Supercuts

Got butchered at Topsham SuperCuts so went to Bath SuperCuts (on my way home) to get fixed. Lady that was there (young and blonde — can’t remember name) was very nice and cut exactly as asked. Will be going to Bath locale from now on. Stay away from Topsham branch.

Before I begin, I’ll say that I didn’t even ever actually have my hair cut or styled by anyone at this location, so if you’re looking for a rating on that I’m sorry I can’t help you. My experience comes entirely from just trying to get basic information.
I called the store three times regarding getting my roots lightened. First to find out if they did it, then realizing I forgot to ask for the price I called back again for that two days later, and then finally to ‘make an appointment’.
Call 1) This was the nicest person I spoke to. I was told yes, they did lighten roots but it would not be perfect, they would need to use the tin foil method. Since I was nervous about touching up my own roots, I decided that was fine. I asked if I needed to make an appointment, and the nice young lady said no, but if I wanted to call ahead to make sure I didn’t have to wait that would be okay.
Call 2) This one was rather rude. When I asked for the price for lightening roots I was told that no, they do not lighten roots in a very sour tone. I quickly tried to turn around and I explained that I knew that they would use foil, I just wanted to know the price. She sounded annoyed the entire time she explained it depended on length that needed lightening, starting at 30 $. I told her that’s cool, I only needed an inch or so done so I’ll budget around 50 or so to be safe. She said that they would need to see my hair to know for sure because it might be thicker than other hair– perfectly understandable, except that it sounded like she knew she made some sort of mistake. She hung up on me shortly after without saying goodbye.
Call 3) I call about thirty minutes before I plan to be at the salon. I’m told quickly that I don’t need an appointment, again in a very curt way that I’m starting to get used to after the second call. The call was rather short but at that point I already knew that if anything ‘fishy’ happened while checking in I was going to leave and do it myself.
When I do arrive, the woman who greeted me was polite enough. The store looked closed and there was even a lock on the door so my boyfriend and I both checked the time instinctively. The door was actually unlocked so I just walked in. The woman was polite and greeted me, she had been hanging up signs and the store was dark. I explained I called for the appointment and asked her to explain how much root would be left because of the foil method.
She said about a quarter of an inch, which isn’t horrible but given that I was putting a light color over it it wouldn’t look very good. I was debating in general when she told me that the prices for this started at 125 $!! One hundred and twenty-​five dollars for a quarter of an inch of root left behind. After being told 30 $ on the phone, I just politely said I would do it myself and left. Picked up a 10 $ lightening treatment at the nearby grocery store.
I understand that working with hair can be a frightening experience, especially when dealing with lightening it. I had a bad experience with bleach which was the reason I wanted to get it done ‘professionally’ this time. I even understand why it would have to be so pricey (though I don’t understand that price when they fully admit to leaving roots behind?). But what really bothers me about this place is that it seems no one is on the same page. Every time I called I was told something different. The price shot way-​way up when I finally went in-​person, and she never even touched my hair to test the thickness of it before giving me the price.
Honestly, it felt like they just didn’t want to lighten my hair at all from the start. I wish they would have just said so instead of giving me the run-​around.
