Came in to see what the big deal was about the grilled cheese. You won’t be disappointed friendly service and great food. Had the grilled cheese and the Mac and cheese(unfortunately they were out of the tomato soup) both were excellent! Definitely worth the trip. Limited parking though so walk if you can.

I went with the basic grilled cheese with a side of Mac and cheese. Both were just what I was craving for. Simple and delicious. Can’t go wrong here. Delicious after a night of going out. Great choice for lunch as well. I really liked the dark interiors. Great addition to the LSU dining scene.

The grilled cheeses, especially the Bird Reynolds, are OUTOFTHISWORLD. As are the cheese fries and the smoked tomato basil soup. And if you plan on eating here everyday for the rest of your life, like I do, you can get your grilled cheese on whole grain bread every once and a while so it counts as health food. Boom.

State Bar is maybe a block off campus which is very convenient for college students. I had come in during lunch time and no one was in there so I was a bit confused at first. Our waitress was super sweet. I loved her. I ordered the Marvin Lee which was supposed to be a meatloaf sandwich but it was more of just a cheese burger. It could of used some kind of sauce on it. Still very good though. The fries were amazing. My girlfriend got the Roast Beast and I regret not ordering that. The environment is great though. Everything was super clean. I really appreciated the style of the restaurant:

Enjoyed a cheezus crust and tomato basil soup on my last day of college with a Crown Valley Hard Cider. Despite the«basicness» of my lunch, it was hearty and hit the spot. I couldn’t finish the bowl of soup, and the grilled cheese had the perfect level of crunchiness. Nice little spot on the edge of LSU with reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

The food is pretty good and they have a simple menu that is easy to understand. Considering the items, it’s reasonably priced. The cheese fries were good but more along the lines of potato wedges than French fries. The interior was what I didn’t like the most, dimly lit, lots of blacks and whites, and not a ton of decorations. I will say this is probably the cleanest I’ve ever seen this building. You can’t even recognize that this used to be Louie’s. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the food but, not really blown away. I may just need to try a few more things on their menu. I ordered the Marvin Lee– a bacon, meatloaf(Haha), and cheese sandwich. It was very good with lots of cheese, and the slice of meatloaf was pretty thick. My only complaints with it was that I couldn’t tell that there was bacon on it and the meatloaf was a little bland. That being said, it was still extremely Tasty and I really enjoyed it. All in all, it was a great meal and wasn’t too expensive with good portion size and good flavor.

This place is perfect! The atmosphere is warm and very cool at the same time. I loved the music that was playing. We had lunch there during the week and we were very impressed. The sandwich was cooked to perfection and the flavors were spot on. Our waitress made us aware of some«off menu» items that we totally said yes to. The«Beasty Fries» were so good! We had a sandwich and a side of meat and mac which as I said were cooked to perfection. We will definately return.

Great grilled cheezus, fantastic fries, nice beer menu and interesting bar… only downside is every time I’ve gone– our waitress doesn’t seem to know much about any menu. Sit at the bar– your chances of getting better service are… well… better. This bar is in the old Louie’s by LSU– revamped– they gutted it and blacked it out. The booths are comfortable and they have wonderful gourmet grilled cheezus(is that the plural of cheese?). They have an off menu offering that is their mac and cheese on a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon. That and a Brooklyn lager will make your tummy explode. Fries are big and sort of a curly wedge. can also get this with cheese and bacon with ranch, au jus and jalepenos for fun. I hesitate to swipe at the servers– they are doing their job– but this place uses an ipad to take orders and I don’t think these girls know how to use them. Each time it has been a struggle to order a drink, or get the check– or if asked what beer they have(because the wall where they are listed is far) they do not know– they don’t recommend and my friend had apparently had the mac daddy(mac and chz on grilled chz) before– but trying to order it was too much for our waitress. They are sweet and maybe this place is just new… but there is a disconnect. Bottom line– better service at the bar. Food is very comfort food. Beer is cold and life is good.

With house made gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches that are uniquely named: «Cheesus Crust», «The Bird Reynolds» and«The Roast Beast», you must bookmark(on Unilocal,of course) this new bar & grub neighborhood gem. Oh and I cannot forget about those fries. Their wavy fries was something out-of-this-world! I have never had anything like them before and have taken the art of french fry making to a whole new level. Everything about them was perfect; not too thick or thin and crispy golden fried. If you have a mate, they may get extra jealous because you can actually strike a love affair with those fries! I have had the«Cheesus Crust» and the«The Roast Beast» sandwiches and they have enriched my love for grilled cheese sandwiches. SECRETTIP: I was even told by the waitress that if you want a mac n’ cheese grilled cheese sandwich, you can request to have their mac n’ cheese in a grilled cheese! Now, isn’t that exciting? I can’t forget to happily commend the staff here; they were so courteous and happy to serve — from bartender to waitress! So, hurry up and finish reading this review and get movin’ over to The State Bar. They serve lunch and the kitchen re-opens again at 6:00pm for evening food service. The State Bar is located on State Street by LSU and was formerly Louie’s Café. I love the sleek design and they high-backed bench seating for extra privacy between each table. This is zoned as a bar, so 21+ only can enter.

Cool bar with good music and a yummy grilled cheese. Jess was our server and she was really sweet and attentive. The night we went they had Booty Werk there playing really good hip hop booty music(hence the name.) It was a Friday night and North Gate Fest was going on so I’m not sure if there are certain days when they have Dj’s or if it was because of North Gate Fest. I had the Cheesus Crust add bacon & extra cheese and it was amazing! The atmosphere was cool, the food came out quick and of course the service was great. Luis also came by our table to make sure everything was cool with our order.(which it was.) Cool place to chill, have a few drinks and get some good food.

Awwwwweeeee Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh! Comin’ at you live and direct from the location formerly known as Louie’s is… The State! Come see Shane and Luis and a bevy of bartending beauties for all of your beverage b-needs.(yeah, I know that one was bad) Gourmet Grill Cheese is the name of the game and Luis is the reigning All Star/Pro Bowler/MVP. Come sit in this lovingly restored, well appointed lounge after work, school, the gym, yoga, krav maga, puppeteering class or come enjoy a game on the tv while sipping on libations from the full bar and plentiful beer menu. (Air Horn) You know where it is! It used to be Louie’s, but now it’s not. And it smells WAY better. Get your self on down to The State. You’ll be glad you did. (p.s. parking is sometimes an issue, so confirm with one of the pulchritudinous purveyors of potables if you are parked permissibly. Just sayin)
