I’ve been to bar local quite a few times and I’ve always had fun there. When there’s not a big crowd it’s a great place to hang out and have a few drinks with friends, when there is a big crowd the people watching is superb. The drinks are usually on point although it is often easier to get a drink out on the patio. The food at the taco truck is amazing. The ambiance and décor are well thought out and there is a nod of respect to the old pacesetter in the bar top and the shuffleboard. Also some cool old school arcade games. As far as the swings outside… if you don’t get it, probably just go somewhere else.

1⁄5 stars because the DJ is typically terrible. They play a mixture of hip hop, pop, oldies, 90s, and edm in no order at all. One second is Run DMC, the next is Britney Spears, then they are playing Lincoln Park. I don’t think it would be so difficult to get a decent DJ, just hasn’t happened. I like the layout of the bar, and never had a problem with the service. Good amount of staff to serve a packed house on the busy nights.

Wish there was more space outside. I love the redone look and big dance floor. Definitely a better setup than Pacesetter. The food truck is the best aspect of this place.(Parking lot is shady, but that’s due to the church’s fault. Always have an escort to your vehicle ladies.)

So I happened to be in Beaumont on some business and had the opportunity stop by here opening night. I have been a long time fan of the Pace Setter and always had the best times there. I am however not sad to see growth and change in this area of town. Bar Local has been completely redesigned. Its nothing like Pace Setter, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I will say that music being played when I was there was somewhat disappointing, C+C Music Factory. really? I get the audience they are going for but I almost feel like they must think their target audience is filled with children or mentally challenged adults which is clearly not the case. There are swings on the patio. you know like from a play ground. Now these swings you cant actually swing in or you would crash into the fence or hit a bar patron. I can only assume they are there as seats. I cant tell you how disturbed I am by the complete lack of logic involved in installing swings that you cant swing in. The line to get a drink at the front bar was atrocious. I know it was their first night being open but I cant help but think you should be prepared to deal with a busy first night. The bartender at the front bar got my order wrong and seemed to only want to take my order 1 drink at a time. I was trying to order drinks for a total of five people. I was in town and had friends with me and felt generous and wanted to buy them drinks. I don’t think this is that abnormal. I got 3 of the 5 drinks and then got completely ignored by the bartender as they moved on to other patrons. I walked to the outside bar which did seem to be running much more smoothly and managed to get the other drinks I’d been trying to order rather swiftly. I definitely hope to see them get control of these minor service issues. The patio here is nice and a pleasant surprise from the rest of the bar. If I was rating just the patio area I would give them 3 stars! The only thing that bothers me about the patio is the previously mentioned illogical swings. I thought long and hard about how many stars I should give this place. The plastic pint glasses they use were very off putting, although I wont count that against them because I’ve encountered those same plastic glasses at several bars in town, it must be some sort of Beaumont trend. I cant express enough how I feel it needs to be stopped right away. If I hadn’t had so much trouble ordering and getting my drinks I would give them 3 stars. It really just comes down to the fact that they got my order wrong and I cant justify anything more than two stars in a case like that. I wish them the best of luck and I hope to see some improvements next time I am in town. I would certainly like to give them a higher score as I have nothing but the best of hopes for them!

I stopped by on opening night on Thursday because I really wanted to check out the new place and see what they had done. I was surprised when I walked in. It did not look like the Pacesetter which is a good thing, since I am sure the owners wanted to create something new. The bar had that fresh, new wood smell. I am sure that will wear off with time. I like that they changed up the bar a bit, but I am not sure if I like it that close to the front door. There is a dance floor, some closed off places to sit and open places to sit which is nice. I heard they kept the old Pacesetter shuffle board and refinished it and it was looking nice. I did stepped out on the patio to check it out and it was hopping. I liked the idea of the swings hanging. We ordered a round of drinks at the front bar along with a water. It took a while to get the drinks and they forgot the water. Some of my friends ended up going to the patio to check it out and ordering drinks. They said the outside patio bar seemed to be working more smoothly than the inside and they did not forget the water. I think that this bar is definitely different than the other bars in the strip and will draw a different crowd than John Wayne’s, Fast Eddies and Thirsty’s. I think variety is good too for the area. I understand I came on opening night and I am sure it will take a bit for them to fall into groove and work out any kinks.
