rooms were not relaxing… In fact I might go as far as to say that they are less relaxing then the average room you encounter on a daily basis.
Then the moister «message». It should be renamed the moister slather because there is no message involved. I was covered in warm olive oil, honey, and milk. Then was was wrapped and left for 30 mins (I feel asleep). This was perhaps the most disappointing part… I was really looking forward to a message. Both the slathering and scrub down were done in the room which was open to the showers. Had there been people showering at the time they could’ve watched this whole thing go down. and I them.
This morning I woke up with itchy irritation all over my legs (rash?).you do the math.

Wish I could write as positive things as others – I found the reviews helpful.
This took WAY longer than it should have. We had package one and were there for three hours, making for a very late dinner after. There was only one lady working there, so the two of us had to alternate waiting for her to be done with the other. The exfoliation was indeed grand, and the results undeniably great.
My massage was done by Sarah, someone who showed up late to work on me and was not Korean. Though it was fine, I left the massage feeling bad about my body! I explained my injuries, aches, and pains, and she gave me WAY too much advice about how to fix it. She identified a mole that looked «suspicious» on my back which I didn’t know about, which was nice but then made me think about melanoma for the next fifty minutes. She also tried to get to me to «Dr. Egoscue’s Pain Free» system, though she told me that she wasn’t getting «a cent» from recommending it to me. She also observed that I needed to use a pumice stone on my heels, and that I could buy exfoliation mitts from the spa. Overall one of the least relaxing massage experiences ever.
The spa itself is kind of spartan, but that was NOT a problem for me. I would go again if I could have a different massage therapist.
Also, you have to pay and tip in advance; you are reminded by the owner to do this. This is kind of weird, because if you don’t like your massage or services, there is no way to signify this using tipping. I tipped 20 bucks to be safe.

I COMPLETELY agree with Kitty P. — she tells it like it is! I am traditionally a total «fu-​fu» fancy girl spa goer — give me a glass of champange, the plush cotton robe and slippers and I am HOME! This is NOTHING like anything I was ever used to.
Prepare yourself to feel like you are literally visiting a 3^rd world country and just surrender yourself to their way of life. All throughout my Package Number 1 endeavor I felt everything FROM language barrier isolation, olfactory offense, unfamiliar group nudity, and questionable health standard practices TO a never experienced level of relaxation, self-​realization, elation, ecstasy and rebirth.
Once I let myself relax and go with the unknown I was transported to a physical experience beyond anything I could have imagined encountering within 5 miles from my typical American surburban home. I have tried various «detox» potions from time to time but nothing compared to the result I felt from this physical overhaul. For 48 hours after my encounter I had continuous elimination from every pore and natural system in my body. I swear I lost 10 pounds not only physically but emotionally as well. This was such a profound experience I have returned only twice a year as to preserve my soul from accidental exorcism in the process.
Hand in hand with Nordstrom’s half-​yearly sale, I look forward to Beaverton’s Jade Sauna experience with a combination of fear, uncertianty and ultimate customer satisfaction which I brag to my friends and family about for weeks afterward. Although this spa is not for those with a weakly vague sense of themselves, it is certianly a great place to start in searching for that sense. I can’t wait to go again!
